In this meditation, we connect to the feeling body. The feelings are categorized as pleasantness, unpleasantness or neutrality. Notice how a particular feeling is manifested in the physical body as a felt sense, and the tendency of the mind. There may be wanting towards pleasant feelings, resistance to unpleasant feelings, or not interested in neutral feelings. We simply sit and observe what's unfolding from moment to moment.

Welcome,

I'm Fiona.

In our meditation this time,

We'll explore the feeding body.

In mindfulness teachings,

The feelings are categorized as pleasantness,

Unpleasantness,

Or neutrality.

We'll begin by finding our comfortable seat.

You may sit on a chair or a cushion,

Noticing the point of contact between you and the earth.

If you're sitting on a chair,

Feel the feet grounding to the earth.

If you're on a cushion,

Feel the sitting bones ruling down,

The sensation of the feet in contact with the floor,

The weightiness of your legs and the pelvis.

Then bring your awareness to the lower belly.

Feel the belly rising and falling with the in-breath and the out-breath.

Feel the chest expanding and softening with the inhalation and the exhalation.

Allow the back of the neck to be long.

Draw your chin back slightly.

Extend the crown of your head up towards the sky.

And feel the body expanding and contracting with the inhale and the exhale.

Scan through the body to notice any physical sensations,

The sensation of the air brushing your skin,

You may notice warmth or coolness of the air.

You may notice any pressure or hardening in some parts of your body,

Tension or tightness.

You may notice openness,

Lightness,

Softness.

Bring the light of awareness to the sensations.

And noticing if the sensations are pleasant,

Unpleasant or neutral.

Maybe one part of the body you feel the feeling of pleasantness and a different part of the body you notice the feeling of unpleasantness.

Not analyzing the sensations but just come into the feeding body to notice how it feels.

Knowing pleasantness feels like this.

Unpleasantness feels like this.

Neutrality feels like this.

They're not good or bad experience.

Just be in touch with the feeding body.

Then notice if there's a thought moving through the space of the mind.

Not getting involved.

And just noticing the feeling tone of the thought.

Maybe pleasant.

Maybe unpleasant or neutral.

Noticing the underlying mood of the thought.

Again knowing pleasantness feels like this.

Unpleasantness feels like this.

And neutrality feels like this.

Not getting involved in the content,

The concept.

I just come into the feeding body.

And become aware if there's an emotion moving through the space of your body.

And noticing what's here.

If there's no emotion that's okay too.

Just know nothing.

Again noticing if the feeling is pleasant,

Unpleasant or neutral.

Be in touch with the feelings knowing that pleasantness feels like this.

Unpleasantness feels like this.

Neutrality feels like this.

Noticing if there's any resistance to unpleasantness.

Wanting more of pleasantness and not interested in neutrality.

Become aware of the tendency of the mind.

And consciously relax your body,

Relax your face.

Noticing the quality of your breath.

Namaste and thank you.
