Embodying the Flow.
This embodiment practice is facilitated by Maureen Pelton,
Social scientist and spiritual teacher with 30 years of experience studying and facilitating embodiment.
My intention in sharing this practice is to deepen surrender to the waters of the body's intelligence.
Please begin by closing your eyes or softening your gaze and become aware of your breath.
Allow your breath to be your guide.
As you begin to become aware of your breath,
Allow your mind's eye to imagine or envision you standing on the bank of a great river.
This river may be real or imaginary,
Perhaps somewhere you have been or wish to go.
As you deepen your awareness of your breath in your body,
Pay attention to the river flowing next to you.
As you observe the rhythm of your breath in your body,
Become aware of the rhythm of the flow in the river.
As you notice the rhythm of your heartbeat in your body,
Pay attention to the rhythm of the sound of the river.
As you observe the rhythm of sensations and emotions in your body,
Notice how the river flows effortlessly.
There is no resistance in the river.
It flows down a path of least resistance.
The water follows its path and creates new ways over time.
The river is flowing from its source to join other waters somewhere along the way.
Just imagine engaging with the water.
Maybe you observe it.
Maybe you enjoy floating on the surface.
Maybe you desire getting in the water and maybe going under.
Just observe how you engage with the water.
And as you engage,
Become aware of the nature of the water's receptive,
Allowing,
And emerging energy.
Remembering that our bodies are about 70% water,
I invite you to imagine being in the river,
Feeling supported,
Connected,
Breathing,
And relaxing.
Imagine this as a multidimensional experience where your body can become one with the waters of the river,
Letting go and surrendering into the flow of the waters.
Observe where you experience fluidity in your body,
Where you connect to the flow.
I invite you to surrender to the experience of becoming one with the waters of the river,
Feeling the fluidity within the waters of the river and the waters of your body.
Observe the freedom of fluidity in the river and in your body.
Now imagine traveling as the waters of the river.
Observe the grace and ease as you flow down the river,
Going over,
Around,
And through the rocks and any other obstacles in the river.
They are just there,
And you find your way around,
Over,
Or through them.
Be aware that the water has no resistance,
Avoidance,
Or judgment of the rocks and obstacles.
As you flow,
Observe how the persistent flow of water erodes the earth over time,
And the course of the river can change.
As you flow with the waters,
Notice there is no effort and no forcing.
Notice the freedom in the waters flowing,
In the waters allowing,
In the waters surrendering,
In the waters emerging.
Be aware of where you may experience resistance in your body or fight against the flow,
The allowing,
The surrendering.
It's okay,
Just breathe into it.
Now observe where in your body you experience the intelligence of flow,
Surrender,
Allowing,
Trusting and breathe into it.
Be aware of how strong your body becomes when you acknowledge the intelligence in the waters of your body.
How strong,
Wild,
And free,
Just like the river you are when you surrender to the flow.
Embrace the waters of your body,
The intelligence of the waters of your body.
When you are ready,
You may either step out of the river onto the bank,
Or you may stay in the river and continue on to meet the other waters.
May your journey be graceful and effortless.
When you are ready,
Please open your eyes and experience the world around you.
