This practice is best when done outside. Perhaps, sitting on the ground near a beautiful tree, in your backyard, facing a plant, a tree, or the sky. Find somewhere you can be with a glimpse of nature. Grounding calls us to get in touch with our humanity and appreciate what we have within and outside of us. I hope that you enjoy this meditation. Welcome.

This practice is best when done outside,

Perhaps sitting on the ground,

Sitting near a beautiful tree or sitting in your backyard facing a plant,

A tree or the sky.

Sit comfortably wherever you are and start to bring your awareness to your breath.

Breathing in and out for a few seconds and settling in,

Relaxing the shoulders,

Relaxing the body,

Relaxing the muscles of your face.

Telling your eyes or keeping a low gaze towards the ground.

Start to feel your body on the surface.

If you are sitting on a chair,

Start to press your feet on the ground with gentle firmness.

If you are sitting cross-legged,

You may bring your hands to your sides and touch the ground gently.

Feel the point of contact between your body and the surface and breathe into it.

Breathing in as we settle our bodies more and more,

Feeling that point of contact with the ground.

Now,

Imagine that your energy extends to the ground.

Seeing how the earth is receiving your gentle and loving touch with openness.

Breathing in,

Feeling grounded and breathing out,

Expanding toward the earth.

One more time,

Breathing in and feeling grounded and breathing out,

Extending toward the earth.

Breathing for a few seconds with this grounding feeling,

Embracing it and seeing how it feels in your body and in your mind.

If your mind wanders,

Just bring it back to that point of contact.

The earth is in contact with the earth.

Mindfully grounding ourselves in the surface.

Breathing in and feeling grounded and breathing out.

Breathing out.

Now let's close this meditation with a quote from a great scholar and eco-activist,

Joanna Macy.

Being fully present to fear,

To gratitude,

To all that is,

This is the practice of mutual belonging.

As living members of the living body of earth,

We are grounded in that kind of belonging.

And when faced with cataclysmic changes,

Nothing can ever separate us from earth.

We are already home.
