This is the perfect moment to bring your attention to your body.

Take a few breaths and settle yourself into the furniture.

Try to make sure that your body is fully supported so that you can bring all of your attention to this focusing.

First,

Notice how you are in the room right now.

You might notice whether you can feel the movement of the air around you,

The temperature in the room,

Whether it's warm or cool,

The textures of the things that your skin contacts.

Are they rough or soft?

Or perhaps you don't even notice.

Begin at your feet and just notice them.

Bring your attention up your legs and notice any sensations or notice the lack of sensation.

Perhaps everything is perfectly comfortable right now.

Notice your seat and how it's supported by the furniture.

Notice too that the furniture creates the connection between you and the earth beneath you.

Notice your back.

Notice your shoulders.

Notice your arms and hands and especially your fingers.

So sensitive to sensations of any kind.

As you notice your body,

Develop an attitude of appreciation for how wonderful it is,

For how miraculous it is that your body functions with so little attention from you on a daily basis.

You don't have to instruct your blood to flow or your lungs to breathe.

They just do.

Continuing on,

Notice your neck.

Notice your head.

Notice all the muscles in your face that contribute to the wide variety of expressions.

Take a few more breaths and notice the air flowing in,

The small pause between inhalation and exhalation,

And then let the air out.

And again.

And as you inhale the next time,

Let the air flowing into your body draw your attention inside,

Imagining that there is a vast open space inside you where you are going to rest your attention very gently,

Where you're going to wait for whatever wants to come and be with you in this focusing time.

And if it seems right,

You might even offer a gentle invitation,

Such as,

What is there inside me right now that would like my attention?

And wait.

And whatever comes,

Begin your focusing session.

This is a good beginning for a longer meditation on my own. It's also a good break in the day when my body or emotions don't feel right, and I need to just sit and help them find a balance.
