So I want to begin by just sharing the inspiration for this practice.

I had a moment this past week where I was feeling really burnt out and I laid down and just wanted to just get some rest and rest my mind,

But it was one of those times where my mind just could not turn off and I just kept thinking about all of the things that I wanted to get done.

Specifically,

I've been working on this meditation course for Insight Timer for the past month and a half and I'm about to go on a couple trips including an extensive silent retreat and I wanted to get all of these things done before that trip and so I was just in my mind thinking about when can I get this thing done,

What day,

And all the stuff that we always deal with,

With to-do's.

And for some reason I just decided to breathe and these five words seemed to come to me and the words were,

It all will get done.

That if I can look at my past track record,

That somehow we've always managed to get it all done.

And a lot of the things that we didn't get done did not really matter in an ultimate sense.

And I realized that a lot of the underlying fear of not getting things done is the underlying fear of a lot of things with a spiritual practice of feeling like if I didn't do it then I'm not going to be good enough or having these expectations of a standard that we hold ourselves to which is totally great,

But sometimes we don't allow ourselves to be back into the moment.

So there is an aspect of understanding that it's all going to be okay,

I am enough right now and then also especially if you've been in a situation,

If you find yourself on a spiritual path,

There might be times in your life where you don't even know what to do and you wish that you could have things to do.

I remember times in my journey where I was jealous of the postman because it felt like they had a purpose and I just was wailing in the unknown,

In the dark night of the soul,

Just not knowing what I needed to do,

Knowing I wanted to serve but still not seeing that path yet.

So there is an appreciation to be busy.

We look down at busyness but there is so much gratitude to have purpose in our lives and what work gives us whether it's our life's calling or whether it's just the job that we're in right now.

There's purpose to our to do.

So this practice is to ease some of that stress and anxiety by showing gratitude to that purpose.

So go ahead and let's begin to just calm down and find our own space.

Begin to just find our body.

So resting the hands where they feel they need to be and just allowing the weight of your body to start to come down.

Using your breath to expand on each inhale and to ground yourself on each exhale.

Allowing the shoulders to release,

Allowing the chest to broaden.

Seeing if you can give yourself the permission to be in your practice today.

Sometimes it's all we need to do to center is just allow ourselves,

Give ourselves permission to be here now.

To be with our breathing.

To be with everything that comes up,

The thoughts,

The distractions.

Knowing that it's all perfect.

It's all part of the dance of our lives,

Of our body.

And there's nothing here to resist.

So come now to that connection into your body,

Connection of your hands,

Connection of your tailbone.

And maybe come to the connection that right now you are meditating with so many others around the world.

And what's beautiful about the Insight Timer community is you get to see these people that you meditate with.

Although it's a very solo practice,

There is a communal aspect to it.

So maybe with the intention to connect with that,

Connect with the other people around the world that are meditating with you right now.

Knowing that there's a good chance that someone out there may be having the same emotions that you are,

May be going through the same fears and anxieties that you are.

The paradox in a practice of meditation is that it is a deep inward solo practice.

But its fruits show us that we are not alone.

We are not alone.

You are not alone.

Let's take a few more breaths here.

Let's take one good communal inhale and let that go.

So I'd like you to come into all of those,

Think about the everyday to-dos that you have.

It might be buying the groceries,

Paying the bills,

Taking kids from here to there,

Running to the post office,

All of those little tasks that we have to get done on a day-to-day basis.

Sometimes we enjoy them,

Sometimes they can stress us out or we may not want to do them.

See if you can bring just a few of those to mind.

We're going to work on showing gratitude for having to do these things.

Gratitude for the fact that there is a grocery store conveniently located from our home.

Gratitude that we have the resources to pay our bills.

Gratitude that the light turns on every time we walk in.

Appreciation that we had the food that allowed us to wash our dishes.

And just breathe here,

Seeing if you can go through any of those other to-do lists you have,

Appreciation that your kids are safe as you take them from place to place.

And we can find that even in the smallest things that we have to do,

There is great purpose behind them.

And as we share the intention of appreciation for them,

We can make each one its own meditation.

We can bring a mindful awareness to those little to-do's that we have to do.

Whenever we move the light of love onto anything,

We can transform it.

Take one more moment thinking of any of the last of those little to-do's that we have to do on a day-to-day basis.

Showing thanks,

Showing appreciation,

The fact that you get to do these,

Not that you have to.

That you get to do them.

It's a blessing.

And let's take a breath in and let that go.

