A warm welcome to you.
I am delighted to be here with you today to support you in feeling a little more gratitude towards your body and all it does for you each day.
So often we move through our days with a sense of negativity towards our bodies.
We focus on our aches and pains,
On things we can no longer do or achieve,
Or we are critical of our physical appearance,
Wishing we were more toned,
More youthful,
More perfect.
The reality is,
Every day our bodies perform thousands of complex tasks that enable us to live a life with movement,
Purpose,
Freedom and joy.
During this meditation we shall swap self-criticism for a sense of gratitude for the wonder of our bodies.
So beginning now by settling into a comfortable position.
This may be seated or lying down,
Whatever feels good for you today.
And just noticing if you could be 10% more comfortable,
Making any final adjustments you need.
And moving your attention now to your breath,
This gentle life force that exists within us all.
No need to change your breath,
Just cultivating a sense of curiosity here.
Noticing now the air as it enters your nose.
Noticing now the air as it leaves your mouth.
Noticing the gentle rise and fall of your chest as you breathe.
Noticing the soft expanse of your belly as the air flows in and out.
Beginning now to deepen this sense of curiosity and appreciation for the way so many parts of your body come together in this shared act of breath.
Noticing also how your breath can be both complex and simple at the same time.
Sitting here in the gentle ebb and flow of your breath for a moment or two.
Just as the tide washes over the sand,
Your breath washes over you.
Noticing now that your body breathes on its own,
That you are being breathed.
Surrendering a little more now into this idea of being breathed.
Can you offer your breath a smile of gratitude for the job it performs day in,
Day out?
Sustaining life by providing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from your body.
With each breath we are offered the gift of life.
Resting here in the safety of your breath.
Sitting here in a sense of gratitude.
Gently bringing your awareness now to your eyes.
Can you soften a little across your eyes?
And within this softening can you feel grateful?
Your eyes that allow you to see colors,
Faces of your friends and family,
Flowers in bloom,
Sunsets,
The glimmer of the moon and the twinkle of stars.
Your eyes that offer you the gift of sight,
That bring a sense of detail,
Vibrancy and color to your world.
Focusing now on your ears,
Offering the sound of music,
The familiar voices of your family and friends,
The songs of birds,
The rustle of the wind,
The gentle lap of a tide.
Bringing your awareness to your nose that smells the aromas from your kitchen,
Salty air by the beach,
Freshly cut grass.
What about your lips and mouth that taste,
Speak and kiss?
That communicate your ideas,
Desires and hopes?
Moving your attention now to your entire face,
This face that sees,
Hears,
Expresses,
Laughs and connects.
Your face that greets your family and friends with a sense of warmth and love.
Moving your attention now to your heart and the space around it.
As your heart beats it is pumping blood with oxygen and nutrients all around your body.
Perhaps you can feel your heart beating.
Is it faint or strong?
Fast or slow?
Can you offer your heart a few deep grateful breaths now?
Breathing in this sense of gratitude for your heart's ability to love,
To experience joy,
To light and happiness,
For your heart's ability to break and also to heal.
For its infinite capacity to feel and enrich the human experience.
This heart that is home to your sense of compassion.
This heart that forgives.
This heart that intimately connects you to those you love,
To your inner world,
To a deep sense of peace.
Resting here in the presence of your heart for a moment or two.
Focusing any sense of warmth,
Of relaxation or openness that may emerge as you connect with your heart in this way.
Moving your awareness now to your stomach and your gut.
Taking a few nice deep grateful breaths into this space now.
And noticing any sense of softening here.
Feeling grateful for our body's ability to digest food and to absorb vital nutrients.
Feeling grateful for the intelligence of our gut.
For the way it can alert us to danger by tightening.
For the way it can house our worry and our fear.
Feeling grateful also for its ability to hold our sense of excitement and our joy.
Bringing your awareness now to your hands that hold and touch and open and close.
Resting here in the presence of your hands.
Feeling the inner sensations of your hands,
Perhaps tingling or warmth.
Moving now to your arms and shoulders that lift,
Carry and embrace.
That hold your tension and your strength.
Focusing your awareness now on your legs and your feet.
That allow you to walk and run.
To travel,
To explore,
To follow your dreams.
And now with a gentle touch bringing your awareness to your mind.
That wants to learn,
To grow,
To teach.
Your mind that solves problems.
That organizes,
That plans,
That is creative.
Your mind that puts the whispers of your heart into words.
Your mind that gives language to your deepest desires.
Moving your awareness now a little deeper.
To your organs,
Tissues,
Ligaments and cells.
To your body's ability to grow,
Regenerate and to heal.
Resting here in the miracle of your body for a moment or two.
Bring your whole self a few deep grateful and nurturing breaths.
If this sense of gratitude had a color,
What would it be?
Breathing in this color.
Breathing out this color.
Feeling your entire body is surrounded by this color now.
This color is holding you.
You are being held.
And from this deep place of gratitude returning our awareness once more to our breath.
And as we rest in this sense of breathing in and breathing out,
We are reminded of our ability to invite in and to let go.
Our ability to observe and be part of this gentle dance.
This dance of welcoming and of letting go.
Focusing your awareness now on your exhale,
Allowing your exhale to be long and smooth.
And within this physical act of letting go I ask you warm heartedly,
Is there something you would like to let go of here in this safe space you have created?
This space of relaxation,
Surrender and gratitude.
Perhaps a limiting belief,
An old hurt,
A self-critical thought.
And as you exhale,
Imagining this presence leaving your body,
Mind and heart.
And from within this act of letting go we have cultivated a sense of space,
An opening.
And so I ask you,
What would you like to invite in?
As you inhale,
Imagining this presence moving deep into your body,
Mind and heart.
When you are ready,
Slowly bringing your awareness back to your fingers and toes.
Offering your amazing body a stretch now.
And gently opening your eyes.
As you move through your day and you notice the colour that represents gratitude for you.
Perhaps you can pause for a moment and once again be reminded of how amazing you are.
