Using water as an analogy in meditation is profoundly calming for the mind and body. Water represents fluidity, adaptability, and tranquillity. As you imagine your thoughts as ripples or waves on the ocean, you can release from the turbulence and return to inner calm, just like the ocean when the waves settle after a storm. Visualizing heavy thoughts or stress as impurities being washed away by the water reinforces the process of letting go. Water's soothing qualities create a mental and emotional space where mindfulness thrives, making it an ideal analogy to guide meditation toward serenity, clarity, and inner peace.

Welcome to today's meditation.

In today's meditation we're going to connect to the ocean and use the ocean as an analogy of always returning to calmness.

Go ahead and get comfortable and close your eyes.

Take a deep breath all the way down into your belly,

Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth to start.

Just centering yourself here now.

Let's do a couple more like that.

Deep breath in,

Exhale letting go of all of the stuff you don't need to take with you on your inward journey today.

Feeling the belly expand as you inhale and fall as you exhale.

And then when you're ready allowing the breath to flow in and out of your nose throughout this practice.

Connecting deeply to the pace of your own breath here.

And then in your mind now go sit somewhere near the ocean.

Maybe on a beach or in a harbor somewhere.

With the view of the ocean.

Maybe you even remember what that feels like when you're near the ocean.

Allowing thoughts to come and go throughout this practice.

But returning to focusing on the ocean.

First I want you to imagine a storm at sea.

Big waves.

But as you're breathing every breath you take now.

You notice how the ocean is calming and slowing down.

Becoming so calm right in front of you.

So calm right in front of you.

Maybe it's calming just like you're breathing now.

What if those waves were representing your thoughts?

Sometimes it can feel overwhelming.

And busy.

But then just like that as you tune into your own breath.

And you imagine that ocean completely still.

You notice that your mind and your thoughts are settling too.

I want you to imagine a very gentle wave from the ocean.

Representing calmness.

Flowing in over your body right up to your chest.

And then leaving through the arms as you exhale.

And you say gently to yourself,

I release.

I let it go.

And you allow any stress or tension.

To float away with the wave.

That gentle wave.

Just in your mind.

I release.

I let it go.

You're tuning into that rhythm of the calming wave.

Arriving on your in-breath.

I release.

Flowing in over your body.

Calming the entire body up to your chest.

And leaving through the arms.

I release.

I let it go.

Starting to feel the sensation of relaxation.

Right from the top of your head.

To the soles of your feet.

Breathing in.

Feeling the calmness of that relaxing wave.

Exhale.

Let it go.

Feeling the freedom in the moment of not needing to hold on to any of that stress or tension.

I release.

I let it go.

And as you are looking over the ocean.

You feel that sense of calmness in your body.

As if you are mirroring the calmness of that still ocean.

Mirroring that in your body now.

And in your mind.

As if all of your thoughts have settled now.

Just like the ocean.

Really noticing how connected you feel in this moment.

The connection that you have created to that stillness.

Peacefulness.

Calmness.

And you can know now that you will carry that with you.

All day.

And all night.

Feeling centred here as you take a deep breath in,

Sealing this practice.

And arriving back into the space you are in.

Coming back and opening your eyes whenever you are ready.

Thank you for allowing me to guide you today.