And we're going to move on to,

If it's relevant to you,

All of the to-do's that you have to do for your work life.

All of the emails that you have to write,

The meetings you have to get to,

The projects that you're working on,

The endless list of fires that you might have to put out,

Problems that have to be solved.

Maybe bring to something in mind that might be causing you a lot of anxiety or stress even at this moment.

And see if we can hear as well.

Show appreciation for the fact that we have these things to do.

Because wasn't there a time before you had this job where you wanted a job?

You wanted to have the things to do?

And just breathe and go through any of those things that might be stressing you out.

And if you can transform the have to stress overwhelm of it to a,

Okay,

This is something I can manage because I can show appreciation that this is giving me purpose in my life,

However busy you might be.

You're able to have a different intention behind it.

And go ahead and now think of any other to do's that might be on your list.

Any other things that might be causing you anxiety,

Whether it's work,

Personal.

I'd like you to hold all of them in your mind and notice where in your body you might feel this tendency to have to do these things.

Where in your body do you feel anxiety?

Is it in your head?

Is it in your chest?

Shoulders?

Your neck?

If you can find that place in your body,

Then first we're just going to breathe into it.

And as you breathe,

We're going to just repeat these words to ourselves.

And you're welcome to repeat them out loud as well.

It all will get done.

It all will get done.

So we've always figured it out somehow in the past.

And for those of you that may be wanting to find things to do,

Maybe you're in that moment of a dark night of the soul or you feel lost or maybe you have felt lost but now you're more on purpose.

I'm going to just send a collective wish either to yourselves or to other people that may we all find purpose.

Maybe we all find purpose.

And then let's take a good conscious breath in.

And let that go.

Although we'll probably get all of the things that we have to do done.

But in truth,

If we didn't get it done,

It probably wouldn't matter that much.

Because God forbid,

Something could happen tomorrow that would make every single to do every single thing that you're worried about absolutely meaningless.

You could lose a loved one,

You could get some sort of health diagnosis.

And this may have even happened to you in your past where things were put in perspective but as we get a little bit older,

It tends to maybe even lose that perspective.

All of those tragic aspects of life.

And it's not our fault that we just don't take time to reflect and put things into perspective often until it's too late.

And once our worries and our fears are in perspective,

We realize that deep down that it's the love inside of us that is enough.

We don't have to do anything for this love inside of us.

We don't have to check every box off of our to-do list in order to feel complete.

Because when something tragic happens,

It puts everything in perspective to realize that the love inside of us is enough and that's what matters.

And it's not that we shouldn't have goals or dreams and achievements.

It's that we should do it from remembering our center,

That our love is enough.

So we're going to repeat a few words to ourselves or out loud.

My love is enough.

My love is enough.

I'd like you to continue to repeat just that line to yourself,

My love is enough.

Take a few moments here.

We're going to move on and we're going to let go of the my and just repeat,

Love is enough.

Love is enough.

Love is enough.

Love is enough.

Love is enough.

Moving on and letting go of the enough.

And just repeating,

Love is.

Love is.

Love is on your own.

And finally,

Letting go of the is and just repeating from our core,

From our being,

From our heart,

Just repeating and allowing the word love to resonate through your body.

Love.

Love.

Love.

Love.

Love.

Love.

Love.

Love.

Love.

And go ahead and take a good and conscious breath in and let that go.

And start to come back into your body,

Come back into your room.

And whenever you feel complete,

You can gently bring your eyes back to open and come back to your day.

And may you do get all of those things done that may be stressing or giving you anxiety,

But I hope that you do it with a sense of gratitude and appreciation and also remember that deep down that the love inside of you beyond all of those to-do's is enough.

As always,

So much love to the Insight Timer community.

I'll see you on the next meditation.

Really appreciated and needed this today. Life can feel overwhelming trying to take care of those around me. Having to jjuggling so many tasks but today, not only could I feel like I can get everything done, but I’m not alone in trying to support others. Many blessings have come my way to help those in my life and just as I deeply care and support others- others have done the same for myself. I felt a tremendous amount of gratitude for the blessings in my life and so much love. Thank you for this practice today. I don’t feel alone anymore πŸ’— Boundless Metta to you all πŸ™πŸΌ

Lou is one of my very favorite teachers here. His approach is to meet you wherever you are mentally and emotionally, and guides you gently to a more empowering internal posture. This meditation is a beautiful reminder about gratitude, which I’ve noticed Lou models by thoughtfully responding to pretty much every single review he receives. Thanks, Lou, for sharing your insights and light here. You make a big difference.
