People say that unicorns have existed since the beginning of time.

That they existed before the word became into being.

Others say that unicorns existed over millennia,

But they became extinct.

What is certain is that people all over the world have loved to tell stories about the unicorns.

Cave paintings in Lascaux,

France,

Are some of the most famous cave paintings.

What we know of these images,

They were painted over 15,

000 years ago and they manage to amaze us still today.

Archaeologists and art historians have identified over 600 animal species from these cave paintings.

They include bulls,

Horses,

Bears,

Cattle,

Deer and other familiar animals.

There is one animal that has not been identified.

It looks like a horse,

But it has one single horn in the middle of its forehead.

It is possible that this animal is actually a deer or an antelope,

But because of the perspective we only see one side of it.

Kenyan anthropologist Dr.

Richard Nicky has suggested that the animal is Therianthrope,

Which was a mythical animal to these people who lived in these caves.

Therianthrope was a blended being,

A mythical creature,

Which had elements of several animals.

The inhabitants of the cave most likely lived in a shamanistic society and believed into the spirit world.

English travel writer Bruce Chatwin talks in his book In Patagonia,

Published in 1977,

About a priest called Manuel Jesus Molina,

Who he met.

Molina told him about cave paintings in Argentina,

In the rocks of Lago Posadas.

There is a cave painting which shows a unicorn that lived there for hundreds of years and was hunted by men.

Susa,

In Iran,

Is one of the oldest cities in the world,

Dating back to 5000 years.

Archaeologists have found several paintings of unicorns there.

In the city of Nineveh,

The oldest city of ancient Assyria,

Archaeologists have found unicorn reliefs and sculptures.

They also found carved stones and cylinders depicting unicorns that were used as seals to mark their property.

Unicorns were also part of the belief systems in the ancient world.

For a long time Zoroastrianism was the official religion in the ancient Persia.

Founded over 3500 years ago,

The religious writing refers to an unusual type of donkey which only had three legs and it purified the waters of the sea so that the good animals could drink it.

Was this donkey a unicorn?

This belief that unicorns had the ability to clean contaminated waters has lasted for thousands of years.

The mythology of the ancient Greeks are some of the best-researched myths in the world.

Unicorns rarely appear in Greek mythology,

Unlike other magical horses such as Centaurs and Begasus,

Perhaps because the Greeks believed that unicorn was a real animal and the Greek stories about the unicorns are not recorded as mythology.

Those mentions are found from natural history documents.

2500 years ago,

A Greek historian named Xetias spent a time period traveling in ancient Persia.

Xetias was interested in Middle Eastern and Indian cultures and story traditions.

He wrote a lot about unicorns in his book Indica,

Which was his record about the history of India.

He writes about a creature that had a white body,

Purple head,

Beautiful blue eyes and red,

Black and white horn between 25 and 30 inches long.

According to him,

Unicorn was a wild ass or a donkey,

Which lived in India,

The land of mystery.

He also mentions that the dust filed from this horn is administered in a potion as a protection against deadly drugs.

Once again we come across the unicorn's ability to detect poisons.

Xetias writes that unicorn was one of the strongest creatures ever existed and knight of horse or any other animal could defeat it.

It was incredibly fast and would defend itself with its horn and teeth and it would slay many horses and men.

In the following century,

Famous philosopher Aristotle wrote that only few animals with solid hoof and one horn existed.

Those were the Indian ass that Xetias wrote about and the African oryx.

Several centuries later,

Greek geographer Strabo noted that one-horned horse-like stags lived far away in the Caucasus mountains.

Greek scholar God Ilium wrote a book called On the Nature of Animals that the wild ass roamed in India and this is what he writes.

I have found that wild asses,

As large as horses,

Are to be found in India.

The body of this animal is white except on the head,

Which is red,

While the eyes are azure.

It has a horn on the brow,

About one cubit and half in length,

Which is white at the base,

Crimson at the top and black between.

These variegated horns are used as drinking cups by the Indians.

It is said,

Whoever drinks from this kind of horn is safe from all incurable diseases such as convulsions and the so-called holy disease and they cannot be killed by poison.

Holy disease refers to epilepsy.

Needless to say neither Xetias,

Aristoteli or Elien never actually visited India.

