Hello there,
It's Christanne Zarewski,
Your body intelligence coach.
I'm so glad you're here.
We're here to check in with your body,
To notice what's happening inside of us and through us.
To get curious and hopefully play as we explore what's already there.
Today we're focusing on our hands,
The parts of our body that touch,
That hold,
That create,
And that connect us to the world.
The goal is simple,
Just to notice how they feel,
How they move,
And perhaps how they connect us to different parts of ourselves.
There's nothing to get right.
You might notice tension or relaxation or even an enjoyment for the playful movement.
And that's the fun of exploration.
You really won't know until you try.
So let's begin.
I invite you to first bring your attention to your hands.
Don't do anything new.
Just notice how they are when they are naturally at rest.
Look down at them.
Observe their shape.
Is there one resting gently on top of the other?
Are your hands interlaced and neatly in your lap?
Are they on top of a desk or the chair arms perhaps?
Are they dangling down at your side?
Are your fingers splayed?
Are your hands making balled up fists?
What do your hands like to do when you didn't give them a thought?
Their natural resting state.
Perhaps they're even tucked up close to your body,
Tidily and warmly,
Under your armpits.
Whatever you do is completely fine.
Today,
We're just observing.
Next,
I'm going to invite you to feel something a little bit deeper.
Can you notice the pulse of your circulation beating in your hands and your fingertips?
If you pay attention,
Can you notice that subtle shift happening inside of you?
Now that might be hard if you've never practiced this before.
So,
Let's try rubbing our hands together.
Pretend you're outside on a cold day.
And rub,
Rub,
Rub,
Rub,
Rub for 5,
4,
3,
2,
1.
Now stop and slowly separate them until they're about a half an inch to an inch apart.
Can you feel anything between them?
Almost like an energetic pull or an electricity.
The heat that you've generated from the skin-to-skin and the friction.
Does it feel like pulsating?
Like prickling?
Like throbbing?
Like tingling?
The more precise you can be with your description,
The deeper this work can go.
We are looking for nuances in body intelligence.
Subtle differences that happen inside of us and around us.
Can you notice a temperature shift?
Is there more ease or more stiffness as you play?
Does your hand want to naturally close up when you're done?
Or did it enjoy holding that space and feeling that friction?
Now,
Let's explore a little bit more.
I'm going to invite you to put your hands into a clenched fist.
You know your body.
Please respect its limits.
If you have no pain,
Clench your fist as hard as you can and hold for 5,
4,
3,
2,
1 and release.
Can you feel that rush of blood flow to your hands after it had been cut off?
Almost like a hose with a kink in it and then you release it and all the water goes through.
Did it feel like throbbing or pulsing?
Or like an aliveness in your hands you had not noticed before?
Does it feel like the numb pricklies you get when your hand falls asleep?
What do you notice as we shift from one seat to another?
Contrast.
Did you enjoy that exercise?
Or is your body telling you,
This is dumb,
Why are we wasting our time?
Do you notice any chatter?
Any resistance?
Are you enjoying the play?
Simply notice without judgment and without story.
Notice what shape your hand wants to go back to once you've released.
Does it like to be open?
Does it like to be closed up?
Does it feel clenched?
Does it feel relaxed?
Now let's add a bit more movement.
This time we're going to do the opposite and stretch our fingers like a big star.
Stretch,
Stretch,
Stretch.
Five,
Four,
Three,
Two,
One.
And relax.
What did you notice that time?
Very different than the constriction.
Can you notice the prickly of the skin being pulled?
The stretching in the tendons?
Are there parts of your hand that you felt more than others?
Are there parts of your hand you didn't feel?
Perhaps the back of your hand?
What do you notice?
Now let's give them a fun little shake.
Shake,
Shake,
Shake,
Shake,
Shake.
As we flick more blood flow into our hands and they just get like wet,
Loose noodles.
Notice.
Were you able to release into that shake and not hold?
Or were you a little bit clenched and controlled in the shake?
What do you notice?
What's your tendency?
Let's add another little movement.
Can you drum your fingers on the table?
That requires starting at your pinky and moving to your ring finger,
Your middle finger,
Your index and your thumb.
Your fingers like that rhythmic motion.
Does it feel better the longer you do it?
This is annoying.
Is this a natural motion for your hands?
Does it require thinking and effort?
Does it get you into a bit of a trance state with the rhythm?
Does it feel contrary to your natural state?
Simply notice.
Now let's try another sensation.
I invite you to take both your hands and place one on each cheek as if someone was holding your face.
How does your body respond to this?
How does your face change?
Does your face relax and feel soothed?
Does it feel warm and loving?
Or does it feel like discomfort?
Maybe a bit of tension,
Like this is unnatural or a waste of time.
Do you notice that your hands are craving productivity?
Do they crave to fidget and to move?
Do they want playful movement or productive output?
Or do they crave rest and relaxation?
What do you notice happening in these life-giving hands of yours?
No judgment,
No story.
As you notice this,
Is anything happening inside of you?
Has your breath shifted?
Has your face softened or hardened?
Have your shoulders relaxed or gotten more tense?
Can you notice the trickle effect of being present and how it affects the rest of your body?
Are any emotions coming up?
Is there anything related to the sensation or the energy or the movement or the natural rhythm?
Again,
No analysis,
No right answer.
We are simply gathering information,
Noticing what's stiff or soft or playful or expressive,
And discovering how our body communicates.
With that said,
Today was an experiment of body intelligence.
As we collect more and more information,
The closer attention you pay,
The more your body can give you guidance and help to move you forward.
Today was about noticing,
Reflecting,
And playing.
And I invite you to imagine what more can be possible with regular attention placed on your body.
And please,
Please don't forget to play.
We go through healing journeys and self-awareness with this very serious hat on a lot of the time.
But life doesn't have to be so hard.
I invite you to explore,
To experiment,
And to play with shapes and contrasts to see what your body is telling you and perhaps what messages it has in store for you.
I'm so glad you landed here.
I hope you found one thing you can carry forward into the rest of your day.
Thank you.
