So big topic for today,
Let's ask the biggest possible question,
What is the meaning of
life?
I'll share what I've come to.
I've studied world religions,
I've studied Buddhism very deeply,
I've been meditating
since age 16,
I've studied neuroscience,
I've really studied Eastern traditions as well
as Judeo-Christian traditions very,
Very deeply.
I believe that the meaning of life is joy and growth.
Every single day,
Finding joy.
As if you just came onto this earth for the first time and imagine that moment where you
first open your eyes and you're like,
Wow,
It's such an amazing world,
There's so much
I can do,
There's so much I can see.
Finding joy with pleasure drinking your tea,
Finding joy in your connection with other
people.
It's finding joy in rest,
Finding joy in work,
Finding joy in your own body,
Your own personality
and how you are.
Just find that basic joy of existing.
So then the second question becomes,
How do we get there?
Two things.
The first prerequisite,
Compassion in your heart for imperfect beings,
Or we can say
love for imperfect beings.
There's this great phrase from Byron Katie that your job is unconditional love.
The universe's job is to push your buttons.
So every imperfect being have space in your heart for them as they are yourself and every
person you meet.
And that will make for a life of joy and growth.
And the second part of that is awareness,
Mindfulness.
This is why I recommend doing a breath focused meditation at least for five,
10 minutes every
single day.
Being aware of your breath in the moment,
You connect to the present moment and everything
happens in the present moment.
Your mindfulness,
The quality of your attention is the quality of your relationships.
If you're a parent,
It's the quality of how you are as a parent.
It's the quality of your work,
Attention to detail,
The quality of your creativity.
Everything is in the present.
So I hope you're in the present also.
The goal is path to happiness and I do think that the goal of a human life is happiness.
What other goal could there be?
The more happiness you feel,
The more happiness you spread.
The more happiness you experience,
The more happiness you create.
So may you create happiness,
May you find joy,
May you spread that joy to every other
person and may you grow in a way that you yourself are amazed by the journey you've
had.
And I'll see you soon.