There are many stories told about Alexander the Great,

The greatest Macedonian king and war chief.

Sometimes he was considered to be a god himself.

He rode a magnificent horse called Pukefalus,

But he wasn't an ordinary horse.

He was a unicorn,

Whose name means ox-headed.

Animal had reputation of being untainable.

He was so wild and unpredictable that Alexander's father wanted the beast be killed.

Young Alexander stepped between and he and the unicorn bonded for life.

Classical and medieval manuscripts describe Alexander riding a unicorn.

Modern day historians say that Alexander never actually rode a unicorn and that it was simply a way to portray the god-like qualities of Alexander himself.

Ancient Romans adopted Greek ideas about the unicorn.

They believed that the unicorn actually existed,

In real life,

Not just in myths.

Roman historian Pliny the Elder writes about the unicorn in his book Natural History.

Quote.

It was a wild,

Fierce beast,

Monoceros,

Had a stag's head,

Elephant's feet,

And a boar's tail,

The rest of its body being like of a horse.

It makes a deep,

Blowing noise,

And one black horn,

Two cubits long,

Projects from the middle of its forehead.

This animal,

They say,

Cannot be taken alive.

Pliny also mentions that the unicorn was able to change color.

The deep,

Blowing voice might refer to a rhino.

Perhaps the scholars of the ancient world took a little bit of this and that,

Combining folklore and speculations.

According to Julius Caesar,

If you would like to see a unicorn,

You should travel to what is today known as Germany,

And visit the Herzegovina forest,

Today's Black Forest.

In his book Commentaries on the Gallic Wars,

Caesar talks about the unicorn and other mysterious creatures that man can encounter in these woods.

Based on Caesar's calculations,

The forest stretches along the Danube and Rhine rivers all the way to Transylvania and beyond,

And that nobody really knew where the forest ended.

A scary afterthought.

Centuries later,

In Brothers Grimm fairy tales,

Black Forest is presented as a place for dark forces and magic.

The story goes that unicorns don't live in our world,

They live in the seventh dimension,

And they can move between different dimensions.

The seventh dimension is said to be the place that is magic,

And that is the home of angels,

So the unicorns can bring their magic through different dimensions.

This is why unicorns often symbolize traveling,

Because they can run fast and between the different dimensions.

How to get in touch with the unicorns?

That is the question.

First we need to visualize them and meditate on them.

You can attract unicorns and ask them to appear in your dreams.

One way of doing this is to have different unicorn objects in a place where you can see them.

Generally,

Unicorns are seen as good luck symbols,

But there are many different types of messages that unicorns can bring us.

Here are some examples and different ways you can simplify these messages in your personal life.

In Christianity,

Unicorn represents holiness.

Whenever you see a unicorn,

It is a message from God to appreciate your life,

Because your life is sacred and holy.

Unicorn represents purity,

So the other message according to the Bible is to live a life free from sin.

Unicorns also appear in Hinduism,

And in Hinduism the focus is more on the energy work of the unicorn.

If you feel imbalanced,

Meditating unicorns can help you with cleansing of the soul.

A unicorn can symbolize wealth.

Seeing a symbol of a unicorn in a dream or real life can indicate wealth.

Hanging unicorn symbols and objects in your home spiritually attracts wealth.

This can mean both physical wealth and spiritual wealth.

Because unicorns are seen as one of the ultimate magical beings,

They can help those with clairvoyant talents and people who can foresee things.

Your spiritual foresight will be sharpened.

It is said that the power of the unicorn is a spiritual blessing.

One of the elements of the unicorn is the inner confidence.

You are powerful on the inside.

Let the magic of this magical creature rub off on you.

Be enthusiastic about accomplishing your goals and objectives.

This is what unicorns are known for.

They help people to stay enthusiastic and energetic towards their dreams.

The white unicorn is the symbol of peace,

And the message from the white unicorn is the peace of mind.

If your mind is scattered,

If you are stressed and your mind is all over the place,

That is a good time to connect with the unicorn.

The pressure that you are experiencing right now from the outside world,

They don't need to have to take over your emotional life.

You can go through these pressuring times without losing yourself.

The white color is the symbol of peace.

It is also the color of neutrality.

You can choose when to take a stance.

You can choose when to participate in conflicts.

Are there situations in which you do not need to participate?

