This meditation is as old as the 'hills' or should we say 'trees'. It grounds and centres children so that they can sway in the breeze, like the trees! Suitable for children aged 5-13. This grounding meditation works with the affirmation 'I am connected to Earth.’ Designed by primary/elementary teachers and easily linked to the curriculum, this meditation can be used both at home and in classrooms. Reach deep and have an easy day with The Grounding Tree!

Find a comfortable spot.

Become aware of your breath flowing in and out.

Is it moving quickly today or slowly?

Imagine a wonderful door ahead of you.

Your door can look any way you like.

Have a good look at it.

Pay attention to the details.

Notice that the door has a wonderful warm golden light flowing from underneath it.

Open your door and step through into the bright golden light.

Feel the light's warmth and let it bring a smile to your lips.

Now feel the smile spread across your entire face and throughout your body.

As your vision adjusts to this bright place,

You notice that you're at the bottom of a lush green hill and that there is a path leading over the hill to the other side.

You walk along the path.

It is lined with white pebbles on each side.

Pick one up as you walk along and feel its cool,

Smooth touch on your hand as you continue walking.

As you reach the top of the hill,

You notice that the other side of the hill is dotted with tall,

Tall trees.

These trees are very old and very,

Very wise.

You know that you could learn a lot from these wondrous trees.

Wander amongst the trees until you find a nice looking spot,

A place where you think you might be comfortable for a while.

Place your white pebble on the ground as a gift to the earth,

For it is about to show you something incredible.

Stand very,

Very still.

Feel the silence of this place.

Feel your feet firmly on the ground.

Feel a tingle as your legs magically turn into a stump and your feet become long and windy like thick tree roots that reach deep down into the ground.

Feel a shiver as your arms transform into a series of magnificent branches reaching up,

Up,

Up into the sky.

Your trunk is broad.

Your branches are strong and swaying.

Your roots reach deep into the welcoming soft soil.

You are now one of the majestic trees on the hillside.

Breathe like a tree.

Pay attention to your roots.

They are spreading out deep into the ground.

You feel them anchoring you to the earth.

You notice a trickle of nourishment drawing up through your roots.

You feel the deep baboon baboon of the earth's heartbeat.

Follow the goodness from the soil as it nourishes you.

It slowly rises through the roots,

Up the trunk,

Dropping off goodness to the cells within your trunk.

Follow it up,

Up,

Up as it spreads out amongst your branches,

Along to the tips of your leaves.

You feel refreshed.

You notice that the leaves are drawing in sunlight and feel the sunlight being moved along your branches,

Down the trunk and into your roots,

Filling you up with energy,

Light and love.

Spend some time being the tree.

Feel the sway of your branches.

Feel the light on your leaves as they flick in the cool breeze.

Feel the strength of your trunk,

But also its flexibility as it gently bends.

Feel its connection with the earth,

Its love for her,

Her love for you.

Enjoy the feeling of being safe,

Strong and nourished.

Watch now as you miraculously turn back into a child,

The same wonderful child that you were before,

Except that you have brought some of the tree's qualities back with you.

You are strong,

But flexible too.

You are connected to the earth.

Your head is clear,

Your thoughts are ordered and peaceful.

When you are ready,

Take a deep breath,

Bring your attention gently back into the room,

Back into your body.

Wiggle your fingers and toes,

Have a big stretch and open your eyes.
