Sleep is so critical for our ability to make a difference in the world. Turning off our mind and allowing our body to relax sets us up for deeper, more peaceful sleep. Our bodies know how to heal and rejuvenate us. We simply need to release and allow. Music by James Anthony Walker

Hello and welcome to this meditation on deep sleep.

Sleep is what heals us,

But helps us resettle our mind and our body and is so critical to every aspect of our life.

So I invite you to get comfortable,

Laying down,

Wiggling,

Moving those toes,

Making sure everything is just right.

And when you've found your comfortable spot,

We turn our attention to our breath.

To the center of our chest,

Where our heart and our lungs reside.

Breathing deeply,

Relaxing completely.

Let's just let it all go.

Feel your chest expand.

Focus on the rhythm of your body.

Your body wants to rest.

It wants to sleep very,

Very deeply.

It wants to heal and be made whole.

It's our agitation,

Our tension that often prevent that.

One of the ways to release that is to re-sync our breathing with our heartbeat.

This will happen naturally as we move through this meditation.

It's not a point of worry or focus.

Simply allow your body to do what it knows how to do.

Continuing to take nice,

Slow breaths.

Begin to come aware of places of tension.

Is it your hands from working all day?

Is it your shoulders from hunching over?

Is it your back?

Simply focus and consciously relax each area.

Scan your body.

Find the next place.

Allow it to relax.

Nobody asked it to.

When you finish this first scan,

Focus once again on your breathing,

The center of your chest.

Breathing expanding and releasing.

There is no need to hurry.

We can't do it wrong.

We're simply allowing our body to do what it both needs and wants to do.

Continue deeply and completely relax.

As our heart slows just a bit,

The heartbeat smooths and drops in with rhythm with our own breathing.

If you have a partner there in bed with you,

You may even drop into rhythm together.

But again,

We're not trying to do this.

Our body knows how.

Simply relax and allow.

Tell your body it's now time to sleep.

It's now time to rest.

You may even choose to thank it for all it has done for you today.

Allow yourself to drift,

To move into that pre sleep state.

Allow each and every cell of your being to fall into its own peaceful,

Restful,

Healing rhythm.

One more scan in the other place that you feel you're still holding tension.

Ask it to relax.

Know that it has served you well today.

That it's now time to rest and let it go.

As your body calms,

Your mind calms as well.

We simply suspend the thoughts.

We allow them to float away.

Knowing that we'll be clearer tomorrow.

We'll be clear as we wake up,

Rested and refreshed.

More healed,

More whole.

And we can use that clarity to help with anything that's still there in the morning.

Continuing to relax.

Moving more peacefully,

More deeply.

Using the rhythm of our breath into sleep.

Deep,

Deep,

Peaceful sleep.

Ex departed.
