You're Sacred, Your Things Aren't
You are enough. Your value is not measured by the things you have or do, but who you are, as you are, right now. As you begin to let go of the things in your life that do not serve you, you'll take back your life.

Hi,
This is Brooks,
And thank you for joining me.
Today we're going to be talking about how you're sacred and your things are not.
And this is the main principle behind decluttering.
It's the willingness to consider yourself first,
Before anything in your life.
And it's quite a different way of thinking because most of us have been taught that things are more important than us.
That as we are is not enough.
And we need to bring things into our lives to give ourselves value.
The more money,
The more people,
The more stuff.
As if it's some kind of savings account.
As if we're not enough.
But the truth of it is that you're the most valuable thing in your life.
And the things in your life have to prove their worth to you.
They have to prove that today their presence is benefiting you in order for them to stay.
And if they don't prove that,
If they're actually taken away from your life,
If they actually make you secondary,
Then those things need to go.
And I'm here to encourage you to take that look.
To ask those questions.
And the things in your life are not just tangible things.
They're not things in your closet or on the table or the things that you can see right in front of you.
They can also be activities in your life.
Things that you do.
You know,
Does this activity benefit me today or not?
And it also includes the people in your life.
Relationships that you have.
Whether it's work relationship or intimate relationship or friendship.
It's really a curiosity to look at all these aspects of your life,
All these things in your life,
To determine whether or not they serve you.
And it all comes back to you being sacred.
It's easy to be tricked.
There's so much advertising out there,
So much marketing that promotes the idea that this thing is so great,
It's going to make you great.
The possession of this thing or this activity.
If you get it,
You're going to be greater.
Greater than you are now.
And they usually present somebody who's in some kind of pain,
Emotional or physical,
In an advertisement.
And so you can relate to that and feel like,
Oh,
There's something wrong with me.
I better get this and then I'll become more.
Which is a lie.
You're already enough as you are.
Regardless of what's going on in your life.
Things are going to come and go in your life.
You've seen that up until now.
Things come and go.
Come and go.
They come and go.
But what remains is you.
Even in the level of your body,
Things change.
We started out as babies and we get bigger.
So the things that were part of us when we were babies,
They changed.
Our bodies change.
Or the way we see the world changes.
Our abilities to do things change over time.
Some things we gain,
Some things we lose.
The main thing that remains is you.
And that's the thing we're talking about cherishing.
That's the thing we're talking about making primary.
That's the thing we're talking about protecting.
That's learning to protect yourself again,
To take care of yourself again.
And to question the things in your life.
And to question the things that come to you as opportunities.
Oh yeah,
That's very exciting.
It seems very exciting.
The way it's presented is really intriguing to me.
But if I bring that into my life,
How is that going to affect me?
Is it going to benefit me in some way or is it just going to become a burden?
And why do I want to bring it into my life?
Is there a feeling of inadequacy,
Of not enoughness in me?
A feeling if I bring this in,
Will it enhance me?
It's worth looking at it this way because it breaks the spell.
This way of questioning things breaks the spell.
The spell of I'm not enough.
And the more you do this,
The more you recognize your own importance,
The more you begin to consider yourself sacred and that everything else is not sacred but must support you.
It may seem weird at first,
It may seem wrong because it goes against the grain of how most of us have been brought up.
But you're worth the look.
And you know the interesting thing is,
If you look at something,
You question it,
You look at this activity,
Let's say it's an activity that you do,
You question it and if it turns out yeah I really like doing this,
It feels good when I do it,
Great.
You got a nice reminder of something that's,
You know,
This is a thing to be grateful for,
I'm glad that I have this.
It serves me.
So you're not going to get rid of anything that you actually love and use.
So you're either reminded of the benefit of something that,
You know,
You might have taken for granted because you forgot about its importance to you,
How it serves you today.
So there's that or you see that no,
This doesn't help me.
This used to help me,
Used to be great,
But I'm different now so it no longer supports me.
Where I really wanted it to support me and it never did.
I really wanted it to serve me and it never ever ever did.
And it doesn't matter how much money we spent on something,
If it doesn't serve us today it has no place in our life.
Because that often happens,
We put money as primary and ourselves as secondary.
And again,
That's a lie.
Your value is immeasurable.
It all comes back to that.
So I encourage you to consider this,
To think about this.
And to begin the questioning,
To begin the looking and the questioning,
The asking.
And great things can come from that.
I've seen many people's lives turn around just from this change of perspective.
Just from considering themselves first.
Everything becomes simpler.
It's no longer that I've got to bring all this stuff into my life to become something wonderful and amazing.
If I can do these things I can become more spiritual.
If I can do these things I can become more lovable.
If I can do these things I'll become more powerful.
We can get lost in that and forget our value right now.
To consider the idea that I'm enough as I am regardless of what's happening in my life is transforming.
And it's kind.
It's loving.
As you are right now.
You're enough.
It's the best gift that you can give yourself.
So I wish you the best.
I also want to let you know that I'm going to be doing live talks on Inside Timer.
And you'll be able to ask any questions you want about your clutter situation,
About how to declutter.
I've had like 20 plus years experience so I've seen quite a lot.
And if you're interested I think you can get a lot out of it.
Plus you get to hear other people talk about their clutter situations and you might be able to relate to what they're going through.
These are all different ways of learning how to look and to feel encouraged in the process of looking.
Encouraged in the process of decluttering.
And basically taking your life back.
That's what this is all about.
Taking your life back from all the stuff and all the things.
Your life is the most valuable thing that you have.
So I hope you can join us for the live talks coming up.
They'll be listed on Inside Timer.
And you can find them.
And I hope to see you there.
Take care.
Now come on.
