Discovering Your Value
This recording helps you remember your value. You'll discover that you are enough. Your value is not determined by the things in your life, or the activities that you do. You are enough as you are, no matter what is happening in your life.

Hi,
It's Brooks and it's good to be here with you.
Today we're gonna take a deeper look at clutter and I think this is really an important one because even if you understand clutter busting,
Even if you understand that clutter is anything that no longer serves you,
Even if you ask about a particular thing or activity or particular relationship and you realize,
Oh this doesn't serve me,
But then you still can't let it go,
There's something really deep going on there and that's what we're gonna take a closer look at today because that does happen.
It happens often and it can be very confusing like I don't understand.
There's this thing and it's pretty clear to me that it doesn't serve me but I can't let it go and then oftentimes what we do is we come down on ourselves,
There's something wrong with me,
I should be able to do this and I'm not so I'm bad,
You know basically.
It's like we punish ourselves for being in pain,
You know,
And the thing is it's not our fault.
We've been trained to put things on a pedestal above ourselves,
You know,
We've been trained that things are more important than us and that our value is dependent on the people,
The stuff and the activities that we do in our life and so we become secondary and we suffer and essentially we become the pedestal that we put everything on and it takes a heavy toll on us and helps to recognize that it happens to all of us.
I recognize it in myself at times like wow this thing is whatever it is and it's still there and I'm not enjoying it and what I usually do is go okay that's what's going on,
You know,
I've been trained to think this way of course,
Of course that's what's happening and as you start to notice that as you start to accept I've been trained to be this way,
I've been hypnotized in a sense to be a pedestal for my stuff,
To put my stuff above myself,
The more you start to recognize that belief,
That way of living,
It starts to fall apart,
It starts to lose its legs and you start to become important again and it helps,
It really helps to be curious and open to that rather than go there's something wrong with me,
What am I doing wrong,
Did I ask the question wrong,
Like do I like and use this or not,
Did I ask that wrong,
You know,
It's not that,
It's really,
It's noticing what's happening with curious eyes,
With kind eyes and then starting to say I'm what's important in my life and the things in my life have to prove their worth to me or they go.
It's really powerful,
It's a really powerful way of thinking and quite a reversal,
You know,
And it it's quite,
It's a beautiful,
Loving,
Caring gesture to do that,
It's a real powerful way to love yourself.
You have to prove that you support my life or you're going and it's our right to do that.
We're built that way essentially,
You know,
If we touch something,
If we put our hand in the fire for a second and we pull it away because it hurts,
So that's built into us,
This hurts,
I'm going to move away from that and by my talking about it like this it gives you and it gives me too permission to start to value ourselves,
To start to value ourselves more than our stuff and everything changes when you do that.
Life becomes a lot simpler and a lot easier and the suffering drops away.
So what happens before that is if we're suffering because we're living as a pedestal to our stuff then because we're trained to get something new,
To bring something into our lives as a distraction,
You know,
To make ourselves feel better because we're suffering as a pedestal,
We often go and get more stuff,
You know,
I just need to start doing this,
I need to buy this,
You know,
Whatever it is,
Fill in the blank and it just adds to the weight of stuff on you as the pedestal.
But again by noticing this,
By compassionately noticing that that's how we've been trained,
Then things start to spontaneously and naturally reverse.
Life in its essence is there's a healing energy that's built into life and once we start to open up to it it starts to heal us and we don't have to do the work,
The work comes to us through intuition or we just find ourselves doing something differently because of the intelligence built into the healing.
And again that comes from noticing this is the way I'm living,
I've been trained to live this way,
To put things as more important than me,
To value myself by the things I have in my life that I do,
The people in my life and I'm not happy as a result of that.
And the healing starts to happen from that.
We don't have to think how am I gonna heal myself.
Just by noticing by being open the healing starts to happen and just by hearing me talk about this I mean I repeat this message a lot because we have to hear it a lot for the change to happen because we've had so many messages to the contrary.
You know so many messages.
Any commercial that you see is basically there's something wrong with you,
You need this.
Oh yeah you really need this.
When you get this everything's gonna be okay again.
It can be a product,
It can be a service,
It can be you know some kind of style.
It could even be spiritual.
Oh when you start doing this meditation you're gonna be great.
You know if you just do this particular spiritual technique then everything's gonna be okay again.
I mean it can get that subtle you know.
If you can just be more compassionate then everything is gonna be okay you know.
Or just more loving than everything's gonna be okay.
And it's really like outside voices you know.
We've become reliant on outside voices to figure out,
To know what to do.
And this is all about recognizing that your voice is primary and what you feel is most important.
And if something hurts you,
You get to remove it from your life.
And then your life becomes a lot simpler and a lot kinder you know.
A lot more wonderful.
Doesn't mean it's a life without pain because pain is part of life.
Pain happens.
Life is a pendulum swing from pain to pleasure.
Sometimes more pain,
Sometimes more pleasure,
Sometimes more pleasure,
Sometimes more pain.
But it goes back and forth.
And the marketing has taught us that if there's pain then you got to get something.
But with this new way of looking at things,
Pain happens.
There's pain.
Maybe your back hurts.
Maybe you have a headache.
Maybe you're tired.
Maybe someone was mean to you.
Maybe something you've been working on broke you know.
You know things happen.
But then you start to recognize,
Okay that happened.
It's not the rest of my life.
So what?
At some point something pleasurable will come along.
You'll enjoy that.
And then at some point something painful will come along.
That'll hurt and then that'll go away.
There's an acceptance of the flow of life when we start to make ourselves primary.
And oftentimes the pain becomes shorter.
Because we accept that that's the pain that's happening right now.
So I said a lot of different things.
And the best thing is to like let it sink in.
It sinks in at its own rate and speed.
And it goes into your heart.
You know we don't have to remember all this stuff.
It sinks in in its own kind way.
And life takes care of it.
Life takes care of you.
And you become reconnected.
It's basically getting your life back.
So it was good spending this time with you and I wish you the best.
And if you want to join me on Wednesdays at 2 o'clock Pacific or 5 o'clock Eastern we'll be having a live clutter busting talks on Inside Timer.
And you can bring up any kind of clutter busting questions or you can listen to other people's sharing about their life.
It's a very supportive group.
Take care.
Bye.

Sometimes synchronicity brings you exactly what you need. I didn’t realize the depth of my hurt today until I sat to listen. As a writer and a thinker, whose favorite question is “what if...?”, I never applied it to my own life. Thank you for this beautiful, simple place.
