The goal of this session is to relax and quiet the conscious mind enough in order to allow the unconscious mind to be ready to receive and accept all of the positive suggestions for your highest good. This guided meditation is for anyone who wants to be able to drink alcohol more responsibly and in moderation. This is NOT meant for anyone who may have a problem with their alcohol usage or may be addicted. If you think you have a problem with alcohol please seek professional help.
Transcript
Go ahead and find a comfortable place to lay or sit and just rest comfortably and begin to breathe slowly and gently,
Inhaling and exhaling,
Slowing that breath down as much as you can with longer inhales and even longer exhales,
Beginning to relax the body,
Letting go,
Relaxing the mind and allowing that relaxation to just flow down your entire body like a wave of relaxation from the top of your head to the tips of your toes,
Feeling so peaceful and relaxed and comfortable.
You have already decided on a conscious level that it's time to reduce your alcohol intake and now we just need to reinforce your desire and your motivation to your unconscious mind to stick to your decision.
We have determined that you are not an alcoholic.
You are not dependent on alcohol,
As some people are,
And you may only drink occasionally or socially or maybe alone at home out of habit or boredom.
The problem is that when you do drink alcohol,
You may drink more than you planned or more than you would have liked to.
That is perfectly understandable because the first thing that alcohol attacks is your brain.
If you could stop drinking after you have reached your threshold,
For example,
Maybe one or two drinks,
Then perhaps that would be ideal for you.
However,
Once you have consumed more than this amount,
Your mind has already gone into a different state of reality where you just want to keep drinking and nothing else matters much anymore.
I'm sure you're already well aware of the damage that alcohol can cause.
Aside from the medical problems such as cancers and cirrhosis of the liver,
You are more likely to do or say things you later regret,
Start an argument with someone,
React more sensitively and maybe emotionally,
Make poor decisions,
And end up hurting ourselves or others somehow.
After all,
Alcohol is a poison,
And each time you drink it,
You are poisoning your body and your mind,
Making you physically and mentally weak and sick.
Alcohol can compromise your immune system and ruin not only that night,
But the whole next day if you drink so much that you're hungover.
I'm sure you know the feeling,
And it is awful,
Just awful.
The feeling of being hungover is so horrible,
In fact,
That you may have even sworn to yourself at times that you would never drink alcohol again.
Perhaps you prayed for the pain to go away and to feel better again,
But your mind is very powerful,
And it has a way of forgetting this pain and convincing you that alcohol will help ease the pain and make all your problems disappear.
And in the moment,
You may have even believed it,
But deep down,
You know the truth.
Deep down,
You know that drinking too much alcohol will only make your problems worse.
You know that alcohol tricks you into thinking it's the answer to all your problems,
An escape from reality,
But the reality is it's a depressant,
And the only thing alcohol helps you escape to is a state of depression,
Adding to your problems and making you feel worse than before you even drink.
And if your weight or body image is a concern to you,
Then you know very well that alcohol will make you gain weight,
Be less active,
More tired,
And more sluggish.
Alcohol causes major dehydration,
Which can cause wrinkles,
A poor complexion,
And skin-related problems,
Making you look and feel older.
Drinking too much alcohol can also cause us financial problems because,
As you know,
Alcohol is pretty expensive.
So now let's imagine yourself in a situation where you would normally be tempted to drink too much alcohol.
Now you are left with two options,
Not drinking alcohol at all or only drinking in moderation.
Imagine yourself there in that environment now,
Ordering or pouring yourself your very first drink of alcohol.
And you're proud of yourself because you ate a good meal about an hour or so ago because you know how important it is to have a full stomach in helping you stay sober.
Imagine yourself taking that first drink in your hand,
Lift the glass up to your mouth,
And take a short sip of the alcohol.
There is no hurry to finish your drink.
You have the rest of the night to relax,
So you place your drink onto a nearby table and continue to enjoy yourself.
You drink at your own pace.
There is absolutely no rush to finish,
And you are aware of what could happen if you do.
You want to be in control,
Safe,
Make good decisions,
Be proud of yourself,
And feel good the rest of the night and tomorrow.
