I penned this meditation inspired by the works of British born Essayist and Novelist, Pico Iyer, who is famously known for his travel writings. Despite visiting the most exotic places, he realised that by “going nowhere”, his passion for the world was rediscovered. This practice invites you to visualise a place where you can find stillness from within. This is your sanctuary that you can return to whenever you need to. Embark on a musical journey as the soundscape soothes your soul. There is no ending bell and soundtrack lingers on even as the meditation ends, to allow you to ease your way back to your day at your own time. From my heart to yours, I hope you enjoy it!

In an era where things are moving faster than ever there is a certain charm about going slow.

Amidst the sea of modern distractions there is a certain opulence and paying attention to the here-and-now and in a world that's constantly on the move there is an undeniable urge for stillness.

Welcome and thank you for joining me.

My name is Deb and I'll be guiding you on a meditation inviting you to look inwards to find stillness within.

So let's begin.

Take a moment to find a comfortable position allowing your body to relax and settle into the space around you.

Gently closing down the eyes maintain a soft gaze.

Take a deep breath in through your nose and a slow long exhalation through your mouth releasing any tension you might be holding on to.

Let's do these two more times.

Breathing in deeply and exhaling fully.

Now become aware of your body.

Notice if there are any areas of tightness or discomfort.

As you breathe imagine each breath flowing to these areas like a warm soothing light melting away any tension.

See if you can soften with each out-breath.

Now turning your attention inwards let's start to create some space from within.

Imagine yourself in a serene peaceful place.

Perhaps a calm lake nestled in the mountains or a quiet meadow surrounded by tall trees.

The atmosphere is filled with tranquility and a gentle breeze brushes against your skin.

You feel a profound sense of peace and contentment.

In this place of stillness there are no distractions,

No pressures,

No worries.

It's just you and the present moment.

Allow yourself to fully immerse in this feeling of tranquility.

If any distractions or thoughts arise,

Gently acknowledge them and return your focus to the present moment.

Feel the stillness spreading through every cell of your body.

With each breath it permeates your being calming your mind and soothing your soul.

In this moment of stillness you are free from the burdens of the past and the uncertainties of the future.

You are here now and that is all that matters.

Take a few moments to simply be in the stillness allowing yourself to experience the peace it brings.

Embrace the silence and the simplicity of this moment.

And as this practice comes to a close remember that you can always return to this place of stillness anytime you need.

It is always available within you.

Now begin to pay attention to the sounds around you.

Bring some movement to your fingers and your toes.

And when you are ready gently blink your eyes open and return your attention to the room.
