My favourite time to do this meditation is first thing in the morning. It can be hard, at times, in this world where having more is encouraged, to stop and realise how much we already have. Actively practicing gratitude for what we have brings us into the present moment. Rather than feeling lack, we begin to feel and live in a state of abundance!

Hello,

My name is Carmen.

I'm a yoga and mindfulness teacher based in Australia.

And this is a meditation on gratitude.

So find yourself in a comfortable seat.

You might like to sit on a chair or sit your back up against a wall,

Somewhere where you can feel your spine nice and erect.

Take a couple of moments to really set up here.

Find your sit bones grounded down.

As you inhale,

Feel as if your spine elongates.

And feel that energy continue out the crown of your head.

As you exhale,

Imagine the energy being drawn down through your sit bones,

Through your roots,

Through your spine.

Imagine the energy being drawn down through your sit bones,

Through your roots,

All the way down into the earth.

Close your eyes.

Or allow yourself to have a soft gaze just in front of you,

Somewhere where your eyes won't move,

Where you won't be distracted by the things that surround you.

Bring all of your attention and your awareness to your breath.

Inhale as it draws in the nostrils.

And exhale as it draws back out again.

Inhale as you feel your spine elongate.

And exhale as you feel yourself ground and root.

Take a few breaths here to center,

To drop in.

Let any sounds that are around you just fade as if they are background noise.

Concentrate fully and solely on your breath.

Go ahead and take a deep breath in your nose.

Let it all out.

In your mind,

I'd like you to list and find in your life five things that you are grateful for.

Take your time.

It doesn't have to be in a specific order.

It's five things that you are grateful to have in your life.

It can be people,

It can be possessions,

It can be states of mind.

There are no limitations.

Five things that you are grateful for.

And now,

I'd like you to try to think of three things about your job or your work or your state of unemployment that you are grateful for.

Three things that your job,

Your work or your state of unemployment allow you to have.

Find these three things.

Bring them into your mind's eye in exquisite detail.

And last but very,

Very,

Very not least,

I'd like you to think about one thing about yourself that you love.

One thing about yourself that you love.

A characteristic,

A physical attribute,

A state of awareness.

One thing.

One thing about yourself that you love.

Take a deep breath in your nose.

And as you exhale,

Begin to think about the five things you are grateful for.

The three things about your work,

Your job,

Your state of unemployment that you are grateful for.

And that one thing about yourself that you love.

I invite you to stay here in this glow of gratitude for as long as you like.

Thank you so much for joining me.

Stay safe.

And have a beautiful day.

Shanti.

Thank you.

Visualizing 5 things I’m grateful for, 3 things about my job/unemployment I’m grateful for, and 1 thing about myself. Focusing on these truly makes me feel more full.
