Namaste.
Hello,
My name is Christine and in today's session we will be exploring mindfulness and how we can apply this in our everyday life.
One of the dictionary definitions of mindfulness is,
A mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment or calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings,
Thoughts and bodily sensations.
This is something we can apply to any activity we are completing.
It is the application of the mind,
Taking notice of what we are doing in the present moment.
And sometimes we can become quite busy multitasking or having competing demands.
We forget to just embrace each moment as it comes.
The aim of this session is to help guide you in thinking about what you're doing while you're completing everyday activities and just to become a little bit more mindful of them also.
To do this,
I'd like to invite you to join with me as we practice being mindful over making and then having a cuppa.
The word cuppa is Australian slang for having a cup of tea or coffee or another hot beverage.
Please ensure that in the making and drinking of this it is not scalding hot.
So while you're listening to this track,
I'd like you to do the following.
Put on your kettle or jug to boil.
Get out what you need to make the hot drink or cuppa with.
Your mug or cup,
Tea bag,
Tea leaves or teapot,
Coffee or coffee pot,
Hot chocolate,
Your sweetener that you use,
Spoon and when you need it your milk or your creamer out of the fridge ready.
Now as we wait for the kettle or jug to boil,
I'd like you to think about your mug or coffee cup that you're using.
Is it your favourite?
What does it look like?
Is this particular mug or cup important to you?
Do you have any memories that are associated with this?
Do you heat up your cup or teacup or teapot before you use them?
If so,
Who did you learn this from?
What memories do you have of them?
If you're using a teapot or coffee pot,
Now is the time to pour in your hot water and let it steep.
If you're needing to let it rest a little while,
Please press pause until it's ready.
Once the tea or coffee is ready or the kettle is boiled,
Pour in the hot water into your mug,
Add in your tea if you needed to or your coffee and watch the steam come up from the mug or the cup that it's in.
What colour is it?
Do you use milk or creamer?
Has the colour changed in any way now?
Do you use a sweetener?
When your mug or cup is cool enough to sip from,
What does it taste like?
What memories come back to you with this taste?
Notice the warmth on your hand or your hands as you hold the cup or mug.
Notice how the steam feels against your nose as you sip from it.
Over the next two minutes I'm going to play some soft nature sounds while you focus on the warmth of the mug,
How the beverage tastes and the steam on your nose or skin and the sensation you have in swallowing this.
Gentle,
Neutral,
Yea,
Yea.
And how your mug feels in your hands?
It's warm how does it taste when you drink this big rich?
What are the sensations you feel as the stems on your nose and your skin?
What does it feel like when you swallow it?
What does it feel like when you swallow it?
What does it feel like when you swallow it?
Thank you for joining me in putting mindfulness into practice I'm hoping as you continue your day you are able to apply this practice to other areas of your daily life Namaste