Perhaps at times you think you need to keep up with how much other people are drinking or that the alcohol will help you have more fun or be more comfortable.
And you quickly recall all of the problems alcohol causes that I talked about earlier.
And you also remember that your mind has a way of tricking you.
But you no longer fall for this trick.
And you know that the only way to reach your goals and be the person that you truly want to be is by limiting how much alcohol you drink.
You also know that if you can't moderate how much alcohol you drink,
Then there may actually be a concern about addiction.
And then the only solution left is to stop drinking completely.
So if you want to be able to drink alcohol in moderation,
You must be in control and moderate it.
And so you realize that some time has passed,
And you've been enjoying yourself,
And you still have the same drink sitting on the table.
At times you sip on the drink slowly,
And at times you forget it's even there.
Eventually,
Your glass is empty.
However,
Instead of getting another alcoholic beverage,
You get a glass of water or something else refreshing and hydrating that you enjoy drinking.
And as that liquid flows down your throat,
You can feel it actually flushing out the toxins and poisons from your first drink.
It feels amazing in your body.
It has hydrating and rejuvenating powers that you never expected,
And the toxicity from your first drink is flushed out of your system.
The hydration makes you feel alive,
And you may now be ready for a second alcoholic beverage.
Or you may chase the feeling of feeling good and alive and say you've had enough for tonight.
Either way,
You realize that hydrating between alcoholic beverages helps you moderate how much alcohol you drink,
And it helps you hydrate,
Which makes you feel better and helps you keep moving towards your goals.
You are in full control of yourself,
And you will wake up the next morning feeling awake and refreshed with not a hangover in sight.
And as you reduce your alcohol intake,
You find you are rewarded in many ways.
Better health,
Weight loss,
Improved sleep,
More energy,
More motivation,
More confidence,
More money,
More productivity,
Healthier relationships,
Valuing yourself,
And loving yourself.
You have taken control of your life by taking control of your actions,
And your old drinking habits have been replaced with newer,
More sensible ones.
You suddenly realize that moderation is the key to everything.
The key to a healthy,
Happy life.
And not just drinking alcohol,
But in everything.
Your unconscious mind is alert and listening right now.
This new realization becomes your new belief system.
The positive thoughts,
Emotions,
Behaviors,
And results you see from this simple change far outweighs any craving to drink more.
You refocus all your attention,
Time,
And money that you were spending on alcohol and focus it on what you want to accomplish in life.
What you want it to look like,
And who you truly want to be.
And after just a short while,
Your old habit of alternating drinks changes once more to just having the alcoholic drink less and less often.
In fact,
You begin to associate alcohol with something that repulses you.
Could be something like snakes or spiders.
I wonder if you could imagine now picking up your favorite alcoholic drink,
And it suddenly turning into that very thing that repulses you.
I would imagine you would quickly drop the drink and run far,
Far away from it.
But remember what you're running towards.
You're running away from alcohol and running towards yourself.
Self-control,
Self-care,
Self-esteem,
Self-worth,
And self-love.
Take a moment,
And I wonder if you can feel the power in choosing you,
In choosing yourself.
What would that feel like to have self-control,
To value yourself,
And to love yourself?
Right now,
Your conscious mind and your unconscious mind are working together,
And these suggestions are firmly embedded within you,
And they grow stronger and stronger day by day.
Now I'd like you to repeat these affirmations to yourself in your mind.
I choose myself every day.
I choose to self-control every day.
I choose to take good care of myself every day.
I choose to value myself every day.
I choose to love myself every day.
And now I'd like you to take this all in with a very deep breath in,
Bringing us back present in the body and feeling that breath,
Feeling alive and proud of ourselves,
And being able to wiggle the fingers and the toes,
And opening the eyes,
Taking another big deep breath in.
Congratulations on choosing you.

Thank you so much I now always drink in moderation compared with the long distant past and usually all is fine & I never have anything untill late evening but on occasions being now retired I am watching a good film or reading a great book, my drink is finished and I tell myself one more won't hurt and it is that one more that I want to stop (it really is one more) Again thank you & I will listen to your words (this is now bookmarked)
