This guided meditation is best experienced by sitting comfortably in a chair,
Feet flat on the floor,
Arms relaxed,
Hands resting comfortably in your lap.
This posture is important because we are symbolically creating space to be with whatever is happening for you.
That has brought you to this moment of welcoming acceptance.
In this moment,
Seated and relaxed,
There is space in your lap to hold what is.
Moving into a state of acceptance is a shift in our perspective of control.
It is a shift from thinking that something is happening to us as opposed to realizing that something is just happening.
It is normal to want to control something that is causing us pain or suffering.
And yet,
So often these things are not within our control.
So how do we find peace?
How do we cross the gap from suffering to acceptance?
We use the power of choice.
We engage our power to choose.
We have a choice in how we experience what is happening.
And in this moment,
The choice being offered to you is to simply allow.
In this moment,
You are owning your power to choose by choosing to create space to just be with what is.
And that's where the true power and control sits.
It sits in that,
In the act of choosing to be with what is,
Not in the illusion of having control over what is.
And as you shift into acceptance,
It's important to understand what acceptance isn't.
Acceptance isn't about trying to like what is happening.
It isn't about making it okay.
And it isn't about trying to convince yourself that there's a reason or a higher purpose for what is happening.
It isn't even about trying to convince yourself that something good will come out of what is happening.
And acceptance isn't about changing anything.
Acceptance is about honoring how you feel about what is happening.
It is allowing what is to be present with you,
Fully and completely,
In this moment,
Without trying to change it,
Without trying to change how you feel about it.
So let's begin with the breath.
The most natural place to begin.
Breathing deeply.
Noticing each inhale.
Being fully present with each exhale.
Letting the body to relax.
Feeling it becoming heavy.
Shoulders drop.
Hips sink into the chair beneath you.
Feel your thighs let go.
On your next inhale,
Curl your toes.
Hold that breath and those toes tight just for a moment.
And then relax,
Releasing the toes as you exhale.
And now allow your breathing to settle into a deep and natural rhythm.
Eyes are closed.
Feel the jaw relax.
Allow yourself a sense of peace.
And now gently bring to mind the situation that you wish to hold in acceptance.
Be kind to yourself as you allow the image and emotions of this situation to come fully present into your awareness.
And as you hold that vision of this person,
Thing or situation,
Imagine that you can wrap that vision in a bubble of peace.
And if it feels good,
Allow your hands to move and encapsulate this vision in a beautiful bubble of peace.
And then imagine holding that bubble lightly in your lap.
You are completely supported by the chair beneath you and you are safe.
Breathing easily.
Simply allowing the bubble of peace,
Holding the person or situation within this bubble,
Allowing it to rest lightly in your lap as you simply breathe.
Notice any tension that may be creeping into your body.
Just notice.
And as you hold this situation in your lap,
Remind yourself that there is nothing to do,
Nothing to change and nothing to fix.
All that is required of you is to breathe.
Just sitting,
Content to just notice this situation,
Holding it lightly in the lap of your awareness.
And here is the power of this moment.
That this situation,
Held by the loving act of your noticing,
You being with what is,
Feeling what you feel about what is.
This is what heals you.
This is acceptance.
And as you breathe,
A new awareness of acceptance.
A new awareness that there is nothing to be fixed.
Notice that the bubble of peace in your lap begins to glow.
It glows because it is honored by your presence.
This situation glows because it is honored by your noticing.
It is honored by being lovingly held exactly as it is.
With each breath,
The situation glowing a little brighter,
Held in this moment in your gentle loving awareness,
Cradled in the lap of your willingness to allow this person or situation to just be in the lap of your presence,
To just be in your acceptance.
And if it is just for this moment,
This moment is pure acceptance.
It is a practice and you have begun.
Beautifully you have created space and welcomed acceptance.
And if it is just for this moment,
This moment is pure acceptance.
