If you desire a human being,

Look at the light of the Infinite's presence in everything.

Look at the Eden of spiritual life and how it bleases into each corner and crevice of life.

Feel and of this world right before your eyes of flesh and your eyes of soul.

Gaze at the wonders of creation,

At their divine life,

Not like some dim phenomenon that is placed before your eyes from afar,

But know the reality in which you live.

Know yourself and your world.

Know the thoughts of your heart and of all who speak and think.

Find the source of life inside you,

Higher than you,

Around you,

The beautiful ones alive in this generation in whose midst you are immersed.

Find the love within you,

Lift it up to its mighty root,

To its beauty of Eden.

Send it spreading out to the entire flood of the soul of the life of worlds whose light is reduced only by incapable human expression.

Gaze at the lights and what they contain.

Do not let the names,

Phrases,

And letters swallow up your soul.

They have been given over to you.

You have not been given over to them.

Rise up,

Rise up for you have the power.

You have the wings of the Spirit,

Wings of powerful evils.

Do not deny them or they will deny you.

Seek them and you will find them instantly.

Rav Avraham Yitzchak HaKoen Kook In the words of this beautiful poem,

We're invited to look past that which can be named and labeled,

That which can be communicated through words alone,

Through signs,

And through symbols.

We're invited into the depths of our hearts,

Our souls,

And our minds.

Not to be afraid of what we find on the way,

But to know that as we dig and as we struggle,

We are in our efforts victorious.

Can you take a moment today to close your eyes,

To invite a breath into your lungs and into the deepest parts of yourself?

Welcome the silence,

Welcome the stillness,

And surrender,

Even if it's just for the moment,

To realizing that the journey into the depths can be beautiful.

And what we notice can be embraced joyfully.

And that merely in noticing,

We are growing in our awareness of that which is within us and in turn within all of life.

I bless you in your journey and in your moments of silence that you always remember to notice that there is so much beauty within.

I have not read Rav Cook's poetry in a long time. I always found it beautiful, but also very frightening, though I never understood why. It was so interesting hearing this today, years later- I still find it beautiful and frightening, but now I can sit with the beauty and fear together and see what comes up, not close the book and walk away. Maybe age has changed my perception of fear to now be a friend trying to tell me something. Thank you for this.
