In today's joy work,
We will write our way to prosperity and success.
Last time we focused on shifting from protecting ourselves from success to protecting ourselves for success.
And this brought us some clarity about misconceptions we have about protection.
It's not so much about an external and negative force as it is an internal and positive one.
This time we will turn to our ideas about prosperity and deepen this work through journaling.
Begin by getting out your journal.
And I want you to write down the names of three people who you consider to be successful.
Good.
Now next to each of their names,
I want you to write down one adjective that describes them.
Now let's think about how you can implement your vision of success and successful people and their qualities into your own daily joy work practice.
One way to do this is to focus on what you've already accomplished rather than what you want,
Wish,
Hope to do,
Which puts you into a self-critical mode again as we talked about last time.
So go back to the adjectives you wrote down and for each one write down something that you have done in your life that has had this quality.
Maybe one of your adjectives is brave.
And when you were younger,
You moved far from your home in order to attend a school that would give you opportunities you couldn't get in your hometown.
So write that down.
Now time us for two minutes as we do this.

Finish the phrase that you're writing.
And then put the journal to the side.
See how different it feels to focus on your accomplishments rather than your goals.
You might even be feeling optimistic as a result of doing this exercise.
By focusing on your accomplishments,
You are increasing your sense of self-worth.
And that increases the flow and ease of your success and prosperity.
What I would like you to do in your joy work is to focus on the three qualities you most admire and ask yourself what you can do each day to feel these qualities.
You might ask yourself,
What can I do to feel brave,
Determined,
And focused?
Or what can I do to feel driven,
Disciplined,
And creative?
Or what can I do to feel joyful,
Experimental,
And strong?
You see,
The secret is that we want to feel these feelings of success and prosperity.
And the only way we can do that is by moving into action.
The feeling comes about as a result of our actions.
So let's take some time to break this down further by making lists of specific actions that build on the qualities we want to feel.
So write down the three qualities you admire most and want to feel most.
They could be the same ones as the ones that you just worked on.
They could be three new ones.
Write these down in column form across your page.
Good.
And what we'll do is we'll brainstorm one action that we can take to feel each of these qualities in different areas of our life.
So if you want to feel these qualities in your career,
Then what's one action that you could do in each?
Write that down now.
Good.
And now think about your body and health and wellness.
If you want to feel these qualities in these areas of your life,
What is one action that you could do to feel that way?
Good.
Now think about your creativity.
What's one action you could do that would make you feel these qualities in your creativity?
Good.
Very good.
And now think about your relationships.
What's one action you could take in each of these three qualities that would allow you to feel this?
Great.
Wonderful.
And the final area that we will brainstorm actions that we can take is in our spirituality.
What one action could you do to feel each of these three qualities?
Good.
So now you have a list of actions that you can take.
And what I want you to do is to,
As the month goes on,
To do little micro actions each day ask yourself,
If I want to feel X,
Then what can I do right now in order to feel this?
Sometimes we want the feeling to come without the action,
But it just doesn't work that way.
The action is what creates the feeling for us.
Let's demonstrate this to ourselves right now.
Maybe you want to feel calm or balanced in your life.
And you think to yourself,
Well,
I could do three minutes of box breathing in order to get there.
And at first there's a bit of skepticism.
Maybe you think it won't work.
But what we'll do is to do three minutes of box breathing now so that you can demonstrate to yourself that the qualities of calm and balance will result.
So go ahead and settle back into a nice,
Comfortable position.
And follow my instructions.
And then we'll continue on our own.
