This exercise guides you through a meditation to connect deeply with your inner wisdom by taking some time to relax your body, to settle and quiet your conscious mind, and then look deeply within yourself for the wise connection within you that guides you towards wellbeing. A visualisation is used, and you are guided to ask a question of your inner wisdom and listen for a reply. The end has been modified to accommodate user feedback- thank you.

Welcome to this inner wisdom exercise.

This exercise helps you connect deeply with your inner wisdom by taking some time to relax your body and to settle and quiet your conscious mind so you can look deeply within yourself for the wise connection within you that guides you towards greater well-being.

Take a moment now to bring your whole mind,

Your whole presence,

Your whole focus into the present moment.

Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.

This exercise is purely for your own benefit.

So throughout,

Give yourself permission to focus on and enhance anything you find helpful and to move away from anything that you don't know.

In a moment,

I'm going to guide you through a relaxation exercise that encourages you to relax your body and then your mind and to turn your focus away from the world around you towards your internal experience.

Take a few moments to deepen your breathing,

Really slowing it down and bring your focus inwardly to your breath.

Imagine a warm and pleasant energy above you,

Shining down on you.

You may experience it as a light,

Or a light that is shining down on you.

Imagine a warm and pleasant energy above you,

Shining down on you.

You may experience it as a light,

A warmth,

A soothing feeling,

Something pleasant,

Gentle,

Supportive and calming.

Some people will imagine this with a sound,

A smell,

Or even a taste,

And you're invited to open up to whatever sensations will make this more pleasant,

Relaxing and soothing for you.

Imagine this energy flowing down into your head,

Warming,

Calming and relaxing you as it moves through your head.

It flows down over your scalp,

All the way over the outside of your head and your neck,

Through your temples and to the inside of your head,

Calming,

Soothing and relaxing you as it goes.

And it flows down your forehead and over your face,

Through the inside of your head,

Throughout your brain,

Through your eyes and ears and all those sensitive sense organs in your head,

Relaxing them,

Calming them,

Soothing them as this energy flows on down into your body through your neck.

The warm and pleasant energy flows down the back of your neck,

Relaxing,

Soothing tension as it moves on down into your shoulders,

Into your upper arms,

Through your elbows and your lower arms,

Cooling for a moment in your hands and your fingers,

Before it flows out the ends of your fingertips,

Taking with it any remnants of tension.

And now this warm and pleasant energy flows down from the front of your neck into your chest,

Down along the front of your abdomen,

Soothing you,

Relaxing you,

Releasing tension and from your shoulders it moves down over your back,

Along your spine and the muscles beside it to the bottom of your torso,

Warming,

Gently calming and soothing.

And the energy moves into the inside of your abdomen,

Releasing there any tension from the inner organs of your body,

Leaving you calm and soothed and relaxed.

From the base of your abdomen the energy moves through your bottom and your hips into your upper legs,

Releasing,

Soothing and washing away tension through your knees,

Your lower legs and this pleasant and soothing energy pools for a moment in your feet and your toes.

And from there the energy flows on through you out your feet,

Leaving your whole body soothed,

Calm and feeling deeply relaxed.

You can enhance this relaxation by deepening your breathing even more.

As you notice your breath deepening turn your attention to your mind and notice what your mind's eye is seeing,

The thoughts and images that come through your mind.

And just as you've chosen to close your body's eyes and focus inwardly choose now to also close your mind's eye.

Let your mind's eyelid get heavier and heavier and let it slide slowly shut closing your mind to conscious thinking just as you've closed your body's eyes to seeing.

And with your mind's eye closed keep deepening your breathing.

As you notice your breath deepening allow it to really slow down.

As your breath slows down focus on extending the length of your exhale.

As you extend the length of your exhale you may notice yourself sinking into whatever is supporting you.

As you sink into what is supporting you,

Let your muscles loosen and soften even more.

As you notice your muscles softening,

You can move your attention deeper and deeper into yourself so that your focus is inward and deeply connected to your being internally.

Your body evolved to take care of itself.

When it gets injured in its wisdom it gets busy healing the injury without checking with your conscious mind about what to do.

When you get a cold your body goes about fighting the cold again using its wisdom without needing conscious input.

In the same way your mind which is after all an extension of your body also knows how to look after you.

Deep inside your mind your inner wisdom has accurate information about who you are.

It knows all about your experiences and how they've affected you.

It knows what you intended by your actions and it knows you better than anybody.

Your inner wisdom knows all about the resources that you have both internal and external and how best you can make use of them to enhance your well-being.

Just like your body's wisdom your inner wisdom is focused on your well-being.

Your inner wisdom is on your side.

It really cares about you and it wants what's best for you.

It knows what you need right now and it knows what you've always needed whether you got it or not.

Your inner wisdom knows what will bring about healing and well-being in your mind and your body.

It also knows what you're ready to know and ready to do right now to move you towards greater well-being.

We're going to use your imagination to create a space where you can go whenever you need to for deep access to your inner wisdom.

Your inner wisdom is working all the time in the background on your well-being sending you signals and suggestions and it's so useful to set up a direct line of communication so you can formally consult your inner wisdom and access its support whenever you feel the need for it.

Imagine a nice place it could be indoors or outdoors it's cozy,

Comfortable friendly and protected and you can take a seat there and be at ease.

In this place there's a screen or a portal that works like a movie screen.

The screen connects directly to your inner wisdom.

There's a seat here for you and for any part of your mind or experience that wishes to connect with your inner wisdom.

Because different aspects of ourselves have different emotional tolerances and experiences,

You'll find an emotional remote control dial at each seat.

It's simple.

It's like a volume dial in a stereo.

You turn it up to feel more and down to feel less.

And each part of you can adjust it as they see fit.

Take a moment to get a picture of this place and get a sense of the comfort and connection here.

Imagine yourself in your seat looking at the blank screen where your inner wisdom will communicate in a moment.

Take a few moments to consider what it is that you would like to consult your inner wisdom about right now.

What is it you need to know?

What problem are you struggling to solve?

Put that query to your inner wisdom.

Don't think of the answer.

Keep your mind's eye closed.

Look at the blank screen and allow your inner wisdom to emerge and communicate with you.
