Hey,
This is Deshant.
Welcome to this guided meditation on seeking.
There is a very high probability that if you are doing this meditation,
Then you are seeking something.
Maybe it's spiritual enlightenment or a state of bliss that follows a meditation.
Maybe you are seeking some relief from stress in your life right now or some financial freedom.
Seeking something right now is a good strategy to get some instant answers or relief.
However,
As a high performance coach,
I get plenty of opportunities to ask people if they can delay their need for instant notification to see the underlying reality behind it.
Be it seeking enlightenment or instagram lives,
More money or bigger houses.
It doesn't matter what made you choose this meditation right now.
You've come here because you seek something,
An answer,
A desire.
And that desire has materialized.
Let's see if we can find out the underlying reality behind that seeking.
As we begin this meditation,
See if you can instantly become still wherever you are.
Choose a posture that conveys dignity.
Sit upright but not too tensed and bring your attention to the breathing.
Take a deep breath in and as you breathe out,
See if you can gently drop your shoulders.
Again,
Take a deep breath in and as you exhale,
Relax the muscles of your forehead and your eyes.
Take another deep breath in and see if you can ever so slightly relax your jaw and release all the tension around it.
Let's begin by contemplating on the object of your seeking.
Ask yourself,
What am I seeking?
Am I seeking enlightenment or am I seeking more money?
Am I seeking six packs or bigger butts?
Am I seeking athletic prowess or am I seeking better relationships?
Pick any one thing that comes to your mind.
Take a minute to contemplate on this.
Let's begin by predicting on the object of your seeking.
Okay.
Now ask yourself,
Why am I seeking it?
What is the reason behind it?
Remember,
Curiosity is king.
Get as specific with your answers as you can.
Okay.
Good.
Now ask yourself,
How long have I been seeking this for?
See if you can get really specific again.
Is it a week or a month?
A year or a decade?
Okay.
Good.
Now,
Let's imagine that you get what you're seeking.
Ask yourself,
What will happen if I get what I'm seeking?
Will I finally feel happy?
Will my seeking finally stop?
Take a few minutes to paint the whole picture.
Really think about this.
Good.
What will happen if I get what I'm seeking?
What will happen if my deepest desires are fulfilled?
Excellent.
Excellent.
Now that we have some answers,
Is it possible for you to let go of your seeking just for a few minutes?
Give yourself permission and make it your intention to stop seeking just for a few minutes.
Like Joseph Goldstein says,
Just sit and know you're sitting.
See what happens when you stop seeking just for a few minutes.
The only instruction here is to be with whatever shows up in your consciousness.
Good.
At some point,
You will realize that you are distracted by some thoughts,
Feelings or sensations.
In that case,
Just pay attention to them and then gently bring yourself back to what's really here right now when there is no seeking.
Good.
Very good.
Now that you've had a few minutes to contemplate on this no-seeking mindset,
What's different?
Did anything change?
Do you feel relaxed?
Or did you not like being nothing?
Do you feel like there is a lot of space available within you right now?
Let's just spend a minute here to reflect on any insights you may have had.
Good.
Good.
If you're doing this meditation for the first time,
Then you might have recognized something different,
Or maybe not.
However,
One thing that I am certain about is that you have realized your why and the reasons to seek what you're seeking.
You painted a picture,
A story.
You either thought in images or you thought in words and feelings.
The insight here is to understand that that's all it is.
A picture,
A story painted by your brain in a thousand words and images from your past,
Your memories,
Your current thought patterns and where you aim to be in the future.
If you recognize this impermanent and ever-changing nature of your thoughts,
Feelings and sensations,
Then you are well on your way towards realizing your true nature.
However,
Just like any other habit and patterns,
You have to build this habit up as well.
Bring yourself back to this meditation and contemplate on the same questions and soon you may come to realize that the words change,
The story changes and you realize that this is not the reality.
Let's contemplate on this perspective for a few moments.
What's really here right now in this present moment when there is no seeking and no stories to tell?
What's really here right now in this present moment when there is no seeking and no stories to tell?
What's really here right now in this present moment when there is no seeking and no stories to tell?
Very good.
Now,
Allow yourself to gently bring awareness back to your breath.
Take a few deep breaths.
Wiggle your toes and your fingers.
If you've had your eyes closed,
You may gently open them up and make yourself comfortable with your surroundings.
Great job!
You've done some deep work today.
Show some self gratitude here.
I would be jumping up and down the floor like a child,
But hey,
That's just me.
As you go on about your day,
See if you can remind yourself of this question.
What's really here right now when there is no seeking and no stories to tell?
Thank you for meditating with me today.
I am very grateful that you showed up for yourself today.
I will see you again tomorrow.
