Hi,
This is Brooks,
And I want to tell you about something that I think could be helpful,
And that is that you're sacred and your things aren't.
I can tell you I learned this from 30 years of clutterbusting.
I worked with individuals in their homes,
In their offices,
And I helped them go through all the things in their life,
You know,
To ask and find out whether or not these things served them or not,
Whatever it was.
It was as much stuff as it was activities and things you do,
As well as the tangible items in your life.
And what I discovered was that people often wanted to hang on to things that they didn't really like or care about,
Because they felt that it was important to have that,
Based on what other people said,
You know,
What was popular in the world at that time.
But they were suffering because they were hanging on to this thing.
And truly,
They were suffering because they were holding on to something that wasn't serving them.
They became secondary to that thing that they're holding on to that they didn't like.
And they often dug in and really wanted to defend that thing.
But the more they took a look at it,
They started to realize,
Yeah,
This thing is hurting me.
The presence of this thing is hurting me.
And really,
That's when you start to take your life back.
We start to notice that.
Because it's your life.
The world will try to encourage you to do things it wants from you.
And it can be very hypnotic.
You know,
We're social creatures,
We learn from others.
Advertising knows that very well.
Marketing,
You know.
But we really get our lives back when we start to consider ourselves first.
And we consider that we're sacred,
And that the things in our life come and go.
The only thing that stays is us.
Our,
You know,
Our aliveness,
Really,
Truly.
Because our body comes and goes.
Things in our body,
You know.
I am bald on the top of my head.
I used to have hair there.
And that was there for a long time.
And then it went away.
And I was upset about it for a little bit.
And I was like,
Oh well,
It's not a big deal.
So our body changes.
You know,
We used to be babies.
We used to be toddlers and teenagers.
We became adults.
When you're an adult,
Even though you're an adult,
You've grown to be an adult,
Your body changes.
The change is constant.
And the one thing that isn't constant is you.
Like a sense of you-ness.
I am.
I exist.
I'm here.
That's always there.
And that doesn't mean stuff has no value,
Or the activities that we do have no value.
It's a healthier way to live when we understand that there's something in my life right now that I,
Let's say,
Something that I care about,
Or that I enjoy.
But it's here temporarily.
Maybe it's here for 10 years.
Maybe it's here for two weeks.
Maybe it's here for a day.
You know,
Things come and go.
But you don't.
A deeper you.
Deeper than the outside you.
Again,
A sense that I exist.
I'm here.
I'm alive.
There's an aliveness in me.
A current.
A life force.
You can notice that by putting your hand on your chest and feeling your heartbeat.
There's vitality there.
There's movement.
Your heart is pumping blood.
You can put your hand on your ribs and feel your ribs expand and contract.
Expand and contract.
That's life.
That's a tangible experience of life itself.
It's operating you.
It's operating through you.
You're not beating your heart.
You're not breathing your lungs.
You're not circulating your blood.
It's provided for you by life itself.
How great is that?
Life itself is giving you this life.
This experience of being alive.
This feeling that I exist.
And like I said,
You just have to look back at everything that happened up till today and realize things come and go.
Sometimes we decide to let go of something.
Sometimes it's taken away from us.
It goes away.
Either way,
Things come in and go in,
Come in and go in.
We try to hang on to something that doesn't serve us,
We suffer.
That's because we're sacred and our things aren't.
And the more that we hear that,
The more it goes through our mind and settles into our heart and our heart has an intuitive acceptance like,
Yeah,
That's true.
Things come and go,
But I'm always here.
Not my body,
Not my stuff,
Not the people in my life,
Not the activities in my life.
Many people have come and gone.
My body's changed in many different ways.
Even my thoughts,
The stuff I believe,
The stuff I think about,
You can notice,
Yeah,
Those things change too.
I have different beliefs now that I had 10 years ago,
20 years ago.
But what's still here,
What's prevalent,
Again,
What's truly sacred is you.
And the more that sinks in,
The more peace of mind we have.
Because even though life can be rough with its ups and downs,
We can feel like,
Oh,
This shouldn't be happening,
You know?
But if it's happening,
It's happening.
But I'm here amidst this change,
Amidst the things coming and going.
The more that settles in,
The more we have an acceptance of,
I'm here,
I am here.
I'm alive.
Then we realize that we truly are sacred.
I wish you the best.
Take care.
