Being with myself.

Just as our love affair with speediness of our machines and their noise disconnects us from the natural world.

So also it disconnects us from ourselves which is not so obvious.

Having a relationship with our self sounds slightly impossible.

It implies that there are two selves capable of relating to each other.

There isn't of course,

But we do have one feature of consciousness which differentiates us from all other creatures with consciousness.

That is we can self reflect.

It is when self reflects upon the self that we create a kind of relationship with our self.

But like all relationships,

How well we know our self will be the biggest factor in the nature of our relationship with our self.

When we don't know our self as we truly are,

We mistake ourselves for what we are not.

And the first thing we mistake ourselves for is our body.

We look in the mirror and believe that what we see is what we are.

And when we believe we are our body,

We will soon believe our happiness in life has to come through our five physical senses including what we see.

And when we look at our body,

We are not happy if it does not look right.

So we treat the body as an object,

As the first machine,

As we try to shape it up and dress it up.

If we believe we are the form that we occupy,

There's a greater chance we will become addicted to the sensual noise of physical stimulation in order to make us feel happy.

But that's only temporary.

And so we separate ourselves,

We disconnect our self from the true nature of our self,

Which is peace,

Contentment,

And a natural joy that is not dependent on anything external.

Now for the next few moments,

Experience soul consciousness,

Awareness of self that is not dependent on anything external or on the cravings of sensual stimulation,

Creates brief moments of happiness.

But instead,

Settle into the awareness of being a being of peace,

Contentment,

And natural joy.

And so we separate ourselves,

We disconnect our self from the true nature of our self,

Which is peace,

Contentment,

And a natural joy that is not dependent on anything external.

And so we separate ourselves,

We disconnect our self from the true nature of our self,

Which is peace,

Contentment,

And a natural joy that is not dependent on anything external.

Thank you.

Having come back to this course I am reminded why, for it still feels like a blow, a blast and a quake to my consciousness.

We are of the body but not the body... Struggle to sit and just BE for very long, but then realized it means to accept with compassion ALL of me, especially the uncomfortable parts like mainly fear... What I engage in negative distraction or avoidance behavior to attempt to make the fear go away (illusion) - sitting and BEing in this way did allow me to face the fear head on because I realized right in this very moment I'm alive and breathing and just looking at it won't make me stop breathing to kill me... I can breathe thru facing the fear. So I did. And write it down. Next I will look at it with compassion for myself and understanding as to why who where how... This acceptance and compassion will give way to the new option to CHOOSE a healthier alternative that I feel good about! Rather than sitting in worry (mental attempt at control). Thank you Jay for providing the space
