This is based on a meditation experience I once had in which I was instructed to match my breath to the sound of a drum. As the beat of the drum got faster, the intensity of breathing felt almost overwhelming, but the silence and empty space that followed this was one of the most profound experiences I've every had, so I thought I would try to replicate it and share it here with you. From a psychotherapeutic perspective, this can be used as a panic induction exercise for panic attacks. Enjoy.

So what's going to happen is you will hear this drum beat and then you'll just match up your breath with the rhythm of the drum.

So let's try it here.

So in breath,

Out breath.

And so that beat will get faster and faster,

A little bit faster than what you just heard at the end there,

And then it will stay like that for about a minute.

So again,

This will be fairly intense,

But it essentially ensures that your focus is one-pointed on your breath for that period of time.

And then it will be interesting to feel what it's like to be in this space after we stop.

Okay,

And let's match up our in breath with this first beat.

So in breath,

Out breath.

And then out breath.

And then out breath.

And then out breath.

And then out breath.

And now you can just rest into the natural rhythm of the breath and just feel what it's like here in this empty space.

So let's find our hypertension,

Which is very important.

Alright,

How was that for you?

I know that one can seem maybe a little strange or intimidating.

And if you weren't able to follow along the whole time,

It's totally fine.

And maybe you might even want to go back and try it again when you've really gotten an idea of what it was like.

But also maybe you had a profound experience like a lot of people have had once you reach the end of that intense breathing and just sit in that empty space,

That open space that is always available to us.

Have a great day.

Absolutely love it Charles! It’s quickly become one of my favourite breathwork tracks for when time is limited. Would love a longer version too, with an extra round or two maybe?

A wonderful practice .. Thank you .. I experienced feelings similar to The Wim Hof method .. during the fast breathing there’s no way for the Ming to wander or wonder .. however at the end I experienced the silence as a great anchor helped by the feelings .. was slightly difficult to get back into the normal breathing rhythm
