Lovingkindness (also called metta) is a practice that helps us to cultivate feelings of love and compassion for ourselves and for others. From several scientific studies, we know that this practice has a quick and strong impact. After about 8 hours practice in total, folks become significantly more compassionate to themselves and to others, including folks they dislike.
