Welcome,
Take a moment to adjust your body and become comfortable where you're seated.
Allow your spine to begin to move side to side,
Feel your spine where it connects at your sacrum all the way up to where it holds your skull.
As you let it move side to side,
Breathe in deeply and breathe out fully,
Moving your spine like a snake and the letter S from side to side ever so gently,
Focusing on movement coming all the way down from the seat and that low back where your spine may be the stiffest up through your thoracic spine all the way to your neck,
Remembering that your spine is one long unit,
Allowing it to flow side to side as you breathe deeply.
The more years we spend on the earth,
The less we begin to move our spine.
With intention today,
Enjoying this movement,
It's not one that we do often in our daily lives.
Allow the flow of movement side to side to nourish your body,
To awaken the nerves in your spinal column,
To lubricate the joints of your spine and to help ground and bring you into a peaceful place.
Make your movements now just a little bit bigger,
Exaggerating the S curve from side to side,
Feeling it from the base of your spine where it meets your hips all the way up to allowing your head and your neck to move side to side,
Beginning our process of cultivating peace and calm in the storm.
Through this process of connecting our mind,
Our body and our spirit through movement,
Allow the movement to become smaller and smaller now until you come to a still point.
Breathing in,
Feeling the energy that's been generated through this practice so far.
In your mind's eye,
I'd like you to see roots moving down into the earth,
Growing out of the bottom of your feet,
Pushing through the floor,
Through the building,
Into the soil,
Through the clay and the many layers of the earth,
Spreading out as roots do,
Pulling you and grounding you down,
Reminding you that you are an earthly being,
Helping you to become strong and stable.
In your mind's eye,
I'd like you to imagine the storm that's happening around you.
This might be a physical storm with wind,
Rain,
Snow,
Sand,
And it might be a metaphorical storm,
The things that are happening in your life right now that feel like chaos.
In either case,
Visualize in your mind that there's air moving around your body,
But it's not touching you,
It's as if you are protected because you are in the eye of this storm.
You can sense the wind,
You can hear it,
Maybe you can see it or smell it,
But you're not affected by this chaos,
This storm,
Because you are calm and grounded right where you are in the eye,
Breathing deeply,
Feeling your roots,
Connecting to your breath.
Remember that you are not your thoughts,
You are not your emotions.
You are an earthly,
Spiritual being made up of peace and presence,
Able to generate calm,
Connection and grounding,
No matter what storm is raging around you.
If you so choose,
You can say to yourself,
I am calm in the eye of the storm.
As you breathe in and breathe out,
Feel your roots keeping you strong.
Feel your heart center,
The place of peace,
The place of knowing who you are,
That you are not the storm,
That you get to choose how it affects you and how you respond.
Continue to see the storm in your mind's eye and see yourself in the middle,
Peaceful,
Centered,
Free from any challenges that the chaos around you may want to suck you into.
I am calm in the eye of the storm.
I am grounded and rooted strong like a tree.
I can cultivate peace,
Calmness and connection anytime I need to.
I do so now.
I remember that I am not the chaos.
I am not the thoughts.
I am not emotion.
I am grounded here,
Strong in my space,
Allowing the war to wage around me,
But not touch me.
Breathing in this space for another minute or so,
Long,
Deep inhales,
Calm,
Easy,
Full exhales,
Present with the calm that is you,
Peaceful in the eye of the storm.
Take this peace with you as you go out into your day,
Into the challenges of your world and remember that you are calm,
You are peace in the eye of the storm.
