Why is it a problem to have an inner critic?
I teach freedom from the inner critic and people say,
Well,
That voice,
It's in my head.
There's nothing I can do about it.
Why is that even an issue?
True reasons,
Both scientific.
The first is that every time you say something awful to yourself,
Every time you're mean to yourself,
Every time you say that was stupid,
How could you have done that?
Your amygdala fires.
Your amygdala is meant to fire when a wild beast is attacking you in the jungle and your stress hormones turns on.
There's an adrenaline rush.
Your heart starts to beat quicker.
Your body is functioning at higher capacity,
But it's just a thought.
There's no one to run away from.
There's no one to beat up.
It's just a thought in your head and that burns energy.
Everyone is burnt out.
I work with very successful people.
Their biggest problem is they have success,
But they have no energy.
They're burnt out.
It's the thoughts in our heads.
Yes,
Nutrition is super important.
Yes,
Sleep is important.
Exercise is important,
But if you have critical thoughts,
You can be very well slept on a perfect diet.
Exercise and do pilates all the time and have no energy because it's your thoughts that take away the energy.
The amygdala fires,
You lose energy.
The second reason is that every time you blame,
What it causes is the desire to seek revenge.
Where there's blame,
You wanna like make it right,
But you're getting revenge on yourself.
So it's just basic self-sabotage.
So first you blame yourself that you didn't finish the project.
Then you self-sabotage by like eating a whole pizza or not going to bed when you need the sleep,
Or you sabotage your relationship,
And then you can just cycle.
I work a lot with lawyers,
And in their case,
It's a lot of substance abuse.
Inner critic,
Blame,
Substance abuse.
Let's get out of the cycle.
Close your eyes and just say,
May I be happy.
May I be truly happy.
Set those intentions,
And those intentions will change your life.
