Today's nidra practice is going to be a little bit different.
We will be going over some of Ramana Maharshi's spiritual teachings.
We will create our sankalpa around these teachings.
And we will discuss just what it means to be with the self,
To be one with the self.
So with that said,
Please find a comfortable lying position,
Keeping the spine straight and long.
You may want a pillow under the head and under the knees to release the lower back.
And once you've found your comfortable position,
Then start to bring your awareness to your breath,
Your inhalations and exhalations.
Inhaling deeply and exhaling,
Letting it all go,
Allowing your body to melt,
To fully relax into this space,
Into this practice.
Keeping your awareness on your breath.
We will start with the inquiry with our sankalpa.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Silently repeat this for this inquiry alone will destroy all other thoughts.
So concentrate on this thought.
Who am I?
And when other thoughts do arise,
Ask yourself,
To whom do these thoughts arise?
And you'll answer,
To me.
So then ask yourself,
Who am I?
Keeping on with this inquiry,
To whom do these thoughts occur?
To me?
Well,
Who am I?
Repeating this silently to yourself.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Now,
Bring your awareness to the chest.
To the heart.
Into the heartbeat.
Bringing your awareness to the beat of your heart.
To the heart.
Retain the mind in the heart.
Retain the mind in the heart.
To free yourself of name,
Form,
And attachment.
For when the mind stays in the heart,
The I,
The source of all thoughts,
Will go.
And the self will shine.
For when the mind stays in the heart,
The I,
The source of all thoughts,
Will go.
If a thought has arisen in the mind,
Remember that it has arisen in the heart.
Remember your sankalpa,
Your mantra.
Who am I?
Whenever any other thought enters the mind,
When the mind floats away,
Repeat your sankalpa.
Who am I?
Who am I?
So many thoughts arise in meditation.
This must happen,
For what lies hidden within you is brought out.
And so,
Unless it rises up,
How can it be destroyed?
To extinguish these thoughts is to strengthen the mind,
So that eventually we can exist in this pure state,
In this meditative state.
It is not eye to eye delivery now.
Once the self is realized,
There is no mind to control.
Again,
If thoughts have entered the mind,
Return to your sankalpa.
Who am I?
Again,
If thoughts have entered the mind,
Bring your awareness back to your sankalpa.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
To know the self,
One must reject the categories that hide the self.
For realization is nothing to be gained.
It's already there.
All that's necessary is to rid of the thought I have not realized.
Because if the self were to be reached,
It would mean that the self is not here and now,
That it is yet to be obtained.
That the self is here and now,
It is presence,
It is stillness,
Peace.
The obstacle is the idea that you still have yet to discover or realize the self.
You are the self.
The individual soul as the form of I is the ego.
The self has no sense of I.
I When we come to the realization that we are the self,
We become resolved into self.
Like a river discharged into the ocean,
Just one of many droplets that make up the un-understandable vastness of the ocean.
We become one with the moment,
With presence.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
We become one with the moment.
Returning to your sankalpa.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Which is the waveless ocean or the motionless ether?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
It is a sense of inner peace,
Quietude.
It is a sense of inner peace.
To realize the self,
One does not have to practice asceticism.
One does not have to remove themselves from society.
One does not have to live as a monk.
For solitude is in the mind,
Not the environment.
For attachment is in the mind,
Not the environment.
For love is in the mind.
For love is in the mind.
Place the mind in the heart,
In the heartbeat.
Return to your sankalpa.
Who am I?
Placing your sankalpa in the heart.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Continuing this inquiry and reflection for the rest of the meditation.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Keeping your awareness on your heartbeat.
Repeating this inquiry.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I?
You are welcome to continue your meditative inquiry for as long as you like.
But if you're ready to come back to the space around you,
You can begin to wiggle your fingers and toes,
Waking up the physical body.
And gently,
Slowly opening the eyes.
Thank you for meditating with me on Ramana Maharshi's spiritual teachings.
Namaste.
Namaste.
Namaste.
Namaste.
Namaste.
