Where do thoughts come from? Where do they go? This meditation invites you to explore the nature of your thoughts and to see them as empty. Seeing thoughts as they truly are can lead to a broader, more spacious, and more liberated way of being.

So sitting up straight,

Pushing the crown of the head up towards the ceiling,

And then starting to settle in.

Okay,

Why don't we just do a few deep breaths.

So go ahead and just do a few deep breaths at your own pace.

Good.

And now,

Imagine all the Buddhas and ancestors,

All the saints and sages gathered before you.

Now get this quality of,

You know,

This kind of quality of expansive mystery.

Completely opening up,

And that there's something beyond yourself,

Something mystical open.

Now make it,

And now see how all the saints and sages,

Buddhas and ancestors look on you smiling.

They see the work you're doing,

And they're gonna help you.

Now generate this tremendous sense of confidence and support.

Now kind of have this symbolic,

Bring up this symbolic understanding of the meditation,

Or even of the whole path,

And just see yourself doing it just beautifully.

Extremely profound meditative states.

Full realization,

Full Buddhahood,

And now see that.

Now,

Once again,

Touch into this tremendous confidence,

And confidence in your awakening,

And that your awakening will come,

And that others will benefit.

And see this outflowing kind of grace waves,

Generosity,

Going out to others.

And now also reflect,

There's nothing I can do.

I totally surrender,

Come what may.

And now,

About three minutes,

Just do a practice to help you get absorbed.

Whatever practice comes easily.

All right,

Keep going.

There you're pretty absorbed and settled.

Okay,

I'll take that as a yes.

So now,

Look at thoughts.

And here we can do kind of a more of a self-inquiry based,

Cutting through practice.

Thoughts,

Thoughts,

Bring up thoughts.

Like intentionally bring them up.

And then every thought,

To whom does this arise?

I,

Who am I?

Keep going with that,

Thoughts.

You're bringing up thoughts.

Yes.

Now see what thoughts are made out of.

What are thoughts made of?

Go ahead,

Go ahead.

Go ahead.

Feeling and sounds.

Right,

Right.

And what are image feelings and sound made of?

If you can hold the mind on that question for just a minute there.

And then you can answer.

I'll just ask the question again.

Just contemplate it for another minute.

What are image,

Sound,

Sensations,

Feelings,

Hearing made of?

So what's coming up?

What's coming up?

And now like notice right now,

The energy is just a thought you're having.

In a sense,

You don't even know what energy is.

It's just a thought.

And now any concept we come up with is just a concept.

But I'd maybe say that's just made of awareness.

It's just experience itself.

Now let's move on to emotions.

So now like actually kind of fabricate,

Intentionally generate emotions.

And it's just more energy and light,

More awareness.

Also notice how any name you put on any emotion,

It's just another story,

Just another fabrication.

But keep going with that.

Keep looking at emotions.

And now bring up identity itself.

And also to be clear,

We are here,

We're doing the wisdom thing.

We're not actually looking at content.

We're just seeing how it's all made of emptiness,

Empty awareness space.

So here like maybe think about your persona with your wife,

Your persona at work,

Your persona on Facebook,

Your persona that you presented at the coaching training.

And just keep looking at it and keep seeing how,

Oh yeah,

This is just experience.

This is just energy and light arising for me right now.

Now keep going back to this kind of personality,

Yeah,

The sense of personality,

Who you think you are,

How other people interact with you.

And how's that going?

That's actually something which can be easy to see the person in different ways,

A bundle of stories and emotion.

Yeah,

I see all this clearly.

And also notice how the thing itself is your experience right now.

Your experience doesn't point to anything outside this moment.

This is it.

Okay,

And now let's look at space.

So think about direction,

Space and locality.

And I actually want you to think about it.

And notice that every thought about space,

Locality,

Orientation,

Is just a thought.

That's all it is.

It's just all fabricated from a certain view.

From another,

It's totally fine.

We're not trying to get rid of it.

And now let's look at time.

What's your experience of time?

Investigate that now.

Now bring up the past.

And that's just a thought.

That's all it is.

It's all it could possibly be.

Now look at the future.

The future.

Try to imagine really vividly,

Really believe it.

Like,

Oh yeah,

The future.

See how you relate with it.

Now there are all these plans.

See how you see an eye that moves through the future and does things.

Now notice entirely fabricated and all that you're experiencing is just awareness.

All it is is awareness.

Vast,

Spacious awareness.

Complete openness and liberation.

And liberation.

Now look at doership itself.

Not your identity,

But the very notion of identity.

The notion that there are actors that act and there are objects that receive the action.

Every bit of that is fabricated.

Every bit of it is just awareness.

And now look back.

Look at all of this all at once.

We kept looking and we kept finding that there was nothing to find.

But everything that was looked at was just open space.

And now given that realization,

Drop everything.

Relaxing the body,

Relaxing the mind.

And now let the mind just see itself in this quality of vastness,

Brightness,

And stillness.

And now let's open the mind.

We're open that no thought can be held onto.

Completely open.

We'll just sit like this for another minute or two.

And then as a thought comes up,

Just gently ask to whom does it arise?

If no thoughts come up,

Then just rest in that.

Now here in just a minute,

We're gonna wrap it up.

But now look back,

Notice what this was like.

Okay,

Good.

Now we can just slowly come back to the room.

Open the eyes.
