
Preparing For Important Conversations
A guided visualization designed to create a relaxed and peaceful state of mind in preparation for having an important, possibly difficult, conversation. May this session help you feel grounded, empowered, and supported.
Transcript
This visualization is designed as an opportunity for you to envision a difficult conversation going well.
It's designed to support your ability to remain calm,
Confident,
And fully present during those crucial conversations that are such an important part of life.
To get the most out of this visualization,
It's best if you are in a seated position,
Relaxed but completely alert.
And so let's begin.
Settle comfortably.
Begin to bring your attention inward.
Gently noticing any tension or discomfort.
Allow yourself to shift if you need to.
Slowly beginning to feel your energy settle.
Coming fully present into this moment.
As you begin to relax.
Allow your body to become heavy.
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your neck soften.
Feel your face relax.
Nice easy breaths.
See if you can deepen each breath just a little bit.
Exhaling a little more completely each time.
Curl your fingers into your palms and relax.
Allow the heavy muscles of the thighs to let go.
Curl your toes and feet and release.
And as you notice your body and your breath easily sliding into stillness.
Begin to bring your breath into your mind.
Imagine that each breath is a soft breeze,
Gently blowing away any random thoughts.
Each breath gently soothing any tension or worry.
Allowing them to drift away like clouds on a summer breeze.
Gliding across a soft blue sky.
And now with your body relaxed,
Your mind quiet and still.
Allow yourself to bring to mind the person with whom you'd like to have an important conversation.
Just imagine them seated before you.
If you notice any tension or stress arising,
That's okay.
Perfectly normal.
Just breathe.
Allowing that person's image to sit quietly before you.
See if you can just sit with them for a moment.
Not speaking.
Mind and body relaxed.
Taking nice easy deep breaths.
And when you feel that you can sit with the image of this person relaxed and at peace,
Even if it's just a tiny bit of peace.
Imagine this person is also relaxed.
Notice their soft eye contact and open body language.
See a softness and a kindness to their face.
Breathe.
Nice easy breaths.
Allowing any random thoughts or emotions to move gently in and out with each breath.
Notice how grounded and centered you feel.
Really sink into that feeling.
Knowing that you can call upon this sensation at any time,
Anywhere,
Just by breathing deeply and bringing to mind this visualization.
With your next breath,
See yourself and this person sitting in front of each other.
Notice that the energy around you is calm.
Both of you appear relaxed and open.
Now see yourself speaking.
You don't have to speak aloud or even form sentences in your mind.
Just watch yourself speaking as if you're on television with the audio muted.
Notice that you are calm,
Speaking confidently.
Your face is animated and relaxed.
Now notice the other person listening intently,
Calmly,
Nodding occasionally.
Still breathing naturally and easily.
Just watching the scene before you.
Notice the other person begin to speak.
See yourself listening,
Nodding.
Both of you still relaxed,
Body language open and soft.
Perhaps each of you pauses and noticeably takes a breath.
As much as possible,
Allow the scene before you to feel good.
Not perfect or easy,
But real and good.
And now see where in your body you can feel,
You can physically sense the positive flow of this conversation.
As this conversation goes well,
Where in your body do you feel that?
And if you only notice that you may have tensed,
That's okay.
Your breath is your anchor to calm.
Take a deep inhale and send that breath through your body,
Making a conscious decision to let go and relax.
Breathe.
See if you can feel that part of your body that will feel good as this conversation goes well.
This is where your power and confidence sit.
Breathing into that space in your body is how you ground your ability to have the real conversation from a place of strength.
Return your attention to the conversation seen before you.
Again,
Seeing if you can allow yourself to physically feel positive energy.
Allowing for the possibility that each of you speak openly,
Listen deeply.
Both of you creating space for the conversation to be positive.
Meaningful.
Perhaps even transformative.
Breathing deeply,
Gently clear your mind and hold that open space for possibility.
The best possible outcome.
Take a nice deep breath.
Exhale completely.
Imagine your mind like the depths of the sea.
Quiet and dark.
Know that regardless of the outcome of the conversation,
Even if you decide the best course of action is to not have the conversation,
Each time you practice this visualization,
You emerge stronger,
More confident in your ability to engage in these important conversations from a calm and centered presence.
Taking another deep breath.
Exhale on a sigh.
Really allow yourself to open your mouth wide and sigh aloud.
Make some noise as you exhale any old stale air.
And finally,
Taking one last deep breath.
Exhale as you stretch your arms up over your head,
Moving that stretch all the way through the body.
Coming fully present into the room.
Feeling grounded and confident.
