Transcript
Welcome to our meditation for the first chakra,
Also called the root chakra.
So come into your meditation seat,
Maybe with the hips propped up or leaning against a wall if you need support.
Just feel your two sitting bones rooting down into the earth and take the palms of your hands onto your thigh bones face down.
The shoulders soften,
The elbows can be bent.
Just begin to tune into your breath.
Feel the left sit bone heavy dropping into the floor and the right sit bone heavy dropping into the floor.
The space between your sit bones just begin to visualize a red ball of fire like the molten lava you'd find at the center of the earth.
Your eyes close and your attention in.
Begin to breathe in such a way that you bring all your attention to your lower body.
Maybe inhaling for three and exhaling for six.
In and out through the nose,
Inhaling three.
Exhaling six,
Sending the breath down into the pelvis,
Rooting the sit bones down and back.
And breathing in,
Breathing out very deeply and long.
Finding your in breath.
Exhaling all the way.
Take your attention to that ball of fire between the sit bones.
As you exhale firmly,
I want you to imagine your sit bones attaching to the ground beneath you,
Sprouting roots and growing down and deep all the way into the center of the earth.
The center of the earth is just this molten lava ball of fire.
Every exhale just visualize your sitting bones rooting down deeper,
Deeper,
Connecting more and more,
Sprouting roots and more roots and thinner roots as it grounds down into the center of the earth.
Over the course of the next few exhales,
Taking your attention again to that ball of fire at the base of your spine,
Send it down now between the two roots that you planted all the way down to the center of the earth.
So your small ball of fire connects with the big ball of fire at the center of the earth.
Bring your awareness to this currency,
This energy between you and the ground so,
So deep below you.
You can visualize that even if you got up and walked away,
This tail,
This root that you've sprung down would stay so connected even if you moved from your seat.
In this space deep within your roots and connecting with the center of the earth,
You also access your past,
Your memories,
That primal version of yourself.
This connection is so simple,
It's so direct.
You're exhaling,
You keep grounding down,
You're remembering your heritage,
Your lineage,
Your ancient self.
Your exhale is really strong and long.
In the chakra system,
This earth element represents form,
Solidarity as the lowest end of the chakra spectrum.
You can think of it as representing your body.
As we move up the chakras,
We go from the gross to the subtle.
Really the lower half of your body.
This first chakra is your connection to the physical world,
Your foundation,
The skin,
This body,
This form in which you find yourself.
We'll take this now into a practice.
It will allow you to feel this grounding,
This rooting with you at all times.
Keeping your exhales strong,
I want you to retract your roots just slightly and slowly from that molten lava fiery core of the center of the earth,
Just coming back up towards the surface of the ground where you sit.
I want to introduce to you now the concept of the void.
True place where our first chakra resides is not just at the bottom of the spine,
But it's really at the base of the coccyx,
Where your groin is really hitting the floor.
Visualize three-fists distance underneath that place,
An opening,
A hole just below you,
Three-fists down from where you sit,
Just a teardrop-shaped hollowness in the earth,
The void.
Feel your first chakra there in that space.
With your exhales and your breathing,
Connect down to that space,
That teardrop space below the earth,
Just like it was a continuation of your own spine.
Your breath and your energy is breathing into this void below you.
From this space,
You have awareness of yourself and of your own energy from this space.
Just begin to visualize that even in a high-rise building,
You could have this subtle connection to this hollow teardrop void space below the earth.
Some traditions say the first chakra actually resides here,
Below us,
As well as within us.
Over the next ten breaths,
Just seep your whole exhale into this void space.
Get familiar with it.
Know that you can take it with you.
Slowly now,
Just take the right hand below your navel and press into the place below your navel above your groin.
With the left hand on top to meet it,
Just sealing in the effects of this meditation,
The effects of this practice.
You can now turn that right hand into a fist.
The left hand wraps over the right.
Keeping the spine really long and tall,
Just gently bow forward.
Yogic seal.
As you come upright,
Lift the chin down.
Open your eyes very slowly to take in your mat and the rest of the room.
Thank you so much for joining me for this meditation.

Very powerful. Breathing became like a trance, and at the end my lower abdomen felt very "fiery"! Will do this again when I need to balance this chakra and get grounded. Thank you 🙏🏼
