Chronically Chill Self-Care presents Affirmations for Activists This meditation was inspired by an interview between Stella Bugbee of The Cut and activist Brittany Packnett.
Brittany's discussion of love driving her activism really brought me home.
I got my start as a queer activist and pushed my body to exhaustion because I didn't really understand what self-care meant.
Brittany's wisdom is clear and grounded,
And because of that,
Many statements used in this meditation are either direct quotes or paraphrased from the interview.
This is a free meditation on all platforms,
So send it to your friends who might need a little extra grounding motivation.
If you feel inspired,
I highly encourage you to make a donation to the Equal Justice Initiative at eji.

This is an affirmation-style meditation.
You may wish to repeat each phrase silently in your mind,
Though I recommend you speak each phrase out loud,
Powerfully,
With emphasis from deep in your belly.
Take a breath between each phrase and allow the vibration of your words to sink into your skin.
Feel yourself growing stronger and more committed.
Wherever you are,
Take a breath deep into your belly and exhale slowly.
Now begin to repeat each phrase after me.
I see my community.
I see our strengths and weaknesses.
I am uniquely positioned to understand our collective struggle.
I feel connected to my community and I know I am an important part of our wellness.
I feel loved and accepted for exactly who I am.
And because of that,
I use my privilege to guide us forward.
I work in alliance with those who are close to me.
And I see the solutions to the problems that impact our lives.
No matter how small,
I know I make a difference in the lives of people around me.
My voice is strong and unwavering.
What I have to say is important because it's a reflection of our truth,
Our lived experiences.
I speak our truth out loud even when it is inconvenient.
I speak the truth into quiet moments.
I speak exactly where I am because activism isn't always public.
My voice is a tool and I feel motivated to use it.
I bear witness to what is happening in my community even when it is hard.
I am not afraid of my difficult emotions.
I feel my grief and I let it run through me.
I am not weighed down.
My rage and anger are righteous because they're based in love.
The love I feel for my community fills me and flows over into my activism.
I create a world that reflects my values and worth.
Joy is a revolutionary act so I carry it with me.
I celebrate life and I find reasons to laugh.
My ability to create a new world is in direct proportion to my ability to love.
My worth is not dependent on my productivity but on the ways I care for those around me.
This includes myself.
I use the small moments of my life to find peace and calm within.
I do not run myself ragged in the name of justice but build myself up.
I am a warrior with the view of the long game.
I know that to survive this world I must survive myself.
I eat a balanced diet including foods that make me feel both good and joyful.
I use my body as a tool and incorporate movement to stay focused.
I manage my time efficiently and effectively to avoid burning out.
I take care of myself luxuriously because I know my value.
I take the time to connect with my community so I understand the importance of the work I'm doing.
Together we create beauty and find ways to laugh at ourselves.
I am surrounded by a community that loves me.
When I do not have the resources to continue my community lifts me up.
I accept their generosity with gratitude.
I continue to work hard to do what it takes to thrive.
I am a warrior with the view of the long game.
I am a warrior with the view of the long game.
I am surrounded by a community that loves me.
