Welcome.

On my last couple meditations I've been sharing a little bit about my previous silent meditation retreat.

And the last practice I shared the first insight that came to me that I felt my heart open.

I had a little burst of tears that came.

And that was the insight that this too can be here.

And you can find that practice here on Insight Timer.

And this week I'm going to share with you a practice that is inspired by the second insight that came.

I first want to go back to the first and reading all of your comments on the practice of this too can be here.

It's been so incredibly rewarding to see how useful that practice has been and how it's been able to cause this shift.

And it's really helped me to develop this compassion for all of you.

I know not all of you comment,

But it makes me understand that we are all going through these things together.

We all have these difficult emotions.

We all have the tendency to run away or resist.

And seeing the shift when we allow our experience to be what it is and open our hearts to it rather than shutting it out has been really just a blessing for me to witness.

So I thank you for those of you that engage.

This week,

This practice is from later on in that same day where I had the first insight come.

It wasn't really sparked on by a thought or an emotion.

I don't really know how it came,

But it was just this inner knowing.

And then these words formulated and it was just this knowing that there is nothing wrong with me.

And I know that might not land with you as it landed with me five days into a silent meditation retreat.

But it was really this understanding that so much of our time is spent thinking that there's something wrong.

So much of our time is spent,

Oh my gosh,

Did I say the right thing to that person?

Am I going to live up to this expectation?

Am I going to do the right thing?

And we have this sense of not being good enough or being unworthy like we have to fix what's wrong.

And coming into the opposite of that,

What if we started from the sense of,

No,

There is nothing wrong with me.

And I really believe that that is the truth of who we are and that our journey,

Our practice is to come more into that experience where that is our reality.

So we have all of these clouds that are blocking us from understanding the perfectness of who we are.

The perfectly imperfect being on the outside and the truly divine,

Perfect soul,

Spirit,

Being that is within.

So this practice is going to help us open to that.

So go ahead and find a seat if you're not seated or just taking your movements that you just naturally start to take whenever you start to settle in into a meditative practice.

Lengthening and opening where it needs to be and then releasing and grounding and centering the body where it feels like it needs.

Connecting the physical body into your present moment experience of where you are,

Wherever room this practice today finds you in.

Maybe just getting a sense of your physical body connected to your chair,

To your cushion,

To your bed.

And then also get a sense to the emotional body that is connected to everything that's happening around you.

And the sense awareness of different sounds,

Different feelings that might move from outside the room or come into your own awareness.

So settling in today with really more of an open awareness and not focused on one thing.

Still allowing the body to naturally start to come into its setting and inviting sounds,

Smells,

Feelings to just come in if they please.

We're going to,

In the beginning of our practice,

Do a similar one to what we did last week.

For those of you who are just listening to this,

It's really just a core foundational mindfulness practice.

So let's first find a centering point to our breath.

So you might feel the breath move in and out through your nose.

And we just take a couple breaths noticing that awareness and noticing how that makes you feel.

And then moving that down to noticing the breath at the chest area.

Feeling the rise and the fall of the body.

And then moving down into the abdomen.

And noticing how the breath feels through your abdomen.

And then just picking one of those that feels right for you this morning or this evening whenever you're listening to this.

Either the nose,

The chest,

The belly,

And allow that to be your connection point to this moment.

Allow that to guide you.

And then the practice we did last week was one that was inspired from a teacher that was on the retreat about being the door person.

Meaning that we allow the visitors of our thoughts to come in.

We notice that they're there.

And then like a door person,

We allow the thought in and let the thought go and do whatever that thought's going to do somewhere down the road.

We don't go and hang out with the thought.

Go to the bar,

Go to the restaurant.

Although sometimes we do and we get lost in our train of thoughts.

And when we realize that we were taking a break from our door person duty,

We bring it back into that anchored breath of the nose,

The chest,

Or the belly.

And I really did that practice for most of the time that I was on retreat.

Let's just take a minute or so and notice what the mind does.

Really this is a study of our minds.

And what beautiful intention that you're doing to give some time to actually study the working of this sense of the mind that loves to think and move.

And if you notice the thought come in,

Just be the door person and come back to your centered breath.

And if there is a thought or an emotion that comes up that you initially want to resist or makes you feel a certain way,

Maybe also just acknowledging that and just inviting it in,

Not needing it to go away.

This is taking a little bit of again that last practice of knowing that through our practice we can be with everything that comes into our experience.

But we don't have to resist.

We just have to notice where our breath is and allow.

And let's take a good conscious breath in together and let that go.

So much of our life is lost in these stories of not being good enough,

This constant need to prove ourselves or this fear that we didn't live up to expectations in some way.

But what if that just wasn't the case?

Moving on to a little bit of a visualization.

I'd like you to just imagine yourself in a room.

In your mind's eyes,

Just bring to mind a picture of a room.

It could be any room.

It may even be the room that you're in,

But you're just seeing it through your mind's eye.

And in this room is seated right in the center,

A cushion or a chair,

Whatever you like to sit and practice on.

I'd like you to go over and just sit in that chair or cushion just how you're sitting right now.

And continue to find that anchoring breath of the nose and the chest and the abdomen that doesn't leave us.

And across from you,

I'd like you to imagine that in this room with you is seated this little baby.

