Sleep Simply: A Rest Routine For Deep Relaxation

Now is the time for rest. Follow my simple guidance to help you slow down the momentum of the day, release tension in the body, and settle into sleep. We begin with a few relaxing breaths and gradually drift into the deep ocean of restful energy.

Welcome.

Now is the time for rest.

If you like,

You might take a couple deep inhales and exhales,

As deep as you like,

Maybe noticing the momentum of the day,

Breathing in and feeling all the energy that you're carrying,

And breathing out the opportunity to release it from the body,

Each release dropping a little bit more deeply into just this moment,

This time for rest,

To care for your body and your mind by letting yourself slow down,

Release whatever it's holding on to,

And just merge into the moment.

A few more deep inhales and exhales,

Really exaggerating it if you like.

On the inhale,

You could even intensify whatever tension is here,

Allowing it to increase on the inhale,

Maybe even tensing your entire body,

Your entire being,

And then on the exhale,

Letting it all go,

However the body can,

Maybe feeling into the force of gravity and letting it do whatever it wants,

Possibly releasing tension in the jaw,

In the shoulders,

Stomach,

The hands,

The arms,

The waist,

The genitals,

Your entire body,

Letting it flow with gravity,

Pulled toward the ground,

And then feeling completely supported,

Letting yourself fall apart completely,

And simultaneously being held.

And if you're still with me,

Of course it's okay to let yourself drift.

If you're still with me,

You can become aware maybe of the area of the eyes and notice if there's any tension here,

Anything holding on,

And of course if you haven't already,

You can allow the eyes to close and possibly release any tension that's here,

Anything that might be squinting or flexing,

A chance for the eyes to relax,

Feeling all the muscles of the eyes,

In front of the eyes,

Behind the eyes,

Inside the eyes,

Softening,

Releasing,

And just letting go.

You might become aware of vision behind closed eyes,

Not looking at anything,

Not needing to do anything,

But just experiencing vision with eyes closed.

And you might now shift to experiencing hearing,

Just experiencing the sense of sound without interpreting it,

Just feeling the vibration of sound,

Letting go of labels of what you hear,

And letting it all happen just like a song,

Inviting the song in and feeling it.

You might even let the sound of my voice be just sound,

Part of this song,

Letting it be just vibration,

Not even needing to follow what I say,

But just letting it be sound and feeling yourself merge into the energy of all of this,

Beyond you,

Beyond the story of you,

Just all of this energy,

Letting yourself be energy,

Merging with gravity,

With the surface beneath you,

With the air around you,

Just being this energy.

And you might feel through the body and notice if there's any area or areas of dense energy or contracted energy,

Anything that is tight or holding on,

And seeing if the body knows how to release and soften and let go,

Like a wave that is returning into the vast ocean,

Maybe in your jaw,

Your nose,

Your forehead,

Your scalp,

Your brain,

Softening,

Releasing,

And letting go,

Letting this energy drop down through the rest of your body,

Like water expanding in your neck and your shoulders,

All through your arms and into your hands and your fingertips,

Releasing,

Letting go of whatever is holding on,

Feeling this move through your chest and your stomach,

Your hips,

Your glutes,

Your groin,

Your genitals,

Anything tense,

Tight,

Even just subtly tight,

And allowing it to release,

Moving down through your legs,

Your thighs,

Your knees,

Your calves,

Your shins,

All through your feet and your toes,

And just your entire being,

Letting go of holding yourself together and returning to the original vast energy.

Every exhale,

Another chance to release and let go and soften,

Even just a little bit more subtly,

Just looking through the body,

Continually noticing whatever might just slightly be still holding on,

And keep letting go just a little bit more,

A little bit more,

And let's just be together in silence.

You can still feel my energy if you like,

Or just let go completely,

Being energy,

Just pure sensation.

You can notice if anything keeps tightening back up,

And that is okay.

It's just another opportunity to release,

Releasing,

Releasing,

And releasing again.

And if that tension is in the mind,

If it's made of thoughts,

Could imagine a nightstand next to you,

And possibly noticing these thoughts,

Or these worries,

Or these plans,

And placing them in a jar on this nightstand,

You will come back to them.

But now is the time just for rest,

Coming back to the body and the breath,

And maybe letting go of the label breath,

Or breathing,

And just feeling what it is that we call breathing,

Letting it happen,

Feeling into your entire being,

And maybe letting go of the label of your name,

Or your particular identities,

Just for now,

And feeling whatever it is you refer to by your name,

Just this energy,

Letting yourself be,

Letting the wave return to the vast ocean,

A still,

Calm,

Deep ocean of energy.

And if you're still here with me,

You could start back over if you like,

Or just allow yourself to be in silence,

Or really just to be silence.
