This is a short practice in one of the fundamentals of meditation.
Today we are talking about trust and why that's important to have in your meditation,
How you can go about tapping into trust.
But first,
A little overview of the type of meditation I teach.
This is a meditation style that is very easy,
Natural,
And instinctive and allows you to connect with all that you love about life.
It allows the love that you have for being alive,
Being here,
To nourish you not just in your practice but in your outer practice,
In real life.
And one of the ways in which we can cultivate a meditation practice that leads to these great benefits is by having a foundation in the fundamental that is trust.
So when I speak of trust,
This is first and foremost a trust in yourself.
Do I trust myself to hold,
Contain,
And support me in meditation?
Trust is so important because meditation is a space of safety.
It is a space where it is safe for what's coming up in our lives to be expressed,
To be brought to our attention,
To be worked out in the safety of this self-contained space that is your meditation practice.
So having this trust is like being able to interface with aspects of yourself and life in a way that is solid and contained because the things that come up during meditation can be wild,
Right?
Anyone who has meditated knows that some things just pop in and you don't even know where it came from.
It's like something that you haven't thought of in years or it's like this series of thoughts that are so negative,
Surprisingly so,
All of a sudden showing up in the space that is your meditation and remembering to welcome it all.
But beyond that welcoming,
Trusting,
I can handle,
I can solidly hold my experience in this space of meditation because in this trust of yourself,
You're telling your entire system,
Your entire body,
Your mind,
Your feelings,
Everything,
You're telling them that anything is okay to come up because I know that I can hold,
Support,
And contain myself.
I have this trust in myself.
So beginning to wonder what trust feels like in your system,
What does it feel like?
Trust.
What does I trust myself feel like?
Knowing that there's definitely going to be parts of yourself that the trust is a little more shaky and that's fine,
But being willing and open to continuing to develop this sense of trust in yourself,
This ability to hold yourself.
So what does trust feel like in your body?
You can start to explore using your hands,
Using body movements,
Perhaps repeating to yourself,
I trust myself.
And as you get more acquainted with what trust feels like in your system,
Noticing when certain movements aren't quite aligning,
When certain words feel off,
And noting that okay,
This is where my trust in myself isn't too solid just yet.
And here's where we can turn to the vaster aspects to resource us in this feeling of trust.
And when I say vaster aspects,
A great one is the earth.
So the earth is beneath us,
It holds us,
Supports us,
Contains us.
It is here for us no matter what and this trust that we have in her to be here to hold us is deep,
Is true,
Is unwavering.
So tapping in to that trust of the earth and then allowing your system to start to pattern this feeling of trust into yourselves.
This is what trust feels like.
Feeling with your hands,
Your feet,
Your bottom,
The solidity of the earth beneath you,
Relaxing into that trust for her.
I trust the earth.
I trust that I am held and contained by the earth and that she is here for me no matter what.
There is a solidity and an irrefutability of these statements that carry so much trust in them.
There's something that is almost joyful about having this much trust in something,
So much awe,
Wonder.
Knowing that this is a trust that is infinite and because it is so vast,
So infinite,
I can call upon it to help me remember and establish and shore up the parts of myself that I'm having more trouble trusting right now.
And you can do this through,
I like to do it by scooping it up with my hands and then spreading it onto myself saying,
Hmm,
Help me learn how to trust myself more and more completely.
And feeling that trust start to take root in yourself.
Being open,
Curious,
And with an explorer's mind.
Being open to tend this little sprout of trust that you've sown in yourself in the coming days,
Weeks,
Months,
In your meditation practice,
Beyond your meditation practice.
I trust myself.
I trust the life force that moves through me and I trust the life force that surrounds me and contains me.
