Hi there,
Eliza here to offer a practice of the four elements.
So I want to attribute the inspiration for this inner journey or guided art practice to EMDR,
Which is where I recently learned about it.
Although in many of the practices which I study and facilitate definitely utilize the power and energies of these four elements,
Earth,
Air,
Water,
And fire.
So to begin this practice,
It's a little bit of an experiment.
So you can use your imagination to go inward or you could have some art materials available.
I really love to use these watercolor crayons,
But markers,
Crayons,
Anything simple that you have available you can use for this practice.
So what I invite you to do is to just begin to find some comfort wherever you are.
So again,
Anytime you practice with me,
You can lay down,
Sit up,
Sit in a chair,
On a couch,
Wherever it is that you choose to do your practice.
You're making a choice over when and where you practice.
So just finding your place and if you want to have some art materials there you can.
And what I invite you to do is just see if there's any way that you can move your body in a way to increase support and comfort for yourself.
So I always like to do some movement and try to listen to my body.
I'm always trying to practice listening to my body and moving in a way that supports me.
Your body is always speaking to you and I'm always trying to practice listening to my body.
And I know sometimes it's really challenging to listen to this wisdom that our body is always talking to us.
And I invite the awareness that when we listen to our bodies,
Then that gives our bodies an outlet to support us and to increase our connection with our inner wisdom that's always alive.
And when we don't listen to our bodies,
When we don't make that time,
Our bodies will make us listen one way or another.
So creating this intentional space,
Even for just five minutes,
For you to practice listening.
And I invite you in your journey,
In your practice,
To notice the way that when you do these little practices,
It does create more space for you to be in your healing journey,
To support you in your wellness journey.
Now I invite you either on your paper or in your imagination to create a container for these elements that we're going to explore today.
So a lot of times I like to use a circle but any shape that you would like to use.
So just creating a shape in your imagination or on your paper,
A shape that can contain our exploration for today.
And then within that shape,
I invite you to draw a ground line.
So if you're practicing with drawing implements or if you're practicing with your imagination,
Just imagine a ground line there before you.
And really feel that ground,
You know,
What color it is and what shape it is.
Is it a flat line separating the sky from the earth?
Is it,
You know,
Rough?
What's the texture?
What's the color?
And then somewhere in that ground,
You know,
I really invite you to see if you can connect with the power of this ground and this earth energy.
Maybe if you're exploring this visually on paper,
You can really just look at the ground that you've created or you can continue to work on putting just lines,
Shapes,
Colors into this space.
And next I invite you to either imagine or create on your paper a seed,
A seed in the earth.
What does this seed look like?
It could just be a dot.
And then once you have your seed planted in the earth,
I invite you to imagine what this seed needs for life to grow and either draw or imagine that in your picture.
Maybe it is the element of water that it needs.
Maybe it's the element of fire,
The sun.
And then once you have imagined or drawn that in your image,
What I invite you to do is to use the fire of your imagination to grow this seed up.
So what is the plant that the seed wants to become?
And to either draw that on your paper or in your imagination.
And then while you're doing this,
While you're creating your image in your mind or on your paper,
I invite you to connect with the breath.
And maybe there is a way that the breath wants to show up in this image that you're either physically creating or creating in your mind,
In your imagination.
Maybe you could imagine,
You know,
What is the in-breath and the out-breath?
What is the inhale and the exhale?
How does that show up in this image?
And maybe there's a way that this breath or this air element,
This oxygen element can also feed your plant in your seed.
So just imagine,
Maybe you even imagine that plant breathing while you're also breathing your own body.
And just inviting an exploration of where is the beginning of the inhale and the beginning of the exhale or the end of the inhale and the end of the exhale.
And I invite you to either in your imagination or on the paper where you're creating this image to put anything in the sky,
In the air element that you want,
Or that feels that it needs to be there,
Or that even just comes to you to be there.
Trusting your imagination and your intuition,
Practicing trusting those things.
And seeing if there are any other elements that want to come and support your image,
Specifically any fire elements or any water elements.
And where do those go in the image that you're creating on the paper or in your mind's eye?
Maybe there's a way that you can feel those elements alive in your body.
Where do you notice the water elements?
Maybe you could feel some moisture in your mouth,
Or if you have a drink nearby,
You could take a drink.
Where do you feel the fire elements?
Seeing if you can notice a warmth or a heat wash over your body,
The power of your imagination.
Where do you feel the air element?
Maybe that's through the breath,
Pulling air into your body and exhaling.
Maybe it's the air all around your body.
Maybe you can sense the way the air works with the fire of your imagination and your mental,
In your mind.
Just seeing where do you notice air,
Air element in your body or around your body?
And where do you feel the earth element?
Under your feet,
Can you feel the earth in your blood and your bones,
In the physicality of your body?
Can you feel this earth energy,
This earth element?
And I invite you to see if you can feel the power and support of all these elements that you're made of and that are around you.
And I invite you to offer gratitude to these elements and the way they support you,
And the way they showed up today,
Either in your physical image or in your mental image that you created.
And know that you can call upon these elements whenever you might need them in your healing work.
And you might want to create images of each of these elements to support you and remind you of this inner journey,
This exploration and honoring of these elements.
And if you've had your eyes closed,
You can open them.
If you've drawn an image,
You can,
I invite you just to look at your image or look around the room and notice,
Maybe you notice the way that these elements live in your space.
So noticing any elements or representations of water,
Air,
Fire,
And earth.
And to end our practice today,
I just invite you to cross your arms and see if you can just hug yourself,
Give yourself a little hug.
And if crossing your arms isn't accessible,
Then I invite you just in some ways to use your body as a tool to to use your body to just support.
So maybe your hands could come to your thighs and press,
Or you could cross your hands over your heart.
Whatever is accessible to you to kind of just give your body a little extra hug or tenderness or care while we end this practice today.
And as always,
I thank you for practicing with me and wish you goodness in your healing journey.