And are there other ways to solve difficult situations?

The next message from the unicorn is the one of faith.

When I was younger,

I was a very spiritual being,

And it was something I needed to keep as a secret.

My family was not strict on these things,

And I could,

But I spent my childhood in an area where there were lots of religious fundamentalists,

Who liked to gossip,

And even though I wasn't part of their circles,

You could still get bullied and shut down in that kind of small closed communities.

It took me many years before I could fully embrace my interest in spiritualism and esoteric topics,

And I am sure many people share that same experience.

Unicorn encourages us to embrace our spiritual selves.

Unicorn is known to be the most pure creature in the whole existence,

And unicorns must never be killed.

Their energy is so sacred it is holy.

Especially those of us who are highly sensitive,

We sometimes struggle with the fact that we are highly sensitive because the overload of the stimulations in the environment has a bigger effect on us than the regular folk,

Which leads us needing more time to research ourselves,

To be able to thrive,

And this is okay.

The next message is righteousness,

To do what is right at all times.

This is sometimes difficult.

One of the symbolism of the unicorn horn is that it is a compass,

And it shows the right way.

This message is really about listening to our hearts and doing what is right.

Our world is corrupted,

There is some real evil,

And there is destruction.

There is also lots of beauty,

There are people who do good things,

And there are amazing wonders.

We don't live in a world that is black and white,

But when we get into the rabbit hole and only see bad things,

The unicorn can help us to keep our sanity.

Seeing two unicorns in a dream is a sign of true love.

It means that you and your partner work together in harmony,

And there is true commitment.

Another spiritual meaning of this dream is that it is a blessing from the unicorn.

You are going to face a new refreshing era in your love life.

People who have seen this type of dream are known for sending pictures of unicorns to their partners.

The dream can also seen as the celebration of love.

Unicorn reminds us that we are special.

Sometimes there are times in our lives when we wish nothing else than to blend in.

When I was in elementary school I often felt that I was being mocked because of the way I dressed and the way I did my hair.

I had a group of friends,

We were all somewhat outcast,

And I was always very artistic.

When I became older,

A teenager,

I wanted to blend in.

I didn't want anyone to pay attention to me because I had been bullied for being myself.

Blending into the popularity of the masses kills uniqueness.

Sometimes I wished that I had come to Steiner school or another educational institute that had been more accepting,

But I do feel that I got things back when I went to art school after high school.

One of the things that I did this year was that I sold and gave away all the clothes that I did not wear very often.

This was half of all of my clothes.

And the only things that I left to my closet were the pieces of clothes that I liked.

I can already now feel the difference because every day I get to wear my favorite clothes and it is amazing.

You don't need to go as drastic measures as I have,

But occasionally remind yourself how unique you are and all the wonderful things that you bring to this world and the lives of others around you.

The next important message is self-confidence.

I think we all sometimes struggle with our confidence.

I come from Finland and in Finnish culture,

One of the downsides is that traditionally in our culture,

It is seen as a bad thing if you praise yourself too much.

It is seen as a sign of arrogance.

There is a difference between healthy self-confidence and narcissism.

Narcissist needs other people to reflect their importance.

When you have healthy self-confidence,

You know the things that you are good at and the things that you need to improve.

This is one of the effective means of being emotionally stable.

With confidence,

You can explore new facets of your life and plunge into new projects and chapters.

Trust in your ability to make decisions.

Additionally,

Believe in your talents and skills.

Don't let anybody put you down by their words.

One of the unicorn's messages is to embrace positivity.

Unicorn encourages us to have an optimistic mindset.

Good things happen all the time and we need to pay attention to them.

Unicorns are omens of good luck.

They bring us opportunities,

Sometimes hidden in plain sight.

They attract good things in people's lives.

Whenever unicorn appears in your life,

It is a sign that something good is about to happen.

Unicorns are filled with magical good energy and that same energy is about to come to your life as well.

This is why you should never let the moment with unicorns pass you by.

Zap in every energy from such moments and release it through positive affirmations.

So far we have been mostly discussing about European unicorn legends.

But what about legends in Asia?

According to various Asian myths,

A unicorn was said to be a kind creature who wouldn't kill a fly when strolling unicorns took care of,

Not to step on any flying insects.

