Hi,

It's Brooks.

And thanks for joining me.

It's good to be here with you.

Today we're going to talk about a simple way to feel peaceful.

It's something I've been doing for a while,

And it's been very helpful for me.

And I was thinking I would share it with you,

And maybe it might be helpful to you too.

So let's start by having you find a comfortable place to sit or to lie down.

And then close your eyes.

I'd like for you to focus on your breath.

Feel the breath come into your body.

And then go out.

It comes in,

And goes out.

It's like waves lapping on the shore.

The waves come in.

The waves go out.

It's nice to observe these waves of breath.

Something soothing about that.

And then what's wonderful is you don't have to breathe yourself.

The breathing is automatic.

Spontaneous.

You're being breathed.

You don't have to think about it.

You don't have to wonder if you're doing it right.

You don't have to think,

Oh did I remember to breathe?

It's all taken care of.

The breath comes in.

The breath goes out.

And there's a peacefulness in knowing that this is taken care of.

And it's good that it's taken care of because it's the most valuable activity that goes on in our life.

Out of all the things that we do,

All the things that happen in our life,

Breathing is the most important.

Because if we don't breathe,

Then we're not alive.

We can't experience life.

So it turns out the most important experience,

Most important activity in our life is taken care of.

We don't have to do it.

The breath comes in.

The breath goes out on its own.

Life is breathing you.

Life is taking care of you.

And there's peacefulness in that.

That what's most important is taken care of.

You don't have to think about it at all.

It's what you're taking care of.

The body breathes in nutrient-rich oxygen.

And then the heart pumps the blood,

Spreading the oxygen through the body,

Allowing you to experience life,

To take actions,

To feel alive,

To exist.

Your heart and your lungs both working for you all the time.

You don't have to do a thing.

And there's peacefulness in that.

A very simple peacefulness.

We don't have to ask our lungs to do the work.

We may never ask them to do the work.

And they do it.

They're on top of it.

They're basically saying,

We took care of this.

Don't worry about it.

Enjoy your life.

Enjoy being alive.

And the nice thing about this understanding is you don't have to think about it.

You don't have to think about it all the time.

You know,

I have to remember.

I have to remember this.

I have to remember this so I can feel peaceful.

You may remember it.

It may spontaneously come to you.

Maybe you're in the midst of a bunch of activities,

Kind of overwhelmed by the importance of them.

You know,

I gotta get this done.

This is so important.

And then all of a sudden things get quiet and you remember,

Oh yeah,

The most important thing is being done.

Life is breathing me.

Life is breathing my heart.

That's taken care of.

The most important thing is taken care of.

And that's where the feeling of peacefulness comes in.

Ah,

Yeah,

Right.

Right?

That's right.

The most important thing is being alive,

Experiencing life.

We have so many things that we do in our lives.

We come and go constantly.

Something that's important one day,

Another day,

It's not important anymore.

But the one thing that always is important is being alive.

And that's taken care of.

And life is taking care of you.

So we're going to end our meditation now.

You can stretch.

Open your eyes.

Look around.

Congratulations on taking this look and discovering this most important thing that you have that's taken care of.

You don't have to do anything.

It's taken care of for you.

Now you get to enjoy your life.
