In the ancient spiritual philosophy of India,

There's a term called Turiya,

Which refers to the fourth state of consciousness.

The first state of consciousness is the waking state we all know,

While the second and third are the dream state and the dreamless sleep.

The fourth state of consciousness is thoughtless awareness.

You can bring true perspective and balance into your life by moving towards this fourth state,

Also known as the gap.

The gap is the silent space between the thoughts.

It is the space where the mind stands still.

No thoughts exist in this space.

Hence it is in the gap that you can experience present moment awareness.

From cultivating present moment awareness,

Inner wisdom and joy arises.

However,

It is the internal chit chatter that spins the delusions that cause suffering.

Inner speech can consume us in a whirlwind of emotions,

Keeping us trapped in an unconscious ego state.

It is the inner speech that causes suffering and constructs fear,

Guilt,

Anxiety and even depression.

In this meditation,

You will learn how to notice the gaps within the space of creation,

Creating a bridge from the limited physical realm into the limitless spiritual realm.

I will start this meditation by reading an ancient Buddhist proverb.

When our minds are full,

We have no space to house the greatness of the infinite source.

Empty your mind and make space for the greatness to shine.

I will now ask you to get comfortable in your position.

Ensure the spinal column is erect.

In a nice straight back.

Hands on your knees or palms facing up if you wish to lay down for this practice.

Let's begin by taking in some easy conscious breaths.

Breathing in through the nose.

Breathing out through the nose.

In through the nose.

Out through the nose.

Notice how you are feeling right now.

What can you feel?

How does your body feel?

With each breath,

Intensify your awareness of your body's feeling.

Quickly tune in to the physical sensations of your body.

Be mindful of your thoughts but keep your attention in your body's feeling.

Feel all the little cells that make up your body.

Surrender to your body's feeling.

Just let go and allow yourself to be in this moment as you are.

Embrace your being.

Now I want you to pay attention to the space between my words.

They,

Buddha,

Once,

Said,

Do,

Not,

Dwell,

In,

They,

Past,

Do,

Not,

Dream,

Of,

They,

Future,

Concentrate.

They,

Mind,

On,

They,

Present,

Do,

Not,

They,

Present,

Moment.

Do not be concerned with the duration of the gaps.

A few seconds is good enough.

Gradually they will lengthen themselves without any effort on your part.

More importantly than their length is to bring them in frequently so that your daily activities and your stream of thinking become interspersed with space.

Now I want you to only notice the gap between your thoughts.

Allow thoughts to rise but your aim is to only focus on the space.

Let the sound of the bell trigger you to stay focused on the space.

Just focus on the space.

Begin your practice.

How did you go?

Did you manage to stay focused?

Or did your thoughts take your attention?

Please repeat this session until you can stay focused on the space throughout the practice.

Now you have the awareness to notice the gaps,

The space of creation.

This awareness is an essential element to the awakening of your inner Buddha.

Discover inner space by creating gaps in the stream of thinking.

Without those gaps your thinking becomes repetitive,

Uninspired,

Devoid of any creative spark,

Which is how it is for most people on the planet.

Feeling the sensation of your body is also another great tool to create space within your being.

Your body is a great channel to access higher frequencies of energy.

For the rest of this practice,

Stay in your body's feeling and be sure to notice the gaps in between your thoughts.

Uniformity,