When they ran,

Their hooves hardly made contact with the grass.

This may be related to the idea of Ahimsa from the Hindu,

Buddhist and Jain religions,

Where one of the primary tenets is to respect life because every life is holy.

According to Eastern mythology,

The gentlest of all creatures,

The free and untamed unicorn would hide in the ethereal outer realms until the day mankind abandoned its bad ways.

Then and only then would humans see unicorns and be able to taint them.

According to Chinese legend,

A kilin is a hybrid animal with the head of a dragon,

The hooves of a horse,

The tail of an ox and the body of a deer or a tiger.

Like a fish,

It has brilliant green scales all over its body.

According to some depictions,

The kilin possesses clouds for its feet and wings,

Or at the very least the capacity to fly.

Unlike the solitary horn that's produced from the forehead,

Kilin's is not a straight spiral horn.

The horn's kilin curls backwards.

For those who appreciated it,

The kilin was regarded as one of the most beneficial creatures,

Providing shelter,

Solace,

Prosperity and direction.

Like other Asian unicorns,

The kilin stands for goodness.

It also has a kind heart and it doesn't want to hurt any living thing.

The kilin is associated with wisdom,

Harmony,

Purity,

Knowledge,

Tenderness,

And the gift of prophecy.

Unicorns are referred to as cui li or lan in Vietnamese folklore.

The first accounts of these creatures date back to the Duong dynasty 2,

When they served as symbols of wealth.

The kilin was one of the most revered creatures in Vietnamese culture and was depicted in many temples.

Typically,

Kilin or cui lan was shown as having a dragon's head and a horse's body.

More in-depth,

Fanciful depictions claim that it also had a crocodile's mouth,

Dog ears,

A lion's nose,

And a deer's horn.

It might also have a catfish-like moustache and scales covering its body.

It stood for good fortune.

There are two different kinds of unicorns in Japanese mythology,

Kirin and sinyu.

Kind and reserved,

Kirin is a kind being.

Sinyu is more likely to pass judgment.

According to legend,

Sinyu possesses the capacity to recognize truth from lies and the ability to identify liars.

If sinyu judged the wrongdoer guilty,

It would pierce their heart with its sword to cause death.

The history of Kirin-gu is intertwined with that of the former Bugiria kingdom.

The founder of this ancient kingdom,

King Tongluang,

Is said to have ridden a kirin-gul.

It was thought that kirin and kirin-gul resided in caverns on the mountaintops in Vietnam and Korea.

These tales may be connected to the history of the two nations where several ancient civilizations once resided in caves.

Inside some of the caves was a whole ecosystem complete with lakes and fountains.

These mystical animals lived in exquisite settings there.

The ancient kingdom of Persia also had its unicorn tails,

But the Persian Karthagon was a terrifying and fierce warrior unlike its other Asian cousins.

According to some tales,

It had three hooves on each of its four legs,

Six eyes,

And nine mouths.

The Karthagon also had the ability to change its shape at will.

The most remarkable feature was allegedly its pure gold horn.

All the other animals,

With the exception of the ringdoe,

Were said to be intimidated by the Karthagon,

An aggressive beast.

According to legend,

The only thing that could tame the ferocious beast was the ringdoe's singing,

Which Karthagon was particularly fascinated by.

It is probable that rhinos influenced parts of the ferocious Karthagon's mythology,

And the creature's viciousness was probably a reflection of Persian military might.

A kinder translation of the Karthagon describes it as a stag,

Horse,

Antelope,

Or deer with one horn.

This type of Karthagon had a friendly disposition and,

Like a Western unicorn,

Was capable of purifying water by dipping its horn into a stream,

Lake,

Or a pond.

However,

Doing so would cause all females to become pregnant immediately.

In Indian folklore and stories,

Unicorn-like creatures frequently appear.

The Sia is one of the most well-known of them.

The Sia is a creature with a horn growing from its forehead,

Like an antelope or a water buffalo.

An entity named the Siyanganna that resembled a human being with a horn on its forehead is mentioned in the ancient Sanskrit epic Mahabharata.

In the Chinese creation myth,

In the beginning there was an egg that existed in the chaos.

In this egg resided a god-like giant,

Pangu.

Egg broke,

And Pangu came into being.

