In Finnish folklore, väki is the energy that flows in every living being. It is the mana, the chi, the force. There is väki in the animals, in people and in nature. In this context when a Finnish person was a practitioner of witchcraft/shamanism, they, in fact, worked with the väki and learned how to control it.

Merry meet my fairy selves,

It is Neena,

You are watching Fairy Chamber Channel In Finnish folklore and in Finnish mythology we have a concept called Taki And it literally means the life force,

So it is the same as in Hindu cosmology and spirituality there's the concept of Mana Or in Chinese mythology there's the Shi Or in Star Wars there's the Force Vaki is the essence of life,

The energy,

The Chi that flows in every single living being from plants to animals to humans So when you are practicing witchcraft or doing shamanic spells in Finnish context you are actually working with Vaki You are changing the energy of the Vaki,

You are connecting to the Vaki And there's all kinds of Vaki and animals they have their own Vaki The trees they have their own Vaki,

The plants have their own Vaki People,

Men and women they all have their own Vaki Children have their own Vaki,

Different gods and goddesses they embody some Vaki because they are manifestations of nature In Finnish cosmology and in mythology there's this very strong belief for the four different elements,

Fire,

Earth,

Water and air And they all possess their own Vaki,

So there's the Vaki of the fire,

Dolen Vaki,

Then there's Vaki of the earth,

Man Vaki,

Vaki of the air,

Eel Man Vaki Then there's Vaki of the water,

Veren Vaki From these elements Vaki of the water is considered to be the most powerful because water has such healing powers and it was extremely important for the people in the past The Vaki that different animals possessed that was connected to the element which the animal was connected So for example Vaki of the bear is connected to the Vaki of the forest or Vaki of the earth,

The gas bear lives in the forest Vaki of the fishes and frogs is connected to the water,

So all the,

Oh forget the words,

Watery animals they have very strong Vaki because they are connected to water So if a person made a spell they usually used lots of animal parts from the water animals to make those spells Then in Finnish folk or Vaki of the woman,

That is extremely powerful,

This explains why in Finnish folk tales and in mythology there are lots of very kickass female characters and female karase If we compare the Viking era in Finland to the Viking era in other parts of Scandinavia then even there you can see this strong position of woman Because when a man wanted to ask a woman's hand to marry they asked the permission of the mother and whereas if you think about Vikings in Norway for example Even though there are lots of kickass female karase's in Norse mythology as well and very strong role of woman and woman had very strong role in the society there as well But people basically asked the hand of marriage from the father because father was the head of the household Then in Finland if the father died the oldest son did not become the head of the house,

The mother became the head of the house,

The widow became the head of the house And it is quite interesting because in Finland if a woman,

The older she became and the more,

When the woman became mother she got more respect from the society Then when she became grandmother she got even more respect from the society,

This is not necessarily the case in modern day Finland but that was the thing of the past But I do find it interesting because it is directly connected to the cult of worshipping the mother earth Because the mother earth cult is based on the idea of worshipping grandmother as a supernatural being that is Swiss Maki is a very broad term and you can find it in everything Certain animals possessed very strong maki for example the white deer it had a very strong maki that was directly connected to the forest and the powers of the forest It was believed that if a person ate deer's brains they would sleep very restlessly and they would get these nightmares of these dark characters coming into the trees That these dark characters were the shadows of the forest Even such small animals like the spider had their own maki and ants had their own maki And bees and butterflies had their own maki so it's a very deeply rooted idea within Finnish mythology