A beautiful little baby.

This could be a baby that you know.

It could be maybe if you have a grandchild,

You can remember when they were a little child.

It could be your own child when they were that young.

Or it just can be any image or thought of what a baby is when it comes to mind.

They might be in their cradle.

They might be just on another cushion wrapped up nice and cuddly.

And just first notice if you feel a little lighter,

We have this sense of this natural smile,

This natural joy that comes to us whenever we find ourselves coming across a baby.

And then notice if that's there and also if it's not there,

It's completely normal.

We have different experiences with a child like this.

Regardless of how this makes us feel,

Would you ever say to this baby that they are not good enough?

That there is something wrong with them?

Probably not.

You can give this baby love.

The love that you see emanating back out at you.

So why don't we just do that silently?

We can do it in her mind.

You're welcome to say these out loud in the room.

Just giving this baby some of that love that you would give them.

You are so loved.

Your light shines brighter and you can see.

You are fulfilled at your core.

Your presence in this world is enough.

There is nothing wrong with you.

Take another moment here.

I'd like you to understand that this was once you.

You were just like this child,

This new life.

You were pure,

Innocent,

Radiant.

And there was a visceral knowing that there was nothing wrong.

Because there's nothing that could be.

And we tend to forget where we came from.

We tend to forget that this life shapes us and programs us into all these things and burdens us with these challenging emotions.

All for our highest growth,

Yes.

But we must remember that we still have that light no matter how old we get.

So I'd like you now to see yourself in front of you as a child.

You may see yourself as a baby.

You may see yourself as a young child,

5,

6,

7,

8.

Any age that feels right for you right now.

Maybe it's a teenager.

There's some age where you can still sense that innocent nature.

Just noticing how seeing a younger version of yourself makes you feel.

And maybe asking that same question.

Would you say that there was something wrong?

Would you tell this younger version of you that they're not good enough?

Maybe we,

Parts of us would want to.

That might still be some of our programming.

Maybe we were told that at a young age and we believed it.

But from this vantage point,

Let's give our old selves that same love.

Repeating silently or out loud.

You are so loved.

Your light shines brighter than you can see.

You are fulfilled at your core.

Your presence in this world is enough.

There is nothing wrong with you.

We are still that innocent spirit,

That innocent child deep inside.

As one teacher on my retreat said,

We come by it all so honestly.

So our work is truly about giving ourselves some compassion.

So that we may understand and remember who we really are.

I want you to bring this child,

This baby,

This version of you back inside of your body.

Still inside of the room,

Feeling that young spirit move into this body right here.

And giving ourselves that love.

That understanding of who we are.

I am so loved.

My light shines brighter than I can see.

I am fulfilled at my core.

My presence in this world is enough.

There is nothing wrong with me.

There is nothing wrong with me.

Let's take a breath.

And let that go.

As we come deeper into understanding the perfectness of who we are,

It may not be easy.

We may still have some work to truly believe that or to embody that.

But as we do,

We start to see and feel connected to all of those around us.

So I'd like us to do one more affirmation and intention with this.

And you're welcome to come out of your room,

Come back into your body and the room you're in.

And we're going to use the pronoun we and like us to feel the sense that maybe everyone in this community of Insight Timer,

Everyone in our immediate world that we know and that we interact with,

Maybe today that we will see.

And just have the feeling that maybe we're all saying this together.

That there's someone else listening to this when you are and you are sharing this space.

And we're going to go even deeper in an unconscious level.

Maybe we are all knowing this and saying this from our deepest core.

We are so loved.

Our light shines brighter than we can see.

We are fulfilled at our core.

Our presence in this world is enough.

There is nothing wrong with us.

And slowly start to come back into your physical environment.

Sensing your body,

Where it's at,

What's going on in the room.

And then when you feel ready,

You can gently begin to open your eyes and come back into your space.

I hope you take this understanding and you may not again fully embody that there's nothing wrong with you right now.

But I hope maybe that we can work to that understanding that there's nothing that you need to fix.

There's nothing that you need to add on.

This is an inside game.

We know this.

And it's just more about coming to know that true self deeper and deeper.

And as always,

I am so grateful to be a guide that can somehow,

Hopefully,

Move you just a little bit closer in that direction.

As always,

I love engaging with you all.

So please always feel free to share how these practices connect.

And I'll see you next time.

Namaste.

So touching. I was in tears. I connected with the child I was and the child still in me. I was always loved as a child but haven’t always loved myself as an adult. Thank you.

Thank you Lou. It really resounded that we don't have to add to or change ourselves but just go inside to get to know who we really are. That feels so loving and caring to me.

Thank you so much! This session felt half meditation half therapy! It was such a beautiful experience and exactly what I didn’t know I needed. I get comfort in knowing that this feeling of being defective is also felt amongst others. I felt less alone and grateful to have done this practice so I can start showing compassion for myself while holding an example for others to do the same. Thank you💓

That opened my mind to the most simple thought, that we are all OK. And what we are going through at any current moment is a learning tool. Often these experiences are difficult they hurt and I feel the pain, but if they were pleasant every moment would we be working so hard to find our higher vibration and the knowledge of who we really are? Through our pain.... this is the only way to find our inner peace on this earth. Thank you Lou! 🙏❤️