For the next 18,

000 years,

He spent creating the world with the help of four animals.

These were the dragon,

The phoenix,

The turtles,

And the unicorn.

When Pangu was satisfied,

He passed away,

And each of the animals resided their own realms.

The dragon dove into the ocean,

The turtles roamed over swamps and marshes,

The phoenix flew into the sky,

And the unicorn galloped into the woods.

In this story,

The four animals represent the four Chinese elements,

Water,

Earth,

Fire,

And wood.

In 2697 BC,

The unicorn rode into the past of the Chinese emperor,

Huang Ti,

Also known as the Yellow Emperor.

This unicorn had the body of a horse,

Head of a dragon,

And it was known as Qilin.

Qilin was made of all the colors of the rainbow,

And it radiated bright light.

When it walked,

Its feet made no sound.

It was a peaceful and pacifistic creature,

Who lived up to a thousand years.

And the emperor saw the animal as a sign of good luck.

Huang Ti's time in China was a peaceful time,

And a time of great prosperity.

Unicorn's visit is believed to have inspired China's Golden Age of Peace.

The developments in this society were remarkable.

People began to build their houses from bricks,

And new musical instruments were created.

Legend says that in his final days,

The unicorn turned to the palace,

The emperor got on to its back,

And the Qilin carried Huang Ti to the land of the dead.

In Chinese folklore,

It is believed that unicorn appears when a wise leader is about to be born or passing away.

In 550 B.

C.

,

A Chinese woman named Yen Chen had an encounter with a unicorn.

Yen Chen and her husband wanted to have children,

But without any luck.

After many years,

Yen Chen had decided to visit a holy shrine in the mountains.

Along the way,

She met Qilin,

Who gave her a small jade tablet engraved with the words.

The son of the Essence of Water shall succeed to the Withering Chao,

And he will become a throne as king.

After this encounter,

Woman became pregnant,

And she gave birth a son,

Who she named Kung Fu Tse,

Which means the Essence of Water.

Today we know this man as Kung Fu Tse,

China's most famous philosopher.

Seventy years later,

Kung Fu Tse read that a group of noble men had killed an unusual animal.

He came to see what had happened,

And recognized that this animal was a unicorn.

Heartbroken,

Kung Fu Tse stopped writing,

And no one in the land never saw Qilin again.

Another one-horned animal found from Chinese folklore is Qi.

Qi was believed to possess otherworldly psychic powers.

Qi lived in China during the Han Dynasty,

Around 200 B.

C.

As a pure creature,

Qi was able to see straight into the souls of other beings,

And it often sat in the court trials and worked as a legal counselor.

It would say if the person was innocent or guilty.

It would stab the criminal through the heart with its horn.

Until today,

Qi appears in Chinese character Fa.

In the old times,

The members of the court would wear an image of Qi in their clothing to symbolize their rankings in the courthouse.

In the beginning of the first century,

Chinese man called Fu Xi was sitting by the Yellow River,

And Qi appeared to him.

It emerged from the river before his eyes.

It looked like a horse,

But its body was covered with shimmering scales,

Like a dragon.

Fu Xi noticed symbols on the unicorn's back,

And he drew them to the side with a stick.

The marks became the first symbols of the Chinese written language,

And these symbols are today known as Bagua.

In the beginning of the 13th century,

Great Mongolian conqueror Chinggis Khan decided to take over India.

His army marched towards south for many days,

Causing chaos in every town they came to,

And they were unstoppable,

Or so they thought.

Finally they arrived to India,

But early in the morning when the battle was about to begin,

A small deer-like animal approached Khan.

It had light green skin,

One long single horn in its forehead.

Khan had heard stories about the mystical Kilin,

A peace-loving horned creature.

What could this mean?

Khan looked into the Kilin's bright blue eyes,

And he felt like his father was looking at him.

His father had died 15 years earlier,

But now he heard his father's voice,

He could sense his presence,

And even smell his scent.

For a moment,

Khan contemplated the untouched land before him and said that this is the birthland of the Buddha and many of the Bodhisattvas.

Believing that Kilin brought a message from his father,

Khan told his men to turn back and return back home.

The unicorn managed to rescue India from the conquerors.

The most distinctive feature of a unicorn is its magical spiraling horn,

A symbol of life's energy.

