This short meditation is for those moments when there are just too many tabs open in your mind. Or, as a daily meditation to help you wind down after your work day, easing into the evening. Thoughts, of course, will come and go throughout the day and as you meditate. Still, it helps to visualize closing unnecessary conversations and thoughts still lingering from earlier that day, stealing your peace at this moment. So may this short meditation guide you home to the quiet and the peace within. Background music by Christopher Lloyd Clarke

You know that feeling when you've had a busy day and it feels like you have a lot of things going around in your mind,

The kind of feeling that feels like a lot of tabs open in your mind,

Just like when you have lots of tabs open on your computer.

Well in this practice we're going to close those windows,

Tabs,

Thoughts one by one until you truly tune into the calmness within yourself.

So with your eyes closed now,

Take a deep breath in just to center yourself,

Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth.

Let's do a couple more like that.

And then when you're ready,

Allowing the breath to flow in and out of your nose.

And then I want you to start to imagine that you are closing the tabs in your mind,

Just the way you would on the computer.

Whatever happened earlier,

That conversation,

That phone call,

That email,

Whatever it is that's going around in your mind.

Imagining that you're putting your hand over that mouth and you're moving it and closing it tab by tab and closing those tabs one by one.

All of that busyness in the mind becomes less and less and less.

Go ahead,

Just take your time as you close those tabs and of course leave any one of those tabs open that you feel good about or inspired by,

That maybe you want to give a little time to or observe or understand further.

And then go ahead and close those two until you feel a deep sense of calmness,

Like a clear screen in your mind for a moment.

Of course thoughts are going to be flowing in and out of the mind and that's just fine.

But if you notice any tabs open in the mind,

Just go ahead and close them.

Returning again and again to your breath.

Letting your breath guide you to deep calm relaxation.

Allowing yourself to let go of the day and ease into the evening.

Just you and your breath.

Calmness,

Stillness.

Stay here in this stillness and if you see any tabs open,

Go ahead and close them just the way you would on the computer.

Give that ever-thinking mind a rest.

Instead focus on your breathing as the belly expands and drops back down.

That's it.

You're ready.

You can go ahead and take a deep breath in,

Sealing this practice and come back to the space you're in for allowing me to guide you.

Sometimes I find it hard to settle so I love this one for kicking off my meditation sessions on those days. It helps to still the mind and I then I can follow it with another, longer guided meditation and go into that one with a calmer mind.
