This is a practice for dissolving into desire.
To allow ourselves to dissolve and melt into all that we want,
All that we yearn for,
And allow ourselves to be infused with our desires and bathe in our desires is actually very healing.
It's refreshing to finally be able to allow all that we want to take up the space it wants to communicate to us its full range.
So you'll find that this practice might be fun and it'll definitely allow you to emerge much more refreshed and much more whole.
This is a practice adapted with permission from my teacher Lauren Roche who describes this meditation as a bhavana meditation.
Bhavana is a Sanskrit word for infusion,
Like when we steep tea leaves,
And it's used in ancient texts to describe soaking yourself in a quality you love and deeply need.
I love thinking about our desires as something that we can infuse ourselves with because infusion,
This word,
Has a meaning of continuous slow introduction of a solution into the body.
So there's these qualities that we all need and crave and by meditating in it we can slowly,
Gently,
And continuously introduce it into our experience.
When I first heard about this meditation and tried it a couple times,
To me it feels like an infusion that's a little bit more literal.
Like,
I think of this practice as a virtual hot spring soak.
So I'm from Taiwan and there's a lot of hot springs there and when we go to the hot spring the words we use don't translate to I'm going to the hot spring but it translates to something like I'm going to steep myself in soup or I'm going to be in soup.
And I think that's really funny because it's like we're literally cooking ourselves in all that hot spring goodness and infusing ourselves with this quality of life that we really need.
So let's start infusing ourselves and soaking ourselves in something that we really want.
We'll begin by finding a position to sit or lie down in that feels comfortable and right for your body.
Almost like we're positioning ourselves to get ready for a spa treatment or massage.
Like you're getting into that embodiment of ah I'm about to get worked on I get to relax and melt and be held and supported.
Feeling your system relax and your body adjust itself a little bit in allowing that embodiment of spa day to come in to this space of practice.
Throughout this meditation you are free to continue to follow your body's instincts and lie down sit or stand even.
Allow a few spacious moments to let yourself transition deeper into meditation.
Remember that this is a time for you to be yourself to be free to connect with what you need for healing balance and deep satisfaction.
Being grateful to yourself for creating this time and space to be intimate with yourself and the life force.
Now taking some time to wonder what is the quality of life that I want to experience in this meditation?
What quality do I want to be filled with,
Charged with,
And infused by?
If this quality was a drink you would want to imbibe it.
If this was a drink you would want to imbibe it.
If this was an oil you would want to smooth it all over your body.
If this was a sound you would want to hear and feel the vibration.
Giving yourself the space to identify one,
Two,
Or three words.
Letting these words represent qualities you feel attracted to right now.
Giving yourself a chance to love each word,
Leisurely.
Letting yourself slowly and tenderly fall in love with each word.
Bonding with the word.
Letting your body be at home with the word.
Starting to flow into a dance with the word.
Inviting some rhythm and maybe movement into your experience.
Each of these words has a certain movement to it and I encourage you to explore and experiment with what that feels like in your hands and maybe in the way you sway your body.
And as you move you can leisurely think of each word and then pause for just a moment to feel it resonating within you.
Perhaps every 10 or 20 seconds thinking of one of your words and feeling its tone reverberate in and through your body.
You might want to whisper the words or simply allow them to be thoughts,
Sounds,
Images,
And feelings in your heart,
Your mind,
And your body.
Remembering that this practice is very simple.
This is time for you to be with these qualities in your own natural way.
Allow yourself to fully and completely yearn for these qualities and rest in that instinctive wisdom.
This is a quality that I need.
Tenderly and gently giving yourself permission to be with the thoughts,
Images,
Sounds,
And sensations that emerge with the quality of life you have selected.
Continuing to trust your instincts,
Senses,
Rhythms,
And desires.
Every so often remembering the word or words you've selected and each time revisiting them with a welcoming.
A welcoming back its sound,
Its meaning,
And the feelings that come with them.
This is an improvisational mantra that has come from your own inner wisdom.
Your inner wisdom of desire.
Your inner wisdom of love.
You may think of the words once or twice and then wait 15-30 seconds before thinking of them again.
All the while breathing with the sounds of the words and the spaces between the words.
Welcoming the rhythms,
The emotions,
And sensations evoked.
Letting yourself continue to journey with these words and not expecting anything.
Allowing meditation to be spontaneous and presenting exactly what you need.
As we begin to transition out of meditation,
Notice how you feel now and what it was like to be on this inner journey of connecting to all that you desire.
Is there anything you'd like to remember from this experience or take with you as you move back into the world?
Maybe some inner wisdom that you'd like to keep close to your heart.
Know that this simple practice of connecting with what you love and what you desire is always available to you.
And as we transition out,
We practice bringing this sacred space of meditation,
Poise,
And relaxation into our outer world of action.
Taking the time to let your body reorient to the outer world and making that connection between the inner world of meditation and the activity of the world around you.
