So let's wind down before we rest,

Starting by making yourself really comfortable wherever you're lying,

Maybe there's some small adjustments you can make to help yourself feel a little more ease in your body right now,

It might be as we come to rest that the mind is quite busy or full,

Or as best you can just gently setting aside any projects or concerns,

Any thoughts about the day so far,

Trusting that you can pick those up tomorrow and they'll still be there,

But for now giving your body and mind space to rest,

To be still,

We might begin by taking a few slightly deeper fuller breaths,

Breathing deep into the belly,

Then letting a long slow exhalation out,

And if that felt good let's try that again,

Breathing in deeply and letting it all go,

Or gently scan through the body just seeing if there's any easy way we can begin to soften,

To release,

Beginning by bringing awareness to the muscles in the face,

We might gently soften the forehead,

Maybe inviting the eyes to rest more fully in their sockets,

Perhaps just noticing that space between the two eyebrows,

Inviting that space to open,

To soften,

If you're holding any tension in the jaw maybe just inviting the jaw to soften,

Maybe allowing the teeth to part very slightly and then float back closed,

Gently allowing the shoulders to roll back to release,

Maybe simply softening around any lingering tightness or tension in the shoulders,

Allowing it to be there,

We can let the hands open,

Release,

Letting the back of the body sink into the surface beneath it,

Gradually releasing the upper back,

Middle back,

Lower back,

Letting the hips sink into the surface beneath them,

Releasing any tension in the legs,

Allowing the legs to be still,

Inviting the whole body to rest and be still in this moment,

Nowhere to go,

Nothing to do,

Just this precious moment to be still,

To allow the body and mind to rest.
