Hi,
And welcome to another episode of Calm in the Chaos podcast.
My name is Emma Makepeace.
And today we are having a little chat about perspective shift.
So not in the sense of shifting your beliefs or shifting,
You know,
Big mindset stuff.
We're talking physical and energetic perspective shift today.
So what does that mean?
This is all about moving your body.
Because when we move our body,
We move the energy around,
We release any tension that perhaps is built up,
We can look at things from a different viewpoint.
So I want you to take a moment and think about a time just recently where you've either gotten really frustrated by something,
Like it's just not going how you want it to go.
Maybe something doesn't work over and over again and you get really angry with it.
Maybe you're having the same conversation with your child for the 600th time in the space of an hour and it's just going around and around in circles.
You know that feeling where something that you're doing and being involved in just keeps going around in circles and it gets really frustrating and really heavy,
Really fast.
Okay.
So this is where a perspective shift comes in.
And this can be a really powerful tool as well if you are in a disagreement with somebody.
Might be your partner,
Might be your kids.
Where what you do is you change the location of your physical body.
So without just walking off on somebody,
You can say,
I require space right now.
So that the conversation isn't over,
You can come back to it.
But right now,
I require space.
So that's loving for you.
It's not putting any responsibility or anything negative to the other person.
It's not causing harm to them.
If it's just a little discussion that you're having.
And so saying,
I require space.
And then take your body outside if you're inside.
So allow them,
Your body,
Firstly to move.
So the physical movement will begin to just release and shift energy from your body by walking,
By whether it's running,
Skipping,
Whatever it is that you're doing.
Maybe you need to just shake it all out.
Maybe it's having your bare feet on the earth.
Maybe it is feeling the wind against your skin,
Connecting into nature,
Whatever it might be,
Hearing the birds,
Hearing outside noises,
Just to shift your focus from that immediate thing that has taken place,
That has caused this angst or these emotions to rise up,
That has got you feeling really on edge,
Perhaps,
Or just frustrated.
And giving yourself space to expand and go,
Okay,
What do I really require here?
You don't need to have the answer straight away.
Just giving your body that space to move,
To shift,
To release without needing to judge it without needing to know exactly what's taking place.
Maybe it is that you need to actually put your body in a different space.
So it might be in water,
Maybe in the shower or in the ocean,
Go for a swim or in a pool,
Go for a swim and notice that stillness around you when you dive under the water or when your head goes under the water in the shower,
That feeling,
That sensation,
Touch against your skin,
Being aware and noticing what melts away,
What feels as though it's washing away,
To give you clarity,
To bring some calm into,
Okay,
What next?
How could I approach this differently?
Allowing you space to come back into question about what does your body require to bring this calm into this situation?
Where is it that you're trying to control?
Where is it that you require something else?
Maybe it's more information,
Maybe it is support,
Whatever it might be,
But allowing space for those to come to you.
The second way that I really love to perspective shift is to physically change the angle that I'm looking at the world from.
So if I've been sitting staring at a computer screen for a few hours working on like my website or video edits or writing copy or whatever it might be,
Doing client calls,
Any of those things,
I love to then stand up and just fold forwards over my legs.
So as though I'm reaching down to touch my toes,
Bend my knees,
Even bring my hands onto the floor.
And firstly,
It stretches out the legs and the lower back.
So that helps to shift any tension that's built up from just sitting,
Gets the energy flowing,
Gets you connecting back to the earth and also shifts the perspective that you're viewing the world from.
So instead of looking at this straight here right in front of me,
I'm now looking at the world from the earth up.
Maybe folding forwards isn't for you.
Maybe you go and lie down somewhere.
Maybe you go and find a flower or an insect outside and you go and just look really closely at it.
So get as close as you can so that everything else melts away in the background or the opposite.
You go and hop on a swing and swing your body.
So go to the local park or again,
If you've got kids with a playset,
Go and hop on the swing,
Swing and look at the sky from a different angle as a movement as well.
And look at the ground from a different angle as you move.
Perhaps it's hanging upside down on the monkey bars if that's safe for you to do so.
And again,
That perspective shift,
You are looking at the world,
Your mind's eye is looking at the world,
At your challenges,
At whatever has been coming up in you emotionally that you felt stuck in,
That's felt chaotic for you.
You can view that from a different angle,
Which can bring clarity and calmness as all the things that maybe don't matter or are not required in that situation begin to drop off because the body starts to release tension.
You've had a shift in your viewpoint so that you can then come back if required to the problem,
The challenge,
Maybe it's even the argument or the conversation with a fresh perspective.
So I would love for you to share on either Instagram at Make Peace Lifestyle or the Facebook page where you've experienced this.
Do you have a way that you particularly love to create a perspective shift by physically moving your body?
Do you dance?
Do you go and do cartwheels?
Do you jump on the trampoline?
Do you go for a swim or a shower?
Do you have a way that works for you?
Or is this something that you're going to explore and then share your insights with us?
I would love to hear what it is that you either practice or are going to explore and see what comes through for you.
Until next time,
I look forward to seeing you all again soon on Calm in the Chaos.
