Welcome to You Are Not Your Thoughts meditation.
In this meditation we will be observing our thoughts from a heightened state of awareness.
Thoughts can take over our mind and what we feel it means to be present,
Aware,
Alive.
Thoughts will lead us into whatever we allow them to.
They can be very excessive and dominating.
They can lead us into temptation or liberate us.
They can come and leave us,
Leaving us out of alignment with the present moment or in a loving state of mind that harmonizes with what we're here for,
Our higher purpose.
Learning how to channel our attention is critical for stress reduction.
If we allow our thoughts to control us,
It can lead us further into despair for feeling like we have no choice.
There is no now to deal with the issues,
No matter how large or small.
But this is not true.
And with this practice,
We simply want to improve our ability to channel our attention,
To use it as a tool for what really matters to us.
Self-willed thinking is a byproduct of the ego.
Thoughts are fueled by attention.
By staying in a state of awareness,
You bring presence into your life.
And thoughts start to lose their power over you.
Simply you start to transition from an egoic state to an intuitive state.
Please have a seat in any comfortable meditative posture.
Aim to achieve a straight,
Activated back.
Relax the body without becoming lazy.
If you wish to lay down,
Allow your spinal column to be comfortable.
Expand your chest with an awareness of your breath.
With hands in a resting,
Open position on your knees,
Or palms facing up if you are lying down,
Gently close your eyes and mouth.
Let's start by taking a nice,
Long,
Deep breath in through the nose and out through the nose.
Starting to focus on your breath.
Let's start to take in some full,
Deep breaths.
Expand your abdominal region with each in-going breath.
Pause for a few moments.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
Make sure you release every bit of air so you can take in a nice,
Long,
Deep breath.
Start to take in some long,
Deep,
Conscious breaths for the next few moments.
Really being conscious of each breath and ensuring you take in full breaths.
Try to take in as much oxygen as possible and make sure you release all the air out on exhalation.
Feel all the tension starting to melt away as you start to let go and embrace this moment.
Feel yourself becoming more and more relaxed with each breath.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
Feel the sensation of your breath cleansing your body and whatever stresses that could bother you or distract you.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
Now allow your natural harmonious breath to take place.
Do not interrupt the flow of breathing.
Just allow your natural rhythmic breath to take place.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
Now,
Mentally scan your body and be aware of any physical sensations.
Just simply observe all sensations without any interruptions.
Just simply observe all sensations without any interpretations.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
Now,
Focus your attention behind your forehead.
This is your mental screen.
This is where you will observe all your thoughts as if you were watching a show.
Thoughts will come and the thoughts will go.
Just simply observe your thoughts.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
It's known,
Thoughts will audition for your attention.
But keep your attention within your body,
Within your breath.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
And slowly release by sucking your navel into your spine.
Thoughts are like clouds.
They appear and they disappear.
Clouds cannot exist without the great blue sky.
Are you the cloud or the blue sky?
Clouds cannot exist without the great blue sky.
Clouds cannot exist independently without awareness.
Clouds cannot exist independently without awareness.
Are you the awareness or your thoughts?
Awareness can exist without thoughts.
Be the awareness.
Observe the awareness.
Say as the awareness and just simply observe without judgements or interpretations.
Feel yourself being the great blue sky.
Its time to let the awareness go.
See the image of the great blue sky.
Feel your power inside you.
Connect with this infinite space within you.
Stay neutral.
Don't attach to anything.
Do not follow your thoughts.
Do not project your attention onto any concepts.
Do not identify with any ideas.
Thoughts will come.
Thoughts will go.
Let them come.
Allow them to pass.
Thoughts have no power over you.
They need your attention to exist.
Just simply observe your thoughts.
Be the witness.
Stay as the awareness.
Thoughts are like raindrops dissolving into the vast ocean.
Are you the raindrops or are you the ocean?
The ocean of consciousness is within you.
Connect with this ocean.
Feel yourself falling into a deep state of relaxation.
With each breath you feel peace and joy.
Allow yourself to sink deeper and deeper into this moment.
Spreading the calmness throughout your entire body.
Keep your attention within.
Embrace the stillness and silence within you.
Allow the peaceful sensations spread throughout your body with each breath.
Now,
Start to focus on your natural breath.
For the next three breaths,
I would like you to hold in your breath for as long as you can and then slowly start to release.
Hold breath for a few seconds.
Allow your natural breath to settle in.
And take this peace and relaxation with you for the rest of your day.
