Hello and welcome to day four of Embodied Birth,
Nurtured Mama.
Today we're going to briefly talk about the importance of stillness.
How often do you hear from a woman in her pregnancy say,
Oh,
I was active the whole time I was pregnant and it's thought of as a great thing,
Which is wonderful,
But how often do you hear someone say,
I was still,
I was in bed most of my pregnancy,
Or I was really at home throughout a lot of my pregnancy,
I was so quiet and still.
How often do we hear that in a positive light?
We hear that more often,
Most often,
In a negative light.
Part of this is because we live in a society that over-glorifies doing,
Acting,
Getting things done,
And rarely do we offer praise or credit or acknowledge the importance of being still.
I recall there was a time in my life,
Not that long ago,
Where I was actively looking for work and I was doing,
Doing,
Doing,
And nothing was coming back.
So finally I said,
Okay,
Universe,
I'm going to just stop.
I'm going to stay still.
And instead of cranking out resumes and reconnecting with old contacts,
I focused on me.
I started to go to yoga class almost seven days a week.
I would meditate every day and I didn't think all that much about the future.
I started just practicing gratitude for everything that was currently in my life.
And in a very short amount of time,
Things that I could not ever have imagined or put together myself started to come to me.
Offers and things that truly were beyond what I had dreamed of,
Bigger than what I could have dreamed of.
So I tell this as a reminder of the value,
The deep value that lies in being still and let it also serve as a reminder that in pregnancy,
If we're desiring being still,
Sometimes we might not be,
We might be uncomfortable with stillness,
But yet we're being called into it.
Instead of resisting it,
Instead of trying to do more,
Be more,
Figure things out more,
Go ahead and give yourself permission to be still.
So let's go ahead and we're going to just do a short meditation and practice being still,
Practice feeling the stillness.
So go ahead and close your eyes.
Come into the moment,
Start to notice your inner world.
Start to become aware of what's true for you in this moment.
Are you tired?
Are you thinking about yesterday or tomorrow?
Go ahead and give yourself permission to put everything on the shelf for just a short while.
As you start to deepen your breath,
Begin to follow your breath and its own rhythm.
And then notice your stomach,
Is it pulled up?
Is it pulled in?
Go ahead and just let your stomach out.
Repeat.
And in the stillness,
Go ahead and imagine a winter afternoon.
There are no cars on the street.
Everyone is in their home.
And outside,
The snow is falling.
Softly,
Silently.
And in this silence,
You experience a deep peace.
In this stillness.
You find you are wanting for nothing,
That this moment is perfect.
As you look around,
The snow piling up on the trees around you.
There's no noise in the air.
Only whiteness.
And snow silently falling.
As you sit in the snow,
Go ahead and lift your face up just slightly,
Lift your chin.
And know that the energy that created this also created you.
Source energy,
Whatever you prefer.
God,
Something bigger than yourself.
Without you doing a whole lot of work,
A life was created inside of you.
And you don't have to tell it what to do or how to grow,
That nature does it just perfectly.
And in nature,
Nothing is hurried.
Nothing is rushed.
Yet everything gets done in its own perfect timing.
So go ahead and look to Mother Nature to be your model,
To slow down and to allow yourself to come into the cycles of your life,
To embody them fully and be present.
And know that it is in stillness.
It is in caring for yourself.
It is in nurturing for yourself that everything can come to you.
We live in a vibrational universe.
And as you care for yourself,
As you feel good,
As you enjoy the peace of your own being,
So too will you draw more to yourself.
If you have more time,
Feel free to go ahead and stay in this meditation.
And if you're ready,
Go ahead and open your eyes on your own time.
But when you do,
Do so with awareness.
Do so without rushing out into your tasks,
Even if it's only 30 seconds or a minute.
Let yourself come out slowly and come out knowing that there is nothing you cannot do in peace,
That all can be done in peace.
Thank you for joining us and we'll see you again tomorrow.
Namaste.
