A meditation where we set the mind free to wander, instead of trying to stop or silence it. Perhaps when we just let go and watch the waves rather than trying to control them, we may find we are more likely to settle into the silence, the stillness below the surf. Perhaps you, find yourself in a calmer sea by the end.

Welcome to Fitta Mind.

I am Amy Fitta and I hope you enjoy this meditation.

Finding a comfortable seat,

Lessening the distractions around you as best as possible.

You can do these meditations wherever it feels right to be.

Maybe you're relaxing on the sofa.

Maybe you've found a spot on your favourite meditation cushion or mat.

Wherever you are,

Just allow yourself to be comfortable and relaxed.

Allow your body to soften.

Perhaps your gaze to drop or the eyes to close.

And start that journey inward,

Letting your breath guide you in and in and in.

Today's meditation is inspired by the Radiant Sutras and the verse that goes like this.

Set your mind free to wander anywhere it wants.

Think any thought and follow any wave,

Any surge in any direction.

The instant awareness rests somewhere,

Move on quickly.

The moment a thought springs up,

Abandon it and move on to the next.

And in this way,

Gain entry to the bliss of the silent depths beneath the surf.

I love this meditation proposed in the Radiant Sutras.

To think of the mind like the surface of the sea,

Wave after wave the thoughts come.

Ideas,

Memories,

Thinking about the future.

And it's up to us if we decide to jump on that thought wave and ride it out till the end.

Sometimes that's fun,

But sometimes we get exhausted by surfing all the waves of our mind.

So instead,

Allow yourself to let the mind be free rather than constricting it and trying to think of the sea as a flat and calm surface,

There will always be waves here.

But instead of riding every single one till its end,

Notice when you're getting drawn into the wave of thought and then move on.

Let it go.

Let yourself be free from it taking you all the way to the shore.

Notice the thought and quickly release it,

Move on to the next.

And then in this way,

Eventually the waves themselves start to calm,

Or at least we start to feel more at ease within the waves so that we start to appreciate the silent depths beneath the surf.

So finding your comfortable place,

Starting the mind-body connection with breath.

Let's spend a few moments observing the mind.

Every time you find yourself thinking a thought,

Any time your attention is in one place on one thing,

Quickly release that,

Let it go,

And move on to the next.

And you might just find moments of stillness,

Spontaneous silence,

And finding the bliss that is there.

Be easy with yourself.

This doesn't have to be so serious.

Smile when you realize that you've taken that wave all the way to the shore and just paddle out again.

Enjoy those moments of silence,

Of bliss.

Now keep the time for the next 3 minutes.

Enjoy the silence beneath the surf.

Smile.

Returning back to your breath and just having a little think back through your practice.

Without harsh criticism or judgement,

Just a curiosity of how quickly we were able to recognize our thoughts,

To let them go and move on to the next.

If we were able to experience the space that comes between the thoughts,

Sometimes when we're searching for the next thought,

It just doesn't come.

And in those moments,

There is stillness,

There is silence.

And not from the effort of forcing the mind to be empty,

But from a place of allowing the mind to be free.

Notice how you feel at the end of that practice.

Perhaps you were able to dive into a calmer sea by the end.

And keep practicing.

Meditation isn't meant to be perfect.

It's a playground where we can explore the messy,

Busy,

Chaotic place of our mind safely.

And to be able to find glimpses of peace within that.

Or comfort or calm.

And sometimes silence.

And I hope you enjoyed this practice.

And I hope to practice with you again soon.

Namaste.

Thank you.