Spiritually,

The horn signifies a spiral movement inward and forward,

There and back again.

It also symbolizes the movement of the soul from the earth to higher realms,

Higher levels of consciousness.

Unicorn can plunge their long spiral horn into poisoned waters and clean them so that the earth's creatures can drink it safely and be nourished.

The purity of the unicorn is so profound,

It cleanses energy of everything it touches.

Purity of the unicorn neutralizes the poisons that inflict the earth itself.

In the Bible,

The creature that contaminates the water is the snake,

Who is an allegory for the devil.

The two occasionally are each other's nemesis in the folklore.

In the medieval times,

Unicorn was a common character in folktales and among aristocracy.

There was a popular myth that the horn of a unicorn could be used to detect poisons.

Several members of the court and politicians were murderers and used poisons during conflicts on their way to power.

The unicorn rose to become a symbol of righteousness and honesty,

And its horn became an antidote against all evil things.

It was easy to poison both wine and water.

People used the magic of the horn to erase the toxins.

Even without the intentional poisoning,

Water was not always safe to drink.

Filled with impurities,

For example,

Typhoid,

That in the public water supply and not only did commoners but also members of the aristocracy,

Like King John of England,

Died from dysentery resulting from drinking contaminated water.

This resulted in the purifying horn of the unicorn becoming a legend,

Which led in the royal classes to purchase cups supposedly made of unicorn horns to protect themselves from poisoning.

All kinds of protective amulets were used to keep people safe during the Renaissance era.

Serpentine,

Or snake stone,

Was a dark green stone with black specks.

It was used to protect against poisons and was used in making tableware.

This is something that was written about the Dresden court.

The constant fear of poisoning gave rise to strict ceremonial rules for courtly banquets.

The cup-bearer or court official pre-cutting the meat touched the foot with a piece of her unicorn horn,

Which was actually a norval tusk,

And viper's tongue,

Actually a purgified shark's teeth,

Or a serpentine,

To assert that the food was eatable.

In Germany,

Red coral had its place in the tables.

Believed to be sprouted from the blood of Medusa,

When the Greek hero Perseus beheaded Coral branches were mounted into drinking cups.

They'd be plunged into beverages to eliminate toxins.

These cups were crafted into a shape of a sea unicorn,

With the head and the torso of a unicorn and vessel made from a pearly and a curly shell.

In 332,

The queen Amanerinas of Ethiopia supposedly sent a unicorn to Alexander the Great as a gift.

This particular unicorn had a precious ruby in the base of its spiraling horn.

The medieval alchemist saw a connection between the ruby and the unicorn's horn.

He believed that the horn could purify everything it touched,

And the gem could be found from the unicorn's forehead,

At the base of its horn.

One of the fathers of our modern psychology,

Carl Gustav Jung,

Saw symbolism in the unicorn horn.

According to Jung,

Unicorn's horn symbolizes both feminine and masculine powers.

The shape of the horn is phallistic,

Whereas an upside-down horn is a cup,

And it symbolizes the womb.

In Christianity,

The cup symbolizes the sacrament of communion,

Where the cup holds the wine,

And wine represents the blood of Christ that purifies sins.

Not only does unicorn's horn purifies the water,

It also has the power to create water.

One story tells us that the unicorn plunged its horn to a rock,

And from that rock sprang the waters of life.

And wherever these waters flow,

Everything will bloom with vitality and fruitfulness,

And all man and animals are nourished.

Deep underneath the earth,

Under rocks and caves,

Sleeps a dragon,

Who is often portrayed as the unicorn's nemesis.

Dragon lies where the underwater currents run deep,

Waiting for the unicorn to wake him.

In this case,

Unicorn symbolizes life,

And dragon symbolizes death.

But dragon being a serpent can also symbolize the water.

Stories about the unicorns have been told for thousands of years.

Despite of this,

No one has ever been able to catch one.

There is no DNA evidence to prove that unicorns exist.

Unicorns live in the spirit world,

And can only occasionally enter the human realm.

There are stories which say that if you captivate the unicorn and cut away its horn,

The unicorn dies.

Unicorn represents independence and freedom,

And these are rare and unique qualities.

Most famous image of a unicorn is a renaissance tapestry called The Unicorn in Captivity.

