We can never truly love someone until we have first learned to love ourselves. It's not as easy as it sounds and so many of us struggle to be as compassionate towards ourselves as we are to others. This meditation aims to help you find some inner peace for a few moments and befriend yourself.

Hello again,

I'm Michael Beckamayor with mindful meditations for calm the bleep down a show where each episode we bring you another brand new 10-15 minute meditation today.

We are gonna make friends with ourselves Maybe not as easy as it sounds,

But let's see what happens And It reads Meditation practice isn't about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better It's about befriending who we are already.

I Like that quote because it is a reminder that we were all born Geniuses and we get trained and A term I like to use is domesticated we get trained into this place and like here's that's you you're in this box and It reminds me that We were all born that perfect Self and our lives whatever happens to us in our life good bad ugly or indifferent sort of Sort of reveals to us who we think we are.

Well,

This is my life.

So this is how it's going to be but Also so that so when we come to meditation so many of us come to meditation because we feel off We feel like something's wrong with us.

We feel like I thought I'm depressed.

I'm sad.

I'm angry all the time.

I got something's wrong with me So I have to meditate and that and the thing is There is nothing wrong with you the true self deep down inside is a perfect Ball of light it's a perfect awareness it is as It is supposed to be so there's nothing wrong with us And the thing is we have to come to terms with that fact almost have to admit that there's nothing wrong with us So that we can actually get something out of our meditation because if we we keep telling ourselves that we are That there's something wrong with us and we believe that Version of ourselves that version of that story that we're telling ourselves about ourselves We can constantly convince ourselves that know that there's still something wrong with me I'm going to keep working,

But it's not it's it's the opposite of that is that we are We are perfect.

We are as we are supposed to be and there is nothing wrong with us and It is again like peeling back layers to get back to that place that we were born as and Stop really convincing ourselves that we're broken Because we're not we have things about us that might we might want to change or we might not Like or they do not serve us anymore like anxiety depression anger rage Stress all of that stuff But that's not us that is That's almost like the side effect of not being ourselves ourselves so Meditation Practices to we got to get back to that place where we believe There's nothing wrong with us so that we can actually live our lives in the in the way that there is nothing wrong with us Don't go thinking that it's easy because it's not there's a reason It's It's such a thing to do because it's we all feel this way There's so many of us came to meditation thinking we there was something wrong with us Because it's a real thing like we actually feel that way about ourselves So that's what meditation is for to get back to that place where we are Closer to our true self That's what we're gonna do today so Get yourself comfortable you can sit down or lie down close your eyes Begin to slow deepen and lengthen your breath And we are befriending ourself We're befriending ourself that true self that Little ball of light that is glowing deep down within us We want to make friends with that person That consciousness that awareness And It's in there just waiting for us to peel back all those layers And uncover that self But we have to make friends with The possibility That that self exists in the first place before we can actually get there we have to be able to admit it acknowledge it Believe it So as you're breathing in and out slow long deep breaths Allowing yourself to feel heavier and heavier and sinking deeper into relaxation with each exhale Maybe you picture yourself breathing so deep into that deepest part of you breathing in so deep That you actually touch a glimpse Of that true self that we'd like to make friends with You You You long slow deep breaths in and out You If at any moment while you're following your breath you find that your mind has wondered Just gently bring it back to the breath Don't judge yourself.

Don't get frustrated.

Don't get annoyed.

Just bring it back to the breath Breathe in another fresh deep breath of now This eternal present moment that we are trying so desperately to exist within Making friends with ourself is really about making friends with the present moment In that present moment we have the clarity of thought and presence and ability to recognize the fact that we are Just as we are meant to be deep down inside Just a perfect awareness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness Pure consciousness In our last few moments together today Let's take a couple long slow deep breaths a few more in and out letting that quiet and stillness settle in Go ahead and take the longest deepest most cleansing breath in you have taken all day feel it fill you up Let it out Let's do that one last time bring it in And out And when you're ready you can open your eyes
