Sometimes there are things that we wish we heard as children that would have impacted us and our future selves. Maybe we feel we were a little more seen, heard, valued, understood... The gift is that we have the opportunity to give ourselves some of those things—even now as we grow older. In this meditation, we'll reflect on what it is we may have felt we were missing and use affirmations to help fill some of those voids. Note: This is in no way meant to replace therapy or counseling. If you find this meditation brings up a lot for you, I encourage you to seek additional professional support.

Hi friend,

This meditation is to help you heal your inner child.

It's a meditation that will be filled with affirmations and words that maybe you needed to hear as a child but didn't.

This meditation is by no means a replacement for the powerful work that you could do with a professional therapist to really heal your inner child.

This meditation is simply in addition to your healing.

When you're ready,

Slowly turn inward.

Feel free to adjust as needed,

Closing your eyes gently if that feels okay.

Starting at the top of your head,

Relaxing all the muscles in your forehead,

Your temples.

Feel your face,

Your jaw,

Your cheeks relax.

Feel your neck and your shoulders soften down and as you breathe in slowly feel your heart open.

As you exhale,

Feel really rooted and grounded,

Held.

Breathe in,

Exhale.

Feeling safe in this moment,

Tapping into the peace and the calm within you,

The warmth of your own presence.

Breathe in slowly,

Let it all go.

Feel yourself arriving in this moment as you are,

Letting go of any expectations or judgments.

Slowing your breath down,

Inhale,

Exhale.

Relaxing your arms down all the way to your fingertips,

Embracing the stillness.

Slow,

Slow breath in,

Slower breath out.

Begin to visualize the child version of you or the littlest version of you that you know needed more love,

More attention,

More support.

Imagine this version of you walking toward you,

Noticing what you're wearing,

What your hair looks like.

Do you have shoes on or are you barefoot?

Is there a toy in your hand?

Are your eyes sparkling?

Are you smiling or are you more serious,

Quiet?

Just imagining this little version of you.

Gently imagine that this little version of you comes and sits down right in front of you and you take a deep breath in,

Exhale.

And this little version of you says,

I've been looking everywhere for you.

And you say,

I'm so glad you're here.

Reaching your hands out gently to meet the small hands of this little version of you,

Holding them.

And gently you look into the eyes of this little version of you.

And this little version of you is looking up to you with so much wonder and awe.

And now is the time to say everything that you needed to hear.

With so much love and compassion,

Imagine whispering these words to this version of you.

I love you.

I love you so much.

I am here for you.

I am not going anywhere.

I am not mad at you.

I care deeply about you.

I would do anything for you.

You are safe to be yourself.

You are allowed to make mistakes and mess up and be imperfect.

And I will still love you.

You are supported by me no matter what you choose to do with your life.

You are seen.

You are heard.

I am so proud of you.

My life is better because you are my child.

I am so glad you were born.

I am listening to you.

You are worth protecting.

What happened to you is not your fault.

You are not alone.

I am with you.

It is okay to feel.

You are so important to me.

You matter and you make a difference.

Other people's moods are not your fault.

Your feelings are valid.

Your voice is so important and I hear you.

You are worthy of love just as you are.

And now take a moment to whisper something that only you know you needed to hear.

When you're ready,

Smiling at this little version of you and maybe giving them a hug.

Maybe a gentle kiss on the forehead if that feels okay.

One last look into their little eyes.

Notice how you feel in this moment.

How does it feel to give this love?

How does it feel to support and encourage and love your inner child?

Breathe in slowly.

Exhale.

Just holding space for yourself and whatever is coming up for you.

Allowing what is.

Someone by the name of Vienna wrote,

You are deserving of relief of that weight being lifted off your shoulders.

You were not put on this world to save others,

Carry the burden of your family secrets,

Be an adult when you were meant to be a child,

Or be okay when you weren't.

You were not put on this world to make sure that you don't disrupt the peace in order to protect those around you or to live out the dreams of others just because they fell short.

You are here to walk your path,

Find peace where there was once pain,

Chaos,

And suffering,

And walk your own self towards your healing.

If you'd like you can place your hands over your heart just again observing how you feel,

How your inner child feels.

What a gift it is that you can give yourself the very love and attention that you longed for.

There is still time to heal your inner child,

To give them everything.

Breathe in,

Breathe out.

Be gentle with yourself today from my heart to yours.

Not sure what I’d expected from this, but not these waterfalls of tears! It feels both healing, and a small ache and longing to truly hold my child self. Thank you for this meditation, I’ll come back to it, meeting different versions of my younger self.