This tapestry nowadays hangs in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Unicorn is surrounded by fence.

Its golden color is attached to a tree.

In some legends,

Unicorn is immortal.

Some people believe that mythical creatures such as fairies and unicorns live forever because their bodies lack permanent substance.

It is speculated that a unicorn can live hundreds and thousands of years unless someone traps it and kills it.

It is unicorn's purity that allows it to live forever.

Many stories tell that unicorn has life-saving energy over other beings.

With the touch of its horn,

It can raise the dead and cure illnesses.

In the story,

The king refuses to kill the unicorn because unicorn presents the powers of good,

And there is belief that unicorn's blood contains magical healing properties,

Even immortality.

In Harry Potter books,

Evil Lord Voldemort is almost resurrected with the blood of a unicorn.

The immortality of unicorn's blood is another parallel between the unicorn myth and Christ,

Who were told,

Heal the sick and raise the dead.

When it comes to most well-known magical creatures like dragons,

Fairies,

And mermaids,

Unicorn is one being who is not fearsome or scary.

Most mythical creatures have a dark side and can be dangerous when they are being crossed,

But not unicorns.

Despite of its beautiful,

Magnificent horn,

The unicorn does not harm humans or anything that lives.

It doesn't injure others.

Instead,

Unicorns only serve to do good.

A little is known about the domestic lives of unicorns.

It is said that,

Very much like horses,

They prefer to live in small groups.

Sometimes an older unicorn works as a leader of the group,

Offering their wisdom and guides the young ones.

Being harmonious creatures,

They prefer to live in peace and quiet and avoid conflicts.

What do unicorns eat?

Folklore tells us,

Like horses and deer,

Most unicorns eat moss and grass.

An old English nursery rhyme says that they eat white bread,

But would really rather have plum cake.

French naturalist Alfred de Vasseville believed that unicorns ate rabbits and squirrels,

Which they speared with their sharp horns.

Folklore also tells us that mythical creatures don't need any food.

They gain nourishment and energy from the sunlight,

Which they absorb into their bodies with their horn.

What about reproduction of the unicorns?

Some sources tell us that unicorns mature between ages of 30 and 40,

When it is time to start a family of their own.

Unicorns leave their own pack,

Go to find their own adventure,

In hopes to find a partner.

Like often in nature,

During this time,

The males can be more aggressive than usual and more eager to challenge others.

Unicorns don't rush into relationships.

When they find a suitable partner,

They take their time to get to know one another,

Because,

Like swans,

They stay together for the rest of their lives.

The female is pregnant about two and a half years.

Like wild deer and baby antelopes,

The baby unicorns can stand and run pretty soon after they are born.

There is another theory,

Once again connected to the Christian mythology,

That unicorns are born from a virgin.

According to this version,

Unicorns don't mate like other animals,

And females can't conceive or give birth.

In these stories,

Unicorns are born from clouds and sun rays.

In African Santeria religion,

The goddess Ava dreams new unicorns into being.

An unadult unicorn couple adopts these magically born unicorns to themselves and raise them as their own.

Unicorns are solitary creatures,

And it is rare to spot them.

They prefer remote areas.

In Tibet,

There are stories that unicorns reside in the magical land of Shangri-La.

Some stories tell that,

Back in the days,

When there was more wilderness,

There was more unicorns to be seen.

This is an advice from Matthew Weber.

He wants to guide us how to see unicorns.

Quote,

Go somewhere wild and remote,

A forest,

A desert,

Moorland or a prairie.

Pick nothing that might distract you.

Leave behind the cell phone and the GPS.

Wear casual,

Comfortable clothes,

No leather or fur.

Wear no scent but your own.

Let your thoughts be your own.

Stand and listen,

And let the atmosphere permit you.

Forget the trivial concerns of human existence,

And feel what matters.

The life around you,

The movement of the air,

The scent of the ground.

Don't let nature humble you,

Acknowledge that you are part of it,

And take pride in that belonging.

Feel.

Believe.

In such a way might you sense the presence of a unicorn,

A presence that once bold and timid,

Ancient and youthful,

Full of wisdom and name as a child,

Seldom seen and never heard.

He will nuzzle at your soul.

Don't seek to touch him or possess him.

Acknowledge that you have been noticed by a wonder.
